Wingo will restore Venezuela
Wingo will incorporate four Venezuelan destinations Expansion to Caribbean destinations
The airline industry continues to show signs of reestablishing post-pandemic connections. The airlines begin to prepare new destinations, higher frequencies and even increase their capacity. The Colombian airline Wingo has announced the destinations discontinued due to the health crisis, as well as starting new routes. As part of the reactivation of air travel, Wingo will restart destinations to Venezuela. «Without restrictions, we will fly to four cities in Venezuela», said Jorge Jiménez, Commercial and Planning Director.
Wingo has reported on the details of the airline’s expansion plan, highlighting the arrival again in Venezuela, having the light of the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC).
Wingo has been entering the industry in more than 100% reactivated domestic markets and more than 90% internationally, which means, in terms of reactivation, that they are at the same pre-pandemic level. On some routes, they point to a better occupancy rate and a reactivation of order between 120% and 130% on some routes. In a pandemic, the Copa Airlines feeder airline has increased its participation in the international market and has grown by more than 160% compared to 2019.
Expansion plans
Wingo will incorporate a growth plan for new routes and increased capacity. The Colombian airline will launch two international routes from the José María Córdoba Airport in Medellín, the Medellín—Havana and Medellín—Aruba route, which will connect Colombia with the Caribbean. The Medellin—Havana route will be the first airline to connect both destinations, a milestone for the service network in Colombia, and is a product very well received by air transport users. The Medellín—Aruba route will allow access to the beaches and Dutch culture in the Caribbean. Ticket sales will begin this week, with the inaugural flight scheduled for October 1, 2022.
To meet the demand for international flights, Wingo will add a new aircraft to its fleet, its ninth Boeing 737 by 10/2022 as part of the expansion established by the airline to provide more connections, pursuing consolidation in the international market. Currently, Wingo is covering four international routes directly from Medellin, which are to Panama, Cancun, Punta Cana and Santo Domingo.
Wingo will incorporate more frequencies to the destinations served. From Medellín, new frequencies are added to the Medellín-Panama route, which will go from having seven weekly frequencies to ten weekly frequencies (10Frq/S) and a plan to re-launch routes in Venezuela. The airline awaits the announcement of the lifting of health and flight restrictions to reactivate the services they plan to cover. “We are very aware of the lifting of the restrictions for flights to Venezuela by the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC), as soon as the restrictions are lifted we will undoubtedly fly to Venezuela. Before the pandemic, we operated Bogotá—Caracas, we were the only Colombian national airline flying that route, we flew four times a week, we are going to resume those plans and we are even thinking within our network plan, creating routes to Venezuela from other cities in Colombia and there will also be in the next surprise weeks on the strengthening of domestic flights, that is what is seen towards the end of the year», said the Commercial Director of Wingo, Jorge Jiménez. The airline has not detailed which will be the four large cities in Venezuela that will be served.
The Colombian low-cost airline had transported around 1.6 million passengers in 20212, while the goal for 2022 is to reach around 2.5 million as part of the expansion of its services in the region.

Post-pandemic European slot reservations
EC requests airlines to reserve the same pre-pandemic slots
The European Commission (EC) proposed this Tuesday 07/12 that airlines have to re-book 80% of slots in order to keep them the following year, as they did before the pandemic. The Community Executive wants the requirement to be reinstated as of October 30, 2022, in a proposal that the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, the institution that represents the countries, will still have to approve.
The Commission eliminated the obligation with the outbreak of the global health crisis in March 2020 to end ghost flights and reduce pollution, but as the restrictions due to the pandemic were lifted, the number of slots that had to be increased progressively. book the airlines, currently 64%. «The demand for air traffic has clearly returned and the time has come to return to the normal use of slots to guarantee efficient use of airport capacity, with fair and competitive access for airlines, for the benefit of passengers», said the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Valean.
