Fiji Airways launches Vancouver route
Maiden flight Nadi—Vancouver
Fiji Airways has started regular service on 25/11 to connect Fiji’s Nadi/NAN International Airport with Vancouver International Airport/YVR. Vancouver, a Western Canada hub for international and domestic destinations. The western Canadian city is home to a significant Fijian diaspora in Canada, estimated at around 80,000 people, as well as the opportunity to be a feeder airline to Australia and New Zealand.
Fiji Airways Director General and CEO Andre Viljoen believes the new route will provide many opportunities for Fijians and Canadians. The airline’s first scheduled flight FJ881 on the route has developed an 88% load factor. Canada currently ranks fifth in monthly arrivals to the Pacific island of Fiji. Andre Viljoen noted: «We are creating a path for an entirely new segment, which has seen very little traction over the years. The flights will also provide a critical agricultural connection between British Columbia and Fiji’s important agricultural industries». Fijian farmers have committed to export on the new air route. Andre Viljoen predicted that Fiji Airways’ new route will export 15 tons of produce on flights to Vancouver and import 10 tons of fruit, vegetables and seafood to Nadi, the capital of the Fiji Islands. «This provides everyday Fijians and our hospitality industry with consistent and prompt access to a broader range of world-class products from Canada, addressing many of the supply issues hotels and resorts have had to deal with», he says. the CEO of Fiji Airways.
Canada’s High Commissioner for the region has said Canadians are excited about the new connection.
Fiji Airways will normally use the airline’s three Airbus A330-200s to fly the trans-Pacific route to Canada. The Airbus A330s have capacity for a total of 273 passengers in a two-class configuration: 24 in business class and 249 in economy class.

Vancouver International Airport welcomes Fiji Airways’ inaugural flight from Nadi, marking the airline’s first Canadian destination. «We are delighted to welcome Fiji Airways to YVR and are proud to make Vancouver the airline’s first Canadian destination in its growing network. The new non-stop service to Fiji is an important connection between our two regions, directly benefiting our community and the economy that supports it», said Mike McNaney, Vice-president and Director of external affairs for the Vancouver Airport Authority.
Fiji Airways’ new year-round service will generate approximately US$7.5 million in combined Gross Domestic Product, US$12.2 million in tourism and an additional 86 jobs in Vancouver/YVR, in British Columbia hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions.
Fiji Airways CEO and CEO Andre Viljoen is encouraging Canadians to take advantage of these twice-weekly flights to enjoy world-renowned Fijian hospitality. «Our five-star airline and multi-award-winning inflight experience, including food, amenities and staff service, offer the best value for money. With Canada well into winter and travelers eagerly seeking a warm tropical paradise «The timing of our new route couldn’t be better. There’s no other choice but Fiji. You don’t have to take my word for it, you’ll be convinced the moment you step on board», said the CEO of Fiji Airways.
An Airbus 330-200 aircraft will operate the route, with capacity for 273 passengers. The airline’s extra-wide-body Airbus also provides more cargo capacity, allowing for increased trade between Fiji and Canada, as well as other Pacific island nations seeking new business opportunities.

San Francisco convierte mejor aeropuerto Estados Unidos
SFO Best Airport USA
San Francisco becomes America’s best airport
San Francisco Airport/SFO finished ranked as the best airport in the United States. Statistics on the nation’s fifty largest airports found San Francisco International and Sacramento International ranked No. 1 in their respective categories, according to the results of the annual J.D. Power on passenger satisfaction among other details. San Francisco/SFO ranked first among the twenty busiest airports in the United States in terms of passenger numbers, and Sacramento/SMF ranked first among thirty medium-sized facilities. Data on 19 factors were examined in their rankings, ranging from airline on-time performance to average ticket prices, security line wait time, costs at airport concessions.
Among the twenty busiest airports, Atlanta/ATL ranked second, followed by Minneapolis-St. Paul/MSP, Detroit/DTW, Phoenix/PHX and Los Angeles/LAX. At the bottom of the standings were Newark Liberty/EWR and New York/JFK. In addition to Sacramento/SMF, other California airports performed well in the midsize airport rankings, with San Diego/SAN second, Mineta San José/SJC third, Orange County/SNA ninth, and Oakland/OAK in tenth place. The medium-sized airports with the worst scores were San Juan/SJU, Puerto Rico; LaGuardia/LGA of New York; and Washington-Reagan National/DCA.
Regional airports
Major major airlines dropping service to several smaller cities has been a matter of debate because their regional partner airlines did not have enough pilots to maintain their schedules. Now the Regional Airline Association (RAA) has issued a stark warning that travelers flying into smaller airports in the United States may have to find new ways to get there in the future. That organization, whose member regional airlines provide 43% of the nation’s scheduled passenger flights, took a look at the big picture and learned that «the ongoing severe pilot shortage has led to a decline or loss of air service at 76% of airports in the US. We are on the precipice of a total collapse of the small community air service. It has already begun, with 60 US airports losing more than half their air service since 2019. All policymakers in the Administration and Congress must put politics aside and address this crisis today», RAA CEO Faye said. Malarkey Black.
The RAA said its member airlines have taken more than 500 planes out of service because they don’t have enough pilots to fly them, and as a result, airline service has been reduced to 324 cities and towns across the country, including 14 airports that have lost all scheduled commercial air service, a number that continues to rise. She noted that this is just the culmination of a decade-long pilot shortage that the regional carrier industry has faced. Since 2009, the RAA has stated that the number of US airports with scheduled air service has decreased by 5%, and those that maintained service have fewer flights to fewer destinations. «These trends are accelerating; between 2019 and 2022, 161 US airports lost more than one in four of their commercial flights. Industry and government should work together on efforts like improving student loans for pilot training and urged the Federal Aviation Administration to make data-driven decisions on additional and advanced training pathways permitted under current law», the RAA said.
In California air route news, Alaska Airlines is due to drop Los Angeles-Salt Lake City service on 11/30; on the same date, it is scheduled to introduce daily flights between Paine Field in Everett, Washington, and Anchorage, Alaska. Minnesota-based budget carrier Sun Country Airlines had hoped to revive its San Francisco-Honolulu and LAX-Honolulu flights next summer, but those plans have now been abandoned due to rising fuel costs. Those routes were suspended last April. At the same time, Sun Country plans to begin service on thirteen domestic routes this spring, all from its base in Minneapolis-St. Paul. The destinations are Charlotte, North Carolina; New York/JFK; Atlantic City, NJ; Columbus, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; Detroit; Richmond, Virginia; Omaha, Nebraska; Kansas City, Missouri; Wilmington, North Carolina; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Traverse City, Mich.; and Rapid City, South Dakota. Most routes will have two flights a week, with start dates from April to June 2023.

