Surinam Airways recibe Airbus A340-300 para rutas transatlánticas
La compañía Surinam Airways (SLM) ha anunciado la incorporación de un avión Airbus 340-300 el Martes 14/03 al Aeropuerto Johan Adolf Pengel/JAP de Surinam, con el que la aerolínea mantendrá la ruta entre Surinam y Amsterdam. El arribo de la nueva aeronave permitirá dar un nuevo impulso a la aerolínea para restablecer con servicios transatlánticos la ruta entre Paramaribo y Amsterdam. Además, la incorporación de un Boeing 737 adicional se ha afectado al mercado regional.
La nueva incorporación fue recibida festivamente en Paramaribo el Lunes 13/03. La recepción de la aeronave marca un nuevo capítulo para la aerolínea surinamesa, que ha tenido un momento muy difícil y en los últimos años tuvo que arrendar aviones para el servicio regular a Amsterdam/Schiphol debido a la falta de su propio avión.
La aeronave cuatrimotor ha estado almacenada en Amman, Jordania. El A340-300 luce el esquema de color SLM Airlines. La librea muestra claramente que este Airbus de 14 años voló para Air Belgium como OO-ABD en el pasado. Puede transportar 257 pasajeros en el avión. Ha recibido el registro surinamés PZ-TCW.
El SLM espera poder utilizar este avión en la ruta Paramaribo-Zanderij/PBM—Amsterdam-Schiphol/AMS a partir de Mayo 2023. El Airbus reemplaza al ex A330-200 de KLM Airlines actualmente arrendado a Airhub y todavía lleva el esquema de color de KLM (9H-PAX, anteriormente PH-AOM).
Para Surinam Airways el A340 ciertamente no es un tipo de aeronave desconocida, pues en los últimos años, varias unidades han sido tomadas bajo arriendo incluida Air Belgium, y hasta 2019 SLM voló el A340-300. Ese avión fue reemplazado por un Boeing 777, pero no tuvo éxito. El A340 propulsado por cuatro motores no se encuentra limitados para las certificaciones ETOPS, permitiendo emplearlos para las rutas transatlánticas.
La compañía está construyendo cuidadosamente su propia flota bajo la modalidad drive-lease. Un segundo Boeing 737-800 también se pondrá en servicio en Mayo 2023.
La Civil Aviation Safety Authority Suriname (CASAS) y Surinam Airways ahora trabajarán en la finalización de la documentación y la certificación local, después de lo cual la aeronave puede recibir el registro habilitante de las autoridades de aviación. En los últimos años, Surinam Airways ha confiado en terceros servicios de vuelos transatlánticos para efectuar vuelos hacia los Países Bajos, con los consiguientes costos operativos y la eficacia de la regularidad de la ruta.
