Nuevas evidencias atentado vuelo 901

AW | 2017 12 13 17:07 | AIR INVESTIGATION / AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

New evidence bombing flight 901 in Panama

They reveal the suicide identity of Hezbollah’s plans to expand from Latin America to the US

Flight 901 of Alas Chiricanas was an Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante, with registration HP-1202AC, aircraft destroyed by a suicide bomber shortly after taking off from Enrique Adolfo Jiménez Airport, near Colón, in Panama, on the night of July 19, 1994. 21 people died, including 12 Jewish businessmen It is considered the worst terrorist act registered in Panama.

The FBI discovered the true identity of the suicide bomber who blew up the ship and killed 21 passengers in 1994, just after the AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires. The terrorist Ali Hawa Jamal was the one who blew himself up inside the Chiricanas wing plane after takeoff. The evidence leaves new clues about the group’s influence in the region. US officials are taking action against the terrorist group Hezbollah by tackling new leads from previous investigations in Latin America. The administration is moving forward on what the intelligence community calls Iran’s «threat network» as part of a campaign targeting Hezbollah’s activities in Latin America. The new revelations about a 1994 case related to Hezbollah underscore the importance of following the group’s footprint in the region according to the State Department.

The downing of flight 901 of the airline Alas Chiricanas occurred a day after a Muslim fundamentalist group exploded the building of the Israelite headquarters of the AMIA in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On July 19, 1994, a day after Hezbollah operatives blew up the Jewish community center of AMIA in the City of Buenos Aires, the group sent a suicide bomber on a flight from Chiricanas Airlines. A Panamanian commercial plane carrying several Jewish and American passengers exploded in flight, all its occupants died. The case languished for years, but the FBI has recently released new information that, along with evidence obtained from other ongoing investigations, is highly likely to serve as the basis for a variety of actions targeting Hezbollah.

Hezbollah’s recent behavior in Latin America is also a matter of interest for US researchers. In October, a joint investigation by the FBI and the New York Police led to the arrest of two individuals who declared that they belonged to the Islamic Jihad (Hezbollah’s external terrorist wing), and acted under the organization’s orders at the time of being detained with intelligence. in Panama on the US and Israeli embassies and evaluating the vulnerabilities of the Panama Canal and the ships that pass through it. According to a press release from the US Department of Justice. Another subject who was responsible for monitoring objectives such as military and police installations in New York City was also arrested.

Following these arrests, the director of the National Counter-Terrorism Center warned that the US assessment of Hezbollah is based on the organization’s clear decision to increase its operational potential in Latin America and the US, and indicated that this is something that the anti-terrorist community takes it very seriously. These cases, the official added, are probably the tip of a large regional iceberg. A \ W

AW | 2017 12 13 16:20 | AIRLINES / AIRPORTS

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Norwegian announced the purchase of the slots on December 13, 2017. Planning is already under way to decide how the slotse will be used in 2018.

«London Gatwick is at the heart of our ambitions for global growth, so securing these crucial new slots will allow us to offer our passengers even new routes, additional flights and affordable fares, along with the launch of new routes to Argentina, Chicago and Austin. Consolidación vuelos a Cuba

AW | 2017 12 13 16:06 | AIRLINES ROUTES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Consolidation flights to Cuba

Resultado de imagen para Cuba pngThe airlines of the USA, American Airlines and JetBlue, requested last December 8 to Washington more frequencies to fly to Cuba

The Department of Transportation of the United States (DOT) has received the order of airlines for the increase of frequencies to Cuba.

The consolidation of services on the route to Cuba is due to the resignation of several airlines to fly to the Caribbean island, in favor of the most dynamic or those that are in a better position in the Caribbean market.

Request for more frequencies
Resultado de imagen para Cuba pngJetBlue Airways indicates in its request that it wants to assume more frequencies due to the cancellation and the end of the service between the US and Cuba of Alaska Airlines on January 22, 2018. This airline requests Washington seven new frequencies of flights between Tampa and Havana that they would be distributed on a daily flight. JetBlue is still waiting for the DOT response on 21 frequencies that it requested last September for reassigning flights of other airlines that stopped flying to the Island. If approved, JetBlue would begin daily flights from Tampa to Havana on June 14, 2018 with an Airbus A320-200 of 162 seats.

