Aeropuerto de Quito con Categoría II

AW | 2017 12 04 16:01 | AIRPORTS

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Quito Airport with Category II

Quito Airport reached Category II in instrumental landing system

The «Mariscal Sucre« International Airport in Quito, Ecuador has reached Category II in the Instrument Landing System (ILS) to operate in adverse weather conditions.

This system has 3 operation categories. The ILS is the approach and landing aid system established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which allows aircraft to be guided accurately during their approach to the runway and, in some cases, at length of it. Category II approaches allow aircraft to land with a decision height of 110 feet and a visibility of only 350 meters.

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC), in coordination with Corporación Quiport, has implemented aids for air navigation since 2013 with the aim of increasing the operational availability of the Quito airport when there is fog. Equipment and systems such as the ILS, track visual range (RVR) and track center lighting were installed, he explained.

«Going up from Category I to II allows greater availability of operations of the air terminal in adverse weather conditions and be at the height of large airports worldwide» said the Director of the DGAC, Luis Carrera.

The President of Quiport, Andrew O’Brian, said that Category II is one of the main objectives of the management of Quiport, thus becoming the first airport in the country to obtain this certification. A \ W

Mejoras seguridad aerolíneas africanas

IWAF-760x507.png

AW | 2017 12 04 15:10 | AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

African airline security improvements

Aviation in Africa has significantly improved confirmed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA)

The World Aviation Forum of the International Civil Aviation Organization (IWAF) held in Abuja, Republic of Nigeria when the president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina alleged that airlines in Africa do not maintain their aircraft and that explains why what a high accident rate on the continent.

«Africa also needs safe skies, Africa is the riskiest sky to fly in. While Africa represents only 3.4% of all flight departures, it accounts for more than nine percent of all air accidents and 37% of total air travel. global air deaths 200 airlines included in the blacklist of the EU, more than 50`5 are African! These are shocking and unacceptable figures. The reasons are several: old aircraft, poorly maintained and inefficient, poor security standards, systems weak navigation, traffic management and, in general, weak inspection and supervision and non-compliance with security audits, these must change! Air travel must be safe, and security must never be compromised», said Akinwumi Adesina.

President and CEO of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, in reaction to the statement accredited to the president of AfDB, said Nigerian airlines are overly regulated by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and insisted they could compete with any airline of the world. He explained that such comments affected the insurance premiums paid by African airlines, which said they were having negative impacts on their actions and financial resources.

IATA in a recent statement described the continent’s airlines as very high in terms of safety and maintenance of their fleet. According to the agency, African airlines had improved significantly in safety, which explains why there was no commercial air accident between carriers in the last two years.

IATA Vice President, African Region, Raphael Kuuchi, told earlier this year that there has been a progressive report on aviation security in Africa. «The good news is that throughout the conference (IATA), probably for the first time in many, many years has not heard mention of Africa in relation to air accidents, which shows that many things are happening positively in Africa. start, the traffic continues to grow and the 20-year IATA forecast indicates that Africa will be the fastest growing region in the next 20-35 years and a growth of 5.1% year-on-year.In addition to that, I am sure that Everyone reads the IATA press release about our safety record in Africa, which is unprecedented with zero losses last year».

Kuuchi said that Africa also received a number of African airlines that are now joining the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). «I will take the message to African governments that we have seen improvements in security since the objectives of the Abuja Declaration (which mandated IATA Security Audit for African airlines) were announced in 2012 to the extent that now we record zero losses, I do not want to see the airlines that are in the IOSA registry leave that record, and then the government should help us».

Kuuchi said that one of the provisions of the Abuja Declaration was that states should make the Abuja Declaration an integral part of the renewal of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) for airlines. «We have not seen that in many countries, so we want the African government to make sure that when it renews AOCs from airlines, it makes sure they have IOSA and that IOSA is valid, now if we do, then we’re going to do it. Make sure that once you are in the IOSA registry you must continue, otherwise you will not get your next IOSA registration», he said.

Both ICAO and IATA have agreed that airline safety has improved significantly in Africa; It is the responsibility of the regulatory authorities and the airline to maintain and improve the safety standard. A \ W

Vuelo Cathay Pacific toma contacto con misil norcoreano

AW | 2017 12 04 13:58 | AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Flight Cathay Pacific makes contact with North Korean missile

The crew of a CX893 flight from Cathay Pacific from San Francisco to Hong Kong observed North Korean missile vicinity

Cathay Pacific Airways has reported to industry governing bodies and other airlines about what was seen on Cathay Pacific’s CX893 flight. «Although the flight was far from the location of the event, the crew informed Japan’s ATC (air traffic control) according to the procedures, the operation remained normal and was not affected», the statement said.