However, Brussels proposes that in the event of a worsening of the pandemic, a natural disaster or any political event with consequences for air traffic (such as the war in Ukraine), airlines can take advantage of the exceptions that have existed during the pandemic to justify why they don’t use their slots. Thus, if any of these circumstances occur, the European Commission may reduce the slots that companies have to reserve, as a measure of last resort, if for four consecutive weeks, air traffic is less than 80% compared to the level of 2019 «We have to ensure that we are better prepared for the unexpected», said Adina Valean.
Brussels also proposed specific measures in the face of war, such as a transition period of 16 weeks until the slot requirement comes into force again, once Ukrainian airspace has been reopened, or the possibility of reducing slots. on routes between the European Union and Ukraine.

US cargo employees exempt from arbitration
Justice maintains air cargo employees are exempt from arbitration
The United States Supreme Court has held that airline cargo clerks traveling across state lines are exempt from the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA) because they belong to a «class of workers engaged in foreign or interstate commerce» under § 1 of the FAA.
Latrice Saxon worked for Southwest Airlines and was responsible for training and supervising teams of ramp agents who load and unload aircraft cargo on Southwest aircraft traveling across state lines. Latrice Saxon filed a class action alleging failure to pay proper FLSA overtime wages in the Northern District of Illinois (IL). However, Latrice Saxon had signed an arbitration agreement requiring her to arbitrate their wage disputes, and Southwest moved to dismiss the lawsuit and compel arbitration under the FAA.
Latrice Saxon opposed the motion, citing FAA § 1, which exempts «employment contracts for seamen, railroad clerks, or any other class of workers engaged in foreign or interstate commerce». He argued that ramp supervisors, like seamen and railroad employees, were a «class of workers engaged in foreign or interstate commerce», but the district court agreed with Southwest, finding that only employees involved in the «transportation real», not those who simply handle goods, were within the § 1 of the FAA. On appeal, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals disagreed with the District Court’s decision, holding that «the act of loading cargo onto a vehicle for interstate transportation is itself commerce». The Seventh Circuit’s decision conflicted with an earlier Fifth Circuit decision, Eastus v. ISS Facility Services, Inc., 960 F.3d 207 (2020), and the Supreme Court granted certiorari to resolve the conflict between the two circuits.
The decision of the Supreme Court
In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court held that shippers who load and unload aircraft cargo traveling within the state perform a direct role in the interstate transportation of goods and thus belong to a «class of workers engaged in commercial commerce foreign or interstate» under § 1 of the FAA. The Tribunal conducted an analysis in two stages. First, it examined how to define the relevant «class of workers». The Court rejected Latrice Saxon’s argument that the «class of workers» should be defined as virtually all airline employees, which would include shift schedulers or those who design the Southwest website. Rather, the Court held that the investigation should focus on the job duties of the employees themselves, rather than the employer’s business and that Latrice Saxon «belongs to a class of workers who physically load and unload cargo on and off aircraft frequently».
Next, the Court considered whether that class of aircraft cargo shippers «engaged in foreign or interstate commerce». It determined that «someone who loads cargo onto an aircraft bound for interstate traffic is intimately involved with the commerce of that cargo» and that workers like Saxon who load and unload aircraft cargo traveling in interstate commerce are exempt from FAA.
Employer takeout
Although the Court found a class of workers exempt from the Federal Arbitration Act, it expressly rejected the contention that this exemption should apply to all employees of an employer involved in foreign or interstate transportation. He went on to provide examples of positions that would not meet the exemption, such as workers engaged in interstate asphalt sales or workers providing cleaning services to a corporation engaged in interstate commerce. Employers involved in interstate or foreign commercial transportation should consult legal counsel if they plan to use arbitration agreements as part of their dispute resolution process.

SAS pilots continue on strike
Pilots reject new repatriation actions
The striking pilots of the Swedish airline SAS Airlines reject new actions to repatriate stranded tourists. The airline’s management had violated the agreed conditions. The pilots of the Scandinavian Airlines airline reject new interruptions of their strike, which has been going on for a week, after the repatriation campaigns of stranded tourists over the weekend.
