AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Uruguay delays Azul Airlines permit

The Dinacia of Uruguay would endorse Azul Uruguay after March 2018

The Brazilian airline, Azul Linhas Aéreas, decided not to proceed with the process to operate as an airline in Uruguay, as a result of the excessive time it takes to obtain a certification from the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure (Dinacia).

Azul pretended to have permits for the summer season. The Civil Association of Airline Pilots in Uruguay (ACIPLA) released a statement after a meeting held with Azul at the Carrasco Airport, which reported on the announcement «by its authorities that the project was suspended until a new assessment». The company’s objective was to start operating as a Uruguayan airline in the short term, and among other destinations to fly the air bridge between Montevideo and Buenos Aires.

According to Acipla, the company informed in an «unofficial manner that said decision was due to the delays of Dinacia, as it was going to take the 6 months that the LAR (Uruguayan Aeronautical Regulations) grants to process the certification, since the The company needed to have the aircraft operating by the month of March at the latest». The timing was essential to make the investment in Uruguay since it was not an important market.

In the current development of the events, Azul Linhas Aéreas will seek to give priority to the Brazilian market that is having signs of recovery to concentrate more fully on the cabotage segment.

The Brazilian group also aims to cover the route Montevideo-Porto Alegre and Montevideo-San Pablo as flag carrier, as well as other destinations, including Córdoba in Argentina. Azul is the third most important airline in Brazil, has 11 thousand employees and reaches more than 80 destinations in the northern country. A \ W

Delta ordena 100 Airbus A321NEO

AW | 2017 12 01 15:50 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Delta orders 100 Airbus A321NEO

Delta Airlines specifies a large contract with Airbus for 100 A321NEO

Delta Air Lines ordered the European manufacturer Airbus Group a contract for 100 A321NEO for an amount of US$ 12.7 billion. In a statement, the airline also indicated that it took an option for another 1,000 supplementary aircraft.

Delta explained that these planes can transport up to 197 passengers and consume 12% less fuel compared to the A321CEO, which will allow them to renew their medium-distance fleet. The start of the delivery of the devices, equipped with Pratt and Whitney engines, whose delay in production cost numerous contracts to Airbus, is planned between 2020 and 2023.

«This is the right transaction at the right time for our customers, our employees and our shareholders», Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta, was quoted as saying in the statement.

Fight between giants
This contract not only increases Airbus’ market share in the single aisle segment, but also highlights the current tensions between Delta and Boeing. The order to Delta was announced in the middle of a public struggle between Delta and the US aeronautical giant Boeing for a commercial dispute involving another order of airplanes between the airline and the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier. Boeing argues that those planes are undervalued due to illegal subsidies from the Canadian government to Bombardier.

Bombardier announced in October an alliance in production with Airbus that delivers part of the Bombardier CSeries program. Delta has said it will not pay any tariff introduced by the US government in response to Boeing’s claims.

At the end of the line is a great defeat for the American Boeing, who founded strong hopes to renew a contract with one of the leading transporters of the world market, Delta Air Lines. A \ W

Quiebra de Fly Niki

maxresdefault.jpg

AW | 2017 12 14 13:27 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Bankruptcy of Fly Niki

The airline Niki ceases operations after Lufthansa gave up its acquisition

The Austrian airline Niki, has announced that as of this December 14 has ceased operations after the break of the company. Niki informs passengers that they have purchased tickets through a tour operator that they should contact for compensation. This airline connected Germany, Austria and Switzerland with the Canary Islands, apart from other tourist destinations in the Mediterranean and Portugal.

Lufthansa’s purchase agreement failed on Wednesday after resistance from the European Commission. The Austrian Transport Minister warned that up to 10,000 passengers could be affected, although several airlines have offered to take stranded travelers home for a small fee.

The company was founded in 2003 by the aeronautical entrepreneur and former world champion of Formula 1 Niki Lauda and was owned by Air Berlin, which declared itself insolvent in mid-August, announced on Wednesday that after the decision of the German group Lufthansa not to acquire it, will stop flying starting this Thursday. Precisely, according to the Austrian news agency APA, Lauda himself is considering returning to take over the airline.