It is not the first time that this year a North Korean missile has had a close visit with a passenger plane. On July 28, an Air France flight passed just east of the launch site of a missile test. At the time of the fall, the flight was about 60 to 70 miles (95 to 112 kilometers) north of where the missile hit, according to a review of the data.

At the time, the spokesman for the US Department of Defense, Jeff Davis, warned that the intercontinental ballistic missile that North Korea tried in July «flew by the busy airspace used by commercial aircraft.»

The guidelines issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a United Nations agency charged with governing air safety and other matters, establish that nations have the «responsibility to issue risk warnings with respect to any threat to the safety of aircraft. civil aircraft operating in its airspace».

Aviation and airspace in conflict
Commercial aviation remembers two emblematic cases about conflicts in the airspace and the safety of the airlines.

The case of Malaysia Airlines MH-017 recalls that global aviation still has a lot to review about airspace safety standards. The Malaysia Airlines flight of July 17, 2014 (MH17 / MAS17) and code-share with the airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL4103 / KLM4103) was a regular international passenger flight operated by a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. Departed from Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport (Netherlands) at 12:14 (CEST) to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Malaysia) with 283 passengers and 15 crew members. It crashed in the town of Grábovo, in the Ukrainian coalition of Shakhtarsk, in the Donetsk Oblast, 40 kilometers from the Russian border. Currently this area is in civil war.

Flight KAL007 Korean Air that departed on August 31, 1983, also known as KAL007 or KE007, was a Boeing 747-200 passenger plane of the South Korean airline, Korean Air, shot down by Soviet interceptor jets, the September 1 when flying over restricted Soviet territory. It is one of the most serious incidents that occurred in the so-called Cold War.

KAL 007 was shot just west of the island of Sakhalin, more precisely on Moneron Island. The KAL 007 brought 269 passengers and crew, including the US Congressman for Georgia Larry McDonald and complaints persist that the Soviets captured some survivors. To this day, the precise facts of the flight are unknown, due to the numerous international military and intelligence aspects that intersect.

The Soviet Union initially claimed to be unaware that the aircraft was civilian and suggested that it had entered Soviet airspace as a deliberate action to test its response capabilities and to perform espionage duties given that other US military aircraft, were in the area to collect intelligence data related to a Soviet missile launch in the same place and at the same time. The demolition attracted a wave of protests around the world, particularly from the United States, which found a good opportunity to deepen its anti-Communist stances in the context of the Cold War.

The missile tests of North Korea
South Korea said its northern neighbor does not usually issue notices to aviators (NOTAM) when they launch missile launches. These notices are issued to warn pilots and airlines of potential risks during their flights. If a ballistic missile were to approach a passenger plane, it would be almost impossible for the crew to detect it and avoid circumvention. A \ W

«The return of Teddy»

Little Summer forgot her toy at the airport in Edinburgh, from where she left with her mother to Orkney (Scotland), her hometown

Donna, the girl’s mother, told that neither of them noticed that ‘Teddy’, as the bear is called, had been left behind. It was only until they sat down on the plane that they noticed his absence, so the woman began to feel distressed: she said, the teddy is with her daughter since she was born, so he is very loved by the child.

He added that he told the crew what happened, but everything was ready to take off, so they did not have time to go and look for him. As soon as they landed, Donna began to call desperately «everywhere» to communicate with someone who could help her.

As he got no response from anyone, he decided to make a publication on Facebook asking for help to locate the bear. She indicated to the media that this ‘post’ came to Kirsty Walter, member of the cabin crew of the Scottish airline Loganair.

Kay Ryan, the firm’s commercial director, told that a search was immediately made at the airport to find the toy. Once they found it, they put it on the first flight they had scheduled for Orkney. Kirsty was hanging all the time from ‘Teddy’, as shown by some photos that Loganair posted on Twitter. A \ W

Washington prioriza fabricación B-797

AW | 2017 12 02 21:25 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Washington State prioritizes Boeing 797 construction

Boeing-Company-LogoThe State of Washington would give top priority to persuade Boeing to build next Middle-market aircraft

The State of Washington and the aerospace industry are anxiously awaiting Boeing’s decision to build a new mid-market aircraft in the Puget Sound region that some have called the Boeing 797.

Projections for the construction of the new mid-market Boeing aircraft to fill the gap between the Boeing 757 and the Boeing 787 could enter service around 2024 and provide thousands of jobs. Despite the reduction of jobs and the dispersion of work to other states in recent years, Boeing continues to anchor an aerospace group that employs 130,000 in 1,400 facilities throughout the state.