The SPG pilots’ union accused on Sunday 07/10 the company’s management of having violated the agreed framework conditions. According to union leader Martin Lindgren, the flights were only intended for destinations where there are few or no alternatives for a return flight. However, Martin Lindgren said that to the surprise of the pilots’ union, many planes had also visited popular holiday destinations such as Rhodes, Crete and Split. Currently, there are alternative travel options in these destinations. For this reason, the SPG has decided not to allow any more exceptions after the flights on Sunday 10/07.
SAS spokeswoman Karin Nyman criticized the union’s decision. The company has tried to ensure exact compliance with the complex requirements for the approximately seventy flights over the weekend. She rejected the union’s information on alternative travel options for stranded tourists. The Christian New Year’s holiday season is at its absolute peak, all seats are fully booked with all airlines, which the pilots’ union is also aware of, Karin Nyman had expressed.
The SAS pilots had resigned their jobs on July 4 after failing in collective bargaining. They are protesting against planned salary cuts, which, according to their information, could amount to up to 30 percent.

ANA Airways reconfirms orders to Boeing
Change Boeing 777 order for next generation freighters Order 20 Boeing 737-8 MAX plus 10 options
All Nippon Airways said Monday 07/11 that it has converted two of its 20 orders for the next-generation Boeing 777-9 airliner to the Boeing 777-8F cargo version, becoming the third airline to commit to the big future freighter since that Boeing launched the program in early 2022. The carrier’s initial purchase plan was exclusively for passenger jets.
ANA Airways said it has also finalized a tentative order for thirty (30) Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, which represents twenty (20) in firm orders, plus ten (10) purchase options. The order had been first announced in January 2019.
ANA Airways is a large, combined airline that operates nine Boeing 767-300F and two Boeing 777F midsize freighters, based on its fleet as of March 2021. The Japanese carrier said the new 777-8F freighters will enter service sometime in 2028. or 2029 and signify the company’s growth plans for the air cargo business.
The Japanese airline originally ordered the 777-9 aircraft in 2014, but the plane’s development has been plagued by engineering challenges. Boeing recently delayed the expected delivery of the 777-9 to 2025, more than a year later than planned. The first freighter variants are not scheduled to be ready until 2027. Boeing, until recently, referred to both variants generically as the 777-X.
Boeing’s biggest customer for the new wide-body freighter is Qatar Airways, which has an order form for 34 planes plus options for 16 more. Lufthansa’s cargo division has signed a purchase agreement for seven Boeing 777-8F freighters, while Ethiopian Airlines has a letter of intent for five units.
The planemaker is facing new competition from rival Airbus in the cargo sector that it dominated for decades. Airbus presented at the end of 2021 a new wide-body freighter based on the popular A350 airliner. Airbus has 24 firm orders for the A350F, with more waiting to be finalized. Experts say the planes are roughly comparable in capability.
The Boeing 777-8F has roughly the same payload capacity as a 747-400F freighter, while offering a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency, emissions and operating costs, according to the American builder. It will also have two additional pallet positions than the legacy 777 freighter, along with a 15% fuel benefit. Technological enhancements include a new carbon fiber composite wing and fuel-efficient GE engines. With a range of 4,410 nautical miles, the 777-8 will allow airlines to make fewer stops and lower landing fees on long-haul routes. Boeing’s 2021 commercial market outlook projects a 70% increase in the global freighter fleet by 2040, including some 450 new large wide-body freighters.

Australia lifts up COVID-19 restrictions
Health restrictions lifted in Australia
Travelers to Australia can visit the country without worrying about COVID-19 travel restrictions from July 6, 2022. The new order means those entering Australia will no longer need to show proof of vaccination. This follows the lifting of quarantine restrictions and testing requirements for COVID-19.
«As more and more of us travel internationally and become more confident in managing our risk from COVID, our airports are getting busier. Removing these requirements will not only reduce delays at our airports, it will encourage more visitors and skilled workers to choose Australia as a destination. And for Australian citizens, with the removal of these requirements, returning home will be much easier», said Clare O’Neil of the Home Affairs.