The airline said in a statement on its website that there are several companies that are studying how to cooperate to repatriate all passengers that will be affected by the cessation of NIKI activities. In exchange for a small fee, passengers traveling to Germany, Austria and Switzerland can travel on flights of airlines from those countries, the statement said, which only specifies that Germany’s TUIfly does not participate in this solution.

The Austrian company itself has requested in a court in Berlin to open an insolvency proceeding. Lufthansa wanted to take over NIKI and its thousand employees but announced that it renounces buying the airline in order to acquire other business areas of Air Berlin.

According to a statement, Lufthansa offered wide concessions in the first phase of the acquisition assessment by relinquishing rights to takeoffs and landings («slots»), but «the EC considers that these concessions are insufficient and has clearly indicated that it is not going to approve the acquisition of NIKI and its integration in Eurowings, «added Lufthansa.

Lufthansa, which wants to acquire the regional flight airline Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (LGW), has made more concessions and waives the purchase of NIKI. Lufthansa has informed Air Berlin and its administrator that it wants to close the transaction excluding the acquisition of NIKI and that to take over LGW it renounces numerous slots. A \ W

Avances pruevas E-190 E2

AW | 2017 12 13 18:31 |INDUSTRY

Embraer has successfully performed the minimum takeoff speed (Vmu) test of the aircraft made at the Gavião Peixoto (SP) facility on the E190-E2. The tests are related to low speed take-off capacity. The aircraft reaches its maximum safe attack angle before taking flight. The tail (rear cone of the plane) comes into contact with the runway by measuring the air velocity when it is released to determine the minimum speed range and take-off angle of the new Embraer E-190 E2.

Embraer explains that the Vmu helps determine the critical take-off speeds and the minimum distance necessary for the aircraft to take off. The test aircraft demonstrated exceptional handling characteristics of the AOA’s (angles of attack) and is extremely controllable, even at low speeds,» the Brazilian manufacturer advises, to avoid a «tailstrike» (impact on the tail) and damage to the fuselage structure. , the test E190-E2 took off equipped with a safety device that touches the runway. When the aircraft reaches the maximum angle of attack during the time of the takeoff procedure at minimum speed allows to determine the angle and takeoff speeds approved by the maker.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Flybondi will start ops in Misiones

Flybondi-logo.pngFlybondi will begin operations in the Province of Misiones in January 2018

Flybondi Líneas Aéreas will start operations in Posadas and Iguazú, Argentina in 2018. As confirmed by the Minister of Tourism of the Province of Misiones, José María Arrúa, the Flybondi company will make its first promotional flight to Posadas on Friday, December 22, 2017.

After this initial presentation, the Argentine company will start operating regularly in 2018 and will have three frequencies that will join the «red earth» with the rest of the country. The programming of the flights will begin in January 2018 with the frequency Córdoba-Iguazú with a frequency of two weekly, as Mendoza-Iguazú. In February 2018 the frequency that will link El Palomar-Posadas will be added.

Expanding market
The low cost air will be added to the frequency to Iguazú that inaugurated the Andes  Líneas Aéreas company in 3Q2016 and to the Aerolíneas Argentinas flights that present a tempting rate. The role of the buses will focus on the realization of shorter sections with more accessible prices. In Brazil it has not happened that bus transport companies have disappeared due to the fact that low cost airlines have been there for a long time. In a market with dynamic and clear rules this should not happen.

Flybondi Líneas Aéreas, which together with Norwegian will begin to operate from 2018 in our country, will have frequencies to both the missionary capital and Puerto Iguazú. Norwegian, on the other hand, will also be destined to the Province of Misiones. The company, one of the largest in the world of the low cost market, requested five routes to Misiones; among those that are Buenos Aires-Posadas, Buenos Aires-Iguazú, Córdoba-Iguazú and Rosario-Iguazú.