The people of Washington are deeply interested in supporting Boeing and its new generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. The tax preferences that were extended until 2040 helped secure Everett’s production of the next facility and Boeing’s 777X to build its composite carbon fiber wing.

The Boeing 797 Middle-market

The details of the mid-market aircraft are not definitive, but would incorporate advances of the 777X and 787 in composite materials and control systems. The size would be between 737 and 787. The innovations with the 797 are likely to include new advances in manufacturing technology and support services that Boeing provides to buyers.Much of that involves complex software systems, which gives Boeing’s birthplace an advantage. All major technology companies have a presence in Seattle to take advantage of the great experience in building systems and services on a large scale.

State and local officials should be proactive, not reactive, and anticipate what is needed to retain and grow key employers. This was the lesson of Amazon’s abrupt decision to build a second location elsewhere. A consortium of the aerospace industry is working with state officials to land the plane. They are forming a coalition early next year to make a launch to Boeing. It will include work, industry and government.

This must be accelerated and elevated, with the high-profile support of the Governor of the State of Washington, Jay Inslee, and other leaders. Jay Inslee has recently met with the Boeing leadership and the State Department of Commerce to plan the Boeing 797 early in 2018.

The preparation behind the scenes is good, but the sense of urgency is not clear to the community in general. Still, there is no time to lose. The short legislative session of 2018 is only five weeks away, leaving little time to act on any request from a coalition that has not yet been formed.

One opportunity may be to provide a new training for the workforce. The potential work of 797 must be taken into account in efforts to promote internships, technical schools, and community colleges. The state previously invested in training for careers in composite materials. More can be done to prepare students for opportunities in advanced manufacturing, including robotics.

Boeing’s decision on where to design and build the first new aircraft developed during its second century has important implications for Washington’s future as a leading manufacturer and exporter. Reminding Boeing that this remains the most intelligent and lucrative place to build next-generation products and services should be a priority for Washington’s leadership. A \ W

The works in El Palomar advance

The low cost will use the new airport for cheap flights

The objective of the Ministry of Transportation of the Nation is to begin as quickly as possible with the operations with the first low cost airline Flybondi in the month of January 2018 from El Palomar Airport.

They extend the platform and upgrade hangars for the low-cost airlines Flybondi and Norwegian Air Argentina to operate. The works are taking course and began to recondition hangars, expand the platform and in principle use part of the facilities that were used in 2010 when it took some Aeroparque flights, which had closed for remodeling works. To access the new civil airport you can use the San Martin train and the highway.

From Flybondi they will start selling tickets in a few weeks and for the last few hours they have their first plane in the country, a Boeing 737-800. It will start with its flights from Córdoba, but it expects to take off from El Palomar for the last week of January 2018.

The works in El Palomar

Official confirmation came last week when Transportation Minister Guillermo Dietrich announced it at the annual conference of the Latin American and Caribbean Airlines (ALTA). But before, the Air Force received an order to deactivate eight hangars, the Official Casino and even the pool area and the barbecue areas. All these facilities are located within the El Palomar Airport, near the San Martín railroad tracks, where They condition the place for the future passengers. There already overturned 252 cubic meters of concrete, equivalent to 350 square meters of platform.

Planning stages in El Palomar

There are three stages for the reconditioning of El Palomar’s airport. «There are three parts of work in El Palomar. In January there will be the temporary terminal, which will work more or less until June. It will have a capacity of up to three simultaneous flights, with three departures at the same time. We will have a check-in space with five counters and a room for 300 people sitting, «said Julián Cook, CEO of Flybondi.

The second phase, starting in July 2018, will be in the area of hangars, which will transform the terminal and through which it will be able to pass up to one million passengers per year.

A third stage will be the construction of a new terminal in front of the current runway, which will be used in 2018 and then left for the military. They give as an example the airport of Mendoza, where the track separates the military building from the commercial one. Unlike Aeroparque and Ezeiza, El Palomar, which would be identified with the letters EPA, will not have sleeves, which will mean savings for the airlines. «As soon as it is open we will fly from Córdoba to El Palomar, and with the second plane from El Palomar to other destinations. Meanwhile, from Córdoba we will go to Mendoza, Bariloche, Iguazú, and also from Mendoza to Bariloche and Iguazú, which today do not exist», clarifies Cook.

The operation of the place will be in charge of the company Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, also concessionaire of Ezeiza and Aeroparque. This week they renewed the contracts until 2028.

Your company already has 140 employees. The first plane departed Tuesday from Alaska to Los Angeles, and stopped in Costa Rica to get to Córdoba. They assure that at the beginning of January 2018 the second ship will arrive, and between the end of January and the beginning of February, two more will arrive. A \ W