Travelers who have been patiently waiting to return to Australia will find that it is now even easier. The Next Vacay online travel search system expects to see growing demand in the region. «Australia has shown a strong public health response towards COVID-19 and has been one of the most rigorous border controls in the world that we have seen during the Coronavirus pandemic», said Naveen Dittakavi, founder and CEO of Next Vacay. Since tourists have been patiently waiting to visit the country, we expect this reopening to have a significant impact on the travel industry. Current travel trends have 2022 as the year of bucket list travel, with people seeking those once-in-a-lifetime international destinations, so it’s no surprise that searches for Australia’s covid vaccine travel have increased by 900% in the past.
«While people looking to travel to Australia expect to find slightly cheaper airfare, flights to Australia are expected to be considerably higher than pre-pandemic levels due to the huge financial hit airlines have taken over the course of the pandemic of COVID», said Naveen Dittakavi. Australia frequently tops travellers’ lists, and the country is attracting visitors with a new tourism campaign, which is just the first step in a long-term travel marketing strategy to boost tourism in the country.

Canada Communications Interruption
Canada recovers major telecommunications outage
Rogers Telecommunications said its network was beginning to recover on Friday night 7/8 after a 19-hour outage at one of Canada’s largest telecommunications operators grounded banking, transportation and government access operations. for millions of people, sparking customer outrage and adding to criticism for its dominance of the industry. Almost every facet of life has been disrupted, with the outage affecting internet access, phone cellular and landline connections. Some callers were unable to reach emergency services through 911 calls, police across Canada said. Canadians flocked to cafes and public libraries that still had Internet access and hovered outside hotels to pick up a signal. Canada’s border services agency said the outage affected its mobile app for incoming travellers. Retailers’ cashless payment systems crashed; banks reported problems with ATM services.
Rogers Telecommunications said in a statement on Twitter that «our wireless services are beginning to recover and workers are trying to get people back online as quickly as possible». In a separate statement on his website, the company’s Chairman and CEO, Tony Staffieri, apologized for the outage, saying: «Today we let you down. We can and will do better». He added that the company does not have a timeline for when networks will be fully restored, «but we will continue to share information with our customers as we restore full services». He said a credit would be applied to affected customers. The outage also made transportation and flight bookings difficult at the height of the summer travel season.
A spokesman for the Minister of Public Safety of Canada, Marco Mendicino, said on Friday night 07/08 that the blackout was not the result of a cyber attack.
Transport Canada has received no reports of direct safety impacts to any flight, maritime or rail service as part of this outage. While the outages were widespread, several carriers and transit points said their services were unaffected. The Port of Montreal reported no outages. The Calgary Airport Authority said it had «no major operational impacts».
A spokesman for Vancouver International Airport/YVR, one of Canada’s busiest, said travelers were unable to pay for parking, use terminal ATMs or buy items at airport retailers. Air Canada, the country’s largest airline, said its call center had been affected. Airlines in Canada, like those in Europe and the United States, have been experiencing high call volumes amid flight cancellations and delays due to staffing shortages from the pandemic.
Canadian Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne called the situation «unacceptable» and said he was in communication with telecommunications CEOs, including those of Rogers, Bell and Telus, to find a solution.
On Friday 07/08, some government agencies canceled services after losing Internet access, including Canada’s passport offices and the telecommunications regulator. Canada Revenue Agency, the country’s tax collection agency, lost phone service.
Critics said the outage demonstrated the need for more competition in telecommunications. Earlier this year, Canada’s competition bureau blocked Rogers’ attempt to take over rival Shaw Communications in a C$20bn deal, saying it would hamper competition in a country where telecoms fees are few. of the highest in the world. The merger still awaits a final verdict. «Today’s outage illustrates the need for more independent competition that will drive more investment in the network, so outages are much less likely», said Anthony Lacavera, Managing Director of Globealive, an investment firm that had bid for a wireless carrier involved in the Rogers-Shaw deal.