Delta Air Lines reported that they are waiting for the corresponding permits from the US authorities to raise the daily frequency of flights between Miami and Havana to two.

American Airlines has requested seven additional flights in addition to the ten weekly flights it had requested in September. The new flights requested by American Airlines are to cover the Miami-Havana route daily.

Airlines that leave Cuba
The decrease in demand and exaggerated expectations have led several US airlines to finalize or reduce their service to Cuba.

Alaska Airlines and Sun Country Airlines requested in the past days to relinquish their weekly flights to the Island.

Frontier Airlines, based in Denver, announced in March the cancellation of its daily flights between Miami and Havana as of June 4.

In April, the CEO of Spirit Airlines said they would stop flying to the island and that his company «would continue to monitor the Cuban market and if circumstances improve in the future, we would consider resuming service».

Silver Airways, a regional airline, also stopped flying to Cuba due to low demand.

All these companies cite a lower than expected demand as the main reason. Until last October some 544,171 Americans, 336,556 more than in the same period of 2016, arrived in Cuba under the 12 categories of travel authorized by the American DOT. A \ W

United Airlines volará a Tahití

AW-7000888666

AW | 2017 12 13 15:37 | AIRLINES ROUTES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

United Airlines will fly to Tahiti

United Airlines will be the first US operator since Pan Am flew the Mainland-Tahiti route

United Airlines will use the new route San Francisco—Papeete (Tahiti) with Boeing 787-8 with capacity for 219 passengers in three classes on the flight, which will operate three times a week between October 30, 2018 and March 28, 2019.

From the continental United States the only service is from Los Angeles that flies to the island of Tahiti through Air France and Air Tahiti. Hawaiian Airlines flies Honolulu-Papeete. The Fa’a’ā International Airport of Papeete served only 1.2 million passengers in 2016.

United will begin flying to the iconic South Pacific island from October 30, 2018. The airline will offer three flights per week between its operations center in San Francisco to Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia that includes Tahiti. United Airlines will use to cover the route with Boeing 787-8 aircraft with 219 pax, which will take about 8 hours of flight.

Patrick Quayle, vice president of United’s international network, said that for many travelers, including those in London, Frankfurt and Tel Aviv, the new flight will provide the best way to get to Tahiti in the world. «We will allow connectivity through downtown San Francisco, and then passengers from Western Europe and Tel Aviv will have a one-stop shop», he said. In downtown San Francisco, United offers around 250 daily departures to 90 destinations.

While the three US global operators are generally eager to focus on the advantages they offer to business travelers, Quayle spoke on Tuesday about United’s strength as a leisure company.

Expanding routes
The flights from Tahiti continue what has been a torrid international expansion for United during the past year. The carrier has added new destinations abroad, including Reykjavik, Iceland and Porto (Portugal).

United Airlines has launched the 18-hour Los Angeles—Singapore route, which has become the longest route ever flown by a US operator. Other international highlights for United in 2017 include Houston—Sydney; San Francisco—Zurich and Newark—Buenos Aires, resumed service discontinued in 2013.

«Tahiti is our 13th new international route this year. We have added a ton of new exotic and exciting destinations for our passengers, everything from Iceland to Porto, Houston to Sydney, LAX to Singapore and now to Tahiti», said Patrick Quayle, VP of the international network United Airlines.

However, United will probably have competition from San Francisco. It is expected to come from French Blue, a one-year, low-cost, long-distance French airline that plans to add service between Paris and Tahiti with a stop in San Francisco. Although United’s announcement about Tahiti comes a month after French Blue’s, Patrick Quayle said the timing is a coincidence.