Actualmente, realizan servicio punto a punto aerolíneas clásicas como American Airlines, Air France-KLM, Air Canada, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Iberia Líneas Aéreas, United Airlines y Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Revolution transatlantic flights
Promotion of the Atlantic low-cost/narrowbodies market
Flights over the North Atlantic begin to take a new turn in the post-pandemic, driven by a new air in an evolving market. Several airlines have started a race to implement narrowbodies aircraft to match cost-to-coast points between the United States and Europe. The low cost airline market takes the lead, generating multiple opportunities for users at more convenient prices and at the best operating cost for airlines.
Transatlantic flight projects were beginning to take shape with single-aisle aircraft even before the pandemic after the decline of the supersonic steel star, the Concorde. Transatlantic aviation is witnessing a wave of new projects that will make it possible to provide new services in narrowbodies aircraft. Aeronautical engineering has made it possible for medium-sized planes to cross the skies of the North Atlantic without diminishing the quality of the service customary on these routes.
The development models of classic and low cost airlines have increased their participation in transatlantic routes. American Airlines has decided to pioneer the new era of supersonic flights together with Airbus and Boeing after the successful performance of the Concorde between 1976-2003 that managed to connect Paris with New York in three and a half hours at a speed of more than 2,000 kilometers. per hour. The American giant wants to resume that segment with the new Overture supersonic aircraft from the manufacturer Boom Supersonics.
The transatlantic route with the greatest demand is New York-London, as well as other destinations such as Paris, Orlando, Montreal, Amsterdam. Currently, classic airlines such as American Airlines, Air France-KLM, Air Canada, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Iberia Líneas Aéreas, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways provide point-to-point service.
But airlines have continued to develop new alternatives to transatlantic travel, adjusting the model of large aircraft for medium-sized ones, known as single-aisle and narrow-body planes or narrowbodies, where the favorite star has focused on the Airbus A321LR and A321XLR that They continue to turn heads to become the best seller in the commercial aviation industry. This model is also used by budget or low-cost airlines that have developed a surprising level of trust. Among the airlines are: JetBlue Airways, Norse Atlantic, FrenchBee Airlines, Play Airlines, Level Airlines, Eurowings, Global Airlines, La Compagnie, among others. The newest low-cost airline called FlyAtlantic promises to bring back cheap transatlantic flights. The British startup recently announced plans to go live in 2024.
The future of commercial aviation continues to unleash changes in transatlantic travel models with a flurry of new initiatives ranging from low cost to supersonic flights. Thus, the air revolution of flights over the North Atlantic is marked by the tendency to fly with single-aisle aircraft that will allow more frequencies with fewer seats, various low cost initiatives; but preserving the level of service of this important commercial air route, they will mean a profound transformation of the transatlantic aviation market.

China Southern Airlines podría unirse a Oneworld Alliance
China Southern would unite Oneworld
China Southern Airlines could join Oneworld Alliance
The airline alliance Oneworld Alliance is considering adding China Southern Airlines to its group, after leaving the SkyTeam alliance four years ago. This transfer movement has an explanation after the purchase of shares by Qatar Airways and American Airlines, two of the main airlines in the Oneworld alliance. Currently, both airlines have shares of around 5%. On the other hand, China Southern has a long association with British Airways, and is a codeshare partner of Finnair. British Airways and American Airlines, two leading members of the Oneworld alliance, have supported the idea of the possible addition of China Southern Airlines to the alliance.
At the moment, China Southern Airlines has not submitted an official application to join Oneworld, while Oneworld Alliance stated that it could not comment on possible members, negotiations and the details of the talks until a point is reached where it can be done. make a public announcement: “With international travel reeling from the pandemic, alliances have become even more important in offering global connectivity for airlines and their customers”.
China Southern Airlines is currently the largest airline in the People’s Republic of China. The airline has two main hubs: Beijing/PEK and Guangzhou/CAN, where its headquarters are located. Before the pandemic, China had one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. Following the effects of the pandemic crisis, China will continue to build new momentum to be competitive, and being an attractive Chinese airline to the Oneworld alliance could be essential for other airlines in the alliance.