The hiatus was Rogers’ second in 15 months. It started around 04:30 am. ET (08:30 GMT) on 07/08 and knocked out a quarter of Canada’s observable Internet connectivity, monitoring group NetBlocks said. With around 10 million wireless subscribers and 2.25 million retail Internet subscribers, Rogers Telecommunications is the leading provider in the Province of Ontario, Canada’s most populous province and home to its largest city, Toronto.

DOT requires I do not charge children fees
US requires airlines to seat passengers/children without surcharge
The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) has warned airlines to stop charging extra fees to passengers with children for accommodating them together. The DOT announced that airlines should «make any immediate adjustments necessary to ensure that small children can sit next to their accompanying adults», including upgrading to a more premium seat. The Federal agency stressed that airlines that use seat blocking technology in their reservation systems will have to have enough seats available for those traveling with small children.
For its part, Airlines for America (A4A), said that «US airlines have always worked to accommodate customers traveling together, especially those traveling with children, and will continue to do so».
The high demand of passengers due to the strong reactivation of tourism continues to generate difficulties when it comes to having a seat reservation. This means that airlines continue to maximize availability on each flight, but at the same time they must face the lack of personnel to attend air services in the country.

Spirit 3rd postponed for synergy
Vote on merger with Frontier postponed again
This is the third time Spirit Airlines has canceled the Shareholders’ Meeting vote. Two previous scheduled votes were canceled in June 2022. Spirit Airlines has postponed the vote on the Frontier merger until at least July 15, 2022, after changing the scheduled date to 07/08. The date shift on a shareholder vote on a proposed merger with Frontier Airlines will continue in discussions with Frontier Airlines and JetBlue Airways.
The vote was to be held on Friday 07/08 and has been delayed until at least Friday, July 15, 2022. The Frontier deal is favored by the Spirit board, however the delay is seen as an indication that the merger of the two discount airlines lacks shareholder support in the face of a JetBlue offer that is higher in current value.
JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes said he was encouraged by recent conversations with Spirit officials, saying they «hope they now recognize that Spirit shareholders have indicated their clear and overwhelming preference for a JetBlue deal». Frontier Airlines declined to comment.
Miramar, Florida-based (FL) Spirit Airlines, one of the largest discount airlines in the United States, reached an agreement with Frontier in February 2022 and has stuck with it as a bidding war between Frontier Airlines heats up, based in Denver/DEN, and JetBlue Airways, based in Forest Hills, New York/JFK.
There have been concerns that a deal with JetBlue Airways would raise issues with antitrust regulators and block a deal. While JetBlue says it can get antitrust approval, Spirit shareholders who think airline stock will rise can put the cash they get from JetBlue back into airline stock.

The Boeing Company

Embraer S.A.

Farnborough Approach 2022
Outlook for the commercial aviation industry Airbus-Boeing bet capabilities to boost sales
The Farnborough Airshow will return from July 18-22, 2022. Spread over five days, the Farnborough Airshow 2022 is one of the largest aerospace events in the world. Many exhibitors will be in attendance and scheduled to make an appearance bringing with them a wide variety of aircraft, helicopters and defense aviation vehicles. According to the organizers, the return of the fair is seen as an unprecedented opportunity to reconnect, as companies from around the world will come together to embark on innovative collaboration and partnership.
The aeronautical fair will show different areas of the industry, including aerospace, defense, sustainability and innovation. Experts will be on hand to give talks on developments in air travel. There is no public weekend for the Airshow, but people will still be able to see these planes flying in the area. This includes exhibits from the Red Arrows, the Black Eagles Display Team, and the Army Historic Aircraft Flight Team.
Airbus Group
The European manufacturer could be rolling out a battery of announcements ahead of the 2022 Farnborough Air Show. Airbus Group is leading a race against Boeing over the possible sale of some thirty (30) wide-body jets to Malaysia Airlines as the airline of the Southeast Asia, seeking more fuel-efficient planes amid an uptick in travel, is focused on cost. Airbus is offering its A330NEO range of aircraft, as well as the A350 candidate.