A frequency of up to three weekly flights is expected. Tickets for the new San Francisco-Tahiti route are not yet for sale, while French Blue is awaiting regulatory authorization. A\W

AW | 2017 12 12 20:05 | AIRPORTS / AIR TRAFFIC

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Schiphol Airport paralyzed by temporary snow

The Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport paralyzed by the snow storm

A snow storm has caused the interruption of air traffic at the Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam this Monday, December 11. Some 430 flights, equivalent to a third of the operations of this airport have been canceled leaving thousands of passengers on the ground. The largest company affected was KLM with about 300 canceled.

The snow has affected several areas of western Europe, causing delays in roads and transportation. As a result of severe disruptions caused by extreme winter weather, KLM has canceled 25 intercontinental flights and 105 European flights in Schiphol. Several other airlines also have to cancel part of their operation.

Due to the large number of flights canceled in recent days, the response time of the KLM service centers is longer than usual. Also the baggage handling at Schiphol can sometimes leave something to be desired. Travelers should again take into account the long delays on Tuesday.

«All the aviation needs to catch up today to get everyone out, this makes it extra at Schiphol at the check-in and transfer counters, we’re ready, all the jobs are clean and can be used, we’re confident we’ll be operational again at the beginning of the afternoon», says the airport. Most roads are easily accessible, but traffic jams are expected to be too long here. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Somalia manages airline reactivation

Somalia government manages airline start

The African country will try to reactivate its airline, which emerged in 1964 in association with Alitalia and collapsed in 1991 after the fall of the government of Mohamed Siad Barre.

Domestic measures to rescue the flights of the Somali Airlines company began with a meeting of the minister of transport and civil aviation, Mohamed Abdullahi Salad, with the employees, in which they evaluated the resumption of operations, for the first time since his disappearance, he added the Hiiraan Online publication.

The most controversial issues were the most ideal forms of structure and how to revive this institution in a market as competitive as the current one, dominated during these last two decades by private companies such as Jubba Air, Daalo Air, African Express, Freedom Airline Express and Ocean Airlines.

The Somali Airlines, whose reactivation also faces the war situation between the government and the extremist group Al Shabab, will also face the growing competition from strong companies such as Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Flydubai, which now demand participation in the lucrative market. Aprueban a Norwegian Air Argentina

Norwegian-737-MAX-8

AW | 2017 12 11 16:18 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The Government of Argentina authorized Monday, December 11, 2017 the low-cost airline Norwegian Air Argentina to fly in the country and abroad.

The Minister of Transport of Argentina, Guillermo Dietrich, emphasizes in his recitals that «the initiative projected by Norwegian Air Argentina S.A. It constitutes an enterprise aimed at satisfying the principles of entering the market of new operators, stimulating competition and diversifying services, which constitute the aspirations declared in Decree 2.186 / 92».

BOEING 737-800 OF NORWEGIAN AIR SHUTTLE

Transporte of the Nation authorized the low cost airline Norwegian Air Argentina to operate 153 national and international routes, through Resolution 1288-E published in the Official Gazette. Of these 153 flights, 73 are domestic and 80 international destinations, including cities in South America, North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Africa. Norwegian Air Argentina plans to incorporate 60 Boeing 737-800 aircraft into the country, opening domestic and international routes starting in 2018.

With bases of operations in Ezeiza, Cordoba, Mendoza, Rosario, Salta and other cities in the interior of the country, connectivity options will be multiplied. Among the routes granted by the national government, officialized today, 51 routes stand out that are completely new. Among the international routes, those awarded to Córdoba, Mendoza and Rosario stand out, which will expand their offer to connect with international destinations without going through Buenos Aires.

In its Official Gazette, the Argentine government announced that Norwegian will have access to the main airports in cities such as Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Rosario, Salta and Mendoza. Norwegian plans to invest US$ 4,300 million to ensure the development of its operations in the country, in a term of five to eight years. The plan also includes the direct employment of 3,200 people, which in turn will stimulate the creation of more than 50,000 jobs indirectly.

Norwegian is the latest in a series of low-cost airlines authorized to operate in Argentina in the last two years. In a measure that the government said would generate 3,200 direct jobs in Argentina. The concession has a useful life of 15 years before its renewal can be considered. The National Executive, Mauricio Macri, an advocate of free markets, has said that competition among operators is the best way to keep airfares low. A \ W
