Anuncia desde Raleigh-Durham tres destinos sin escalas

Avelo Airlines anunció el Miércoles 15/03 que comenzará a volar sin escalas desde Raleigh-Durham/RDU a Memphis (Tennessee), Rochester (Nueva York), Manchester (New Hampshire), en Junio 2023. Avelo se convierte en la única aerolínea en RDU para servir a las tres ciudades. Los vuelos se realizarán a cada destino con dos frecuencias semanales. Memphis y Rochester comienzan el 14/06, y el primer vuelo a Manchester es una semana después.

Para ayudar a servir los nuevos vuelos, Avelo Airlines dijo que basará un segundo Boeing 737 en RDU y contratará a 35 empleados locales más para apoyar a los dos aviones. Announces three non-stop destinations from Raleigh-Durham

Avelo Airlines announced on Wednesday 03/15 that it will begin non-stop flights from Raleigh-Durham/RDU to Memphis (Tennessee), Rochester (New York), Manchester (New Hampshire), in June 2023. Avelo becomes the only airline in RDU to serve all three cities. The flights will be made to each destination with two weekly frequencies. Memphis and Rochester start on 06/14, and the first flight to Manchester is a week later.

To help service the new flights, Avelo Airlines said it will base a second Boeing 737 at RDU and hire 35 more local employees to support the two planes. The airline currently has about fifty workers, including pilots, flight attendants, gate agents, and aircraft technicians. «We are very encouraged by the initial momentum that Avelo is experiencing here. We are just getting started and we look forward to inspiring even more travel among our RDU customers», Andrew Levy, CEO of the airlines, said in a statement.

Avelo arrived at RDU in 2Q2022 with nonstop flights to Tweed-New Haven Airport in Connecticut, where the airline was starting its second operating base in the Eastern United States. This winter, it began offering nonstop service between RDU and six Florida cities. The flights announced on Wednesday 03/15 bring to 10 the number of destinations that the airline serves from RDU.

To keep up with its growth and help alleviate overcrowding in RDU’s main terminal, Avelo moved into Terminal 1 last month, joining Southwest and Spirit. Avelo and another low-cost carrier, Breeze Airways, began flying in the spring of 2021 as the airline industry was struggling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Breeze made its first flights to three destinations from RDU last month and has announced plans to serve five more nonstop by the end of May. Avelo and Breeze join other discount airlines, such as Frontier, Spirit and Sun Country, which have helped expand nonstop options for travelers.

With Avelo’s announcement, the 14 airlines that do business in RDU now fly nonstop to 62 destinations, more than before the COVID-19 pandemic. The two airlines aim to provide flights to markets that are underserved by other airlines. That means they will often be the only airline with nonstop service to cities like Hartford, Providence, Rhode Island and Fort Myers, Sarasota and other smaller Florida airports. Sometimes that exclusivity can be difficult to maintain. When Breeze announced nonstop flights to Louisville last month, it had that route to itself. Now, American Airlines says it will also start flying between RDU and Louisville in May 2023.