Airbus’ next challenge is to focus on the production capabilities of the A320/A321NEO narrowbodies line as airlines expand their orders. The other front it will have to contend with is a substantial increase in orders for the bestseller A321LR, and its next product the A321XLR.
Undoubtedly, the European manufacturer Airbus’ own competitor is its own company, since it will have to realign all its capacities so as not to fall into the same mistake as the American manufacturer Boeing, which has been in the background.
The Boeing Company
American builder The Boeing Company will showcase the newest aircraft and advancements in sustainable, autonomous aviation at the 2022 Farnborough Air Show. The largest Boeing 737-10 MAX will make its debut at the first international air show, despite the ups and downs for your next certification. The Boeing 777-9 will join the list of aircraft at the British show. Boeing will introduce the newest and largest members of its 737 MAX and 777X aircraft families at the Farnborough International Air Show this July 2022 and introduce new tools in the drive toward more sustainable and autonomous flight. The Boeing 737-10 MAX, making its international debut, will join the Boeing 777-9 in daily flight and static display. The planes, each one of the most fuel efficient in their class, will fly to the show on a blend of sustainable aviation fuel, which Boeing sees as an important lever to further reduce carbon emissions. The company will also introduce a modeling tool that will provide actionable insights into strategies the aviation industry can use to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
The 737-10 will be on the show grounds from July 18-21. The largest member of the 737 MAX family will provide operators with more capacity, better fuel efficiency and the best economy per seat of any single-aisle aircraft. The 737 MAX family, which has received more than 3,300 net orders, takes advantage of advanced aerodynamic design and highly efficient engines to reduce fuel use and emissions by 20% and noise footprint by 50% compared to aircraft they replace.
The 777-9, which is the world’s largest and most efficient twin-engine aircraft, will be at the airshow. Based on the most successful twin-aisle aircraft, the 777, and the advanced technologies of the 787 Dreamliner family, the 777-9 will deliver 10% higher fuel use, emissions and operating costs than the competition. The 777X family has more than 340 orders from leading carriers around the world.
Another de-carbonisation strategy is electric propulsion and Boeing’s Wisk Aero joint venture will make the European debut of its all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi. The «Cora» development vehicle is pilotless, helping to advance autonomous capabilities in aviation. Boeing will highlight other autonomous capabilities at the show, including its MQ-25 Unmanned Aerial Refueler and Air Power Equipment System (ATS).
«In the four years since the last Farnborough Air Show, the world has seen the critical social and economic role that the aerospace and defense industry plays. We are excited to reconnect with our Farnborough colleagues as we tackle the need for a more sustainable future and we are taking concrete steps to enable innovation and clean technology. We look forward to sharing the progress we are making», said Sir Michael Arthur, President of Boeing International.
In the area of Defense, Space and Security, Boeing’s exhibit will highlight its highly capable military helicopters, including the CH-47 Chinook and AH-64 Apache, and mobility and surveillance aircraft such as the P-8A Poseidon, E-7 Wedgetail and KC-46A Pegasus. Boeing will also display some of its newest and most advanced programs digitally, including the T-7A Red Hawk and ATS trainer. Additionally, the US Department of Defense corral is expected to display the FA-18E/F, F-15E, P-8A, AH-64E, and CH-47F.
In Global Services, Boeing will highlight its customer-centric services business that is focused on keeping the global fleet flying safely, efficiently and sustainably by combining OEM expertise with data-driven innovation. This includes showcasing parts, modifications, digital, maintenance and training solution offerings, as well as an extensive global supply chain, maintenance and logistics network.
Boeing will present its vision for a sustainable aerospace future that is based on collaboration, technical research, data and extensive testing of technologies including sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen and electric power.
Boeing will highlight autonomous platforms such as Wisk Aero’s MQ-25, ATS and Cora. The company draws on decades of engineering experience to accelerate autonomous capabilities, which can enable affordable and sustainable modes of transportation as the world grapples with a growing population and aging infrastructure. Boeing has made significant investments in California-based Wisk Aero, a leading advanced air mobility company and developer of the first all-electric, autonomous air taxi in the United States. The Wisk configuration is a major differentiator within the eVTOL market, as the independence of its lift and thrust rotors is expected to support launch vehicle simplicity and certification to market.
