Gobierno presupuesta para venta de Air Botswana

El Gobierno de Botswana está presupuestando la venta de la aerolínea nacional Air Botswana, según ha anunciado el Parlamento del país por parte del Ministerio de Transporte a cargo de Eric Molale. Mediante el Plan de Desarrollo Nacional de Transición (TNDP) para los años financieros 2023/24 y 2024/25, se encuentra presupuestando, lo que finalmente resultará en la venta de la aerolínea en problemas.

El Gobierno había ordenado que se buscara un socio estratégico para Air Botswana, mientras se busca la provatización de la aerolínea botsuanesa. El plan contempla la reestructuración par aalcanzar la excelencia operativa, la recuperación, el crecimiento y la sostenibilidad financiera. «Si bien el plan inmediato es que la aerolínea obtenga un socio estratégico, estos objetivos estratégicos aún están alineados con su agenda de privatización», expresó Eric Molale.

La aerolínea se encuentra técnicamente insolvente y el Gobierno ha estado estudiando medidas para ser más eficiente y competitiva, incluida la introducción de nuevas rutas regionales, el mantenimiento de las normas internacionales de seguridad y la mejora de su puntualidad (OTP). Ha estado buscando diversificar sus ingresos a través de un enfoque estratégico en aumentar sus ingresos de carga, aumentar su red de rutas nacionales y operar más vuelos chárter. «A medio y largo plazo, la aerolínea está trabajando en la reestructuración de sus operaciones para comercializar otras divisiones y, cuando sea posible, convertirlas en subsidiarias o entidades autónomas», expresó Eric Molale.

El Organismo de Evaluación y Privatización de las Empresas Públicas (PEEPA) de Botswana, órgano estatutario encargado de vender empresas de propiedad estatal, se ha dedicado a la búsqueda de posibles compradores/socios. Presentó recomendaciones sobre la revisión del modelo operativo de Air Botswana para su consideración por el Ministerio de Transporte y Comunicaciones en Agosto de 2020. En Mayo de 2022, el Presidente de Botsuana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, volvió a confirmar los planes del Gobierno de entrar en una asociación estratégica con el sector privado para revitalizar Air Botswana. El Gobierno prometió previamente que un marco legal para la privatización habría estado en vigor para Abril de 2022. Los intentos anteriores de Comair (Sudáfrica), Airlink (Sudáfrica) y Air Mauritius, liquidadas provisionalmente de comprar una participación en Air Botswana no dieron resultados.

The Botswana Government is budgeting the sale of the National Air Botswana airline, as announced by the country’s parliament by the Ministry of Transportation by Eric Molale. The airline is technically insolvent and the government has been studying measures to be more efficient and competitive, including the introduction of new regional routes, the maintenance of international security standards and the improvement of its punctuality (OTP). He has been looking to diversify his income through a strategic approach to increasing his load income, increasing his network of national routes and operating more charter flights. «In the medium and long term, the airline is working on the restructuring of its operations to market other divisions and, when possible, turn them into subsidiaries or autonomous entities», said Eric Molale.

The Evaluation and Privatization Agency of Public Companies (PEEPA) of Botswana, a statutory body responsible for selling state owned companies, has been dedicated to the search for possible buyers/partners. He presented recommendations on the review of the Air Botswana operating model for consideration by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in August 2020. In May 2022, the president of Botsuana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, again confirmed the government’s plans to enter a Strategic association with the private sector to revitalize Air Botswana. The Government previously promised that a legal framework for privatization would have been in force for April 2022. The previous attempts of Comair (South Africa), Airlink (South Africa) and Air Mauritius, provisionally liquidated to buy a participation in Air Botswana did not give results.