Airbus aircraft deliveries challenges
European consortium faces same challenges as Boeing
Airbus Group reduced its delivery target earlier this year 2022 from 720 units to around 700 units per year. Past performance and current supply chain issues suggest extraordinary performance will be required for Airbus to meet the reduced target. Airbus meeting the target would indicate significant strength for the coming year 2023.
Airbus SE is delivering planes to customers at a higher rate than its competitor The Boeing Company. Boeing is on its way back, but expectations for its delivery volumes have been higher given the hundreds of planes it has prepared that require only minor completion work. It also faces challenges in stabilizing its production rate at 31 aircraft per month. While Airbus aims to ramp production up to 75 aircraft per month for its popular Airbus A320NEO family, the European planemaker faces significant challenges to deliver aircraft in line with its production rate. Additionally, Airbus is boosting supplier shipments from 2022 to 2023, suggesting that there is a mismatch between the reported production rate and the actual production rate.
That is where Airbus and Boeing face a challenge. Due to staff shortages, as well as pressure on material supplies, it is difficult to increase and maintain production rates. For quite some time, I have pointed out that the delivery target that Airbus is aiming for might not be realistic. With several weeks left in 2022, I revisit the topic to see how realistic it is to assume the delivery target will be met. The month of October 2022 showed a positive divergence from that trend, since the first month of 4Q2022 began with delivery numbers higher than those of the previous month.
A320NEO delays
Airbus has reported that it is modifying deliveries of A320NEO airliners, delaying deliveries of some aircraft to next year 2023, as it works to meet delivery targets for 2022 amid labor and supply chain difficulties.
The European planemaker faces uncertainties about the availability of engines for new planes. Its American rival Boeing has faced a similar shortage of engines as manufacturers face bottlenecks in supply chains.

Russian MC-21 plane appears in Rossiya Airlines livery
An Irkut MC-21 first appeared in the livery of its launch customer, Rossiya Airlines on the assembly lines of the Russian construction company. The aircraft was photographed at the Russian aircraft production site in Ulyanovsk. The MC-21 pictured, registration 73054, is the third prototype, fitted with Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines.
Rossiya Airlines, which is part of the Aeroflot group, expects to receive its first MC-21s by the end of 2022. However, after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine and the international sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation, the company changed its plans regarding the Irkut aircraft, as the MC-21-300 variant has approximately 40% of the components imported from the West and will not enter service. Instead, the airline is now awaiting the MC-21-310, which has more locally produced content, including turbofan engines, Aviadvigatel’s PD-14.
Unlike the MC-21-300, which has been certified by Russia’s aviation regulatory agency, the 310 variant is still at the beginning of the certification campaign. The aircraft’s entry into service is scheduled for mid-2024 or 2025.
Replacement of the A320 and 737
The economic sanctions imposed on Russia due to the invasion in Ukraine have severely affected the aerospace sector, which is prevented from buying or leasing aircraft and purchasing components from suppliers in the West. Such barriers sent Russian industry into a race to finish new aircraft projects underway in the country, including the MC-21, as soon as possible. Irkut’s plane competes in the same category as than the traditional Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, the world’s best-selling commercial jets.
The MC-21 development program has been ongoing since 2007 and the commercial launch of the aircraft has been postponed several times. The maiden flight, originally scheduled for 2014, took place only in 2017. After five years of practical tests, the future of the aircraft is still undefined.

Helvetic acquires 4 E190-E1
Helvetic Airways acquires four Embraer E190-E1
The Swiss airline Helvetic Airways has been one of Embraer’s most successful clients, operating an exclusive fleet of the Brazilian manufacturer’s aircraft. Helvetic Airways has an exclusivity on Embraer’s new E2 aircraft. It is the only operator that operates both the E190-E2 and the E195-E2, the two versions of the new generation. There are currently eight E190-E2s (8) and four E195-E2s (4), which were recently received after Helvetic changed their original order, opting for the variant for up to 146 passengers.
Due to the new planes, the Swiss airline decided to reduce its fleet of first generation E-Jets, but the high demand for flights caused Helvetic to make a surprising move. The four Embraer E190-E1s that still operate in its fleet through leasing were purchased from Airfleet Credit Corporation.
Helvetic does not operate its own flight network, but rather provides wet leasing services to other airlines such as Swiss Air Lines, providing the aircraft and crew to bolster its customers’ services. Helvetic’s financial results are so positive that they have motivated the company’s CEO, Tobias Pogorevc, to propose a CHF 500 bonus and a salary increase of 3.5% to 5% from 2023.