ATR Aircraft
The French-Italian constructor ATR Aircraft will show its wide range of products and services at the 2022 Farnborough International Air Show.
From the next-generation Pratt & Whitney PW127XT engine, to ATR’s short take-off and landing variant, the purpose-built freighter, and the future EVO family of helicopters, the company will highlight current products and its vision for the future of aviation. regional. To highlight the modernity, comfort, fuel efficiency and versatility of the ATR family of aircraft, an ATR 72-600, soon to be 100% SAF certified on both engines, will be on static display.
ATR CEO Stefano Bortoli and SVP Commercial Fabrice Vautier are scheduled to host a press conference on July 19, 2022, presenting the latest ATR updates and the new Global Market Forecast, the first forecast of this type since 2018.
Embraer S.A.
The Brazilian constructor Embraer S.A. has revealed details about its upcoming appointment in Farnborough 2022. The post-Boeing and post-pandemic emerging market will open new horizons for the company with new products to diversify and mark its position in the world market.
The presence of a model of the EVE eVTOL designed for the future Urban Air Mobility (UAM) service has allowed it to enter the important market for inter-city connections. Currently, the company has accumulated sales of 1,900 units worth US$ 6.6 billion.
The aerospace company will also incorporate the British fair with the visit of the latest generation Embraer E195-E2. The regional aviation segment continues to gain value, where the Brazilian industry seeks to conquer the market and continue to be the leader in its category. Embraer estimates a market for a demand of 8,600 E2-Jets aircraft over the next twenty years.
In addition, Embraer has reported that the E3 Turboprop Program continues to advance towards its planning and development, where it will reveal in 2023 the first guidelines for the start of construction of the new model of new generation turboprop aircraft between 70 and 90 passengers. After the successful reach of the Embraer Emb-120 Turboprop, Embraer returns to the saga of turboprop aircraft to compete with the absolute dominance of the Franco-Italian manufacturer ATR Aircraft.
Competitiveness at Farnborough 2022
Airbus has finalized a large order in June 2022, which raises great expectations about possible additional orders through aeronautical fairs. During the first five months of 2022, Airbus booked 364 gross aircraft orders and 191 net orders, heralding anticipation for an expanded order book for Farnborough 2022.
Airbus has outpaced Boeing. Strong order activity in June 2022 gave Airbus 259 net orders year to date in 2022. On July 1, 2022, it announced agreements to sell 292 aircraft to various Chinese airlines. That keeps its order book at more than 7,000 planes, compared to Boeing with 4,192 ordered.
In May 2022, Boeing announced an order for fifty (50) 737 MAX aircraft from International Airlines Group (IAG), which owns several major European airlines, including British Airways. That deal will be added to Boeing’s order book after receiving approval from IAG shareholders. During June 2022, Boeing had registered 236 gross orders and 107 net orders. The troubled 737 MAX family drove the bulk of its orders, but Boeing also received a substantial contribution from its current and next-generation 777F freighter models.
An order for one hundred (100) Boeing 737-10 MAXs for Delta Air Lines could be included soon, as a prelude to lobbying the US Congress for certification. But Boeing CEO David Calhoun recently warned that the company could scrap the 737-10 MAX if Congress doesn’t delay a year-end deadline to certify the model in its current design. While David Calhoun may be posing to pressure US lawmakers, the resulting uncertainty could also make customers wary of ordering the MAX 10.
As it builds on those orders, Airbus’ leadership will grow even further. Will Boeing be able to catch up in the face of the growing rise of the European builder? That is a great question that continues to hang in the air. Many analysts are optimistic that Boeing will reveal a number of additional orders at the 2022 Farnborough Airshow. However, Airbus Group is also surely lining up orders to announce at Farnborough 2022. Both builders will play important roles in reaching new targets going forward for establish new agreements and maximize assembly lines for an eventual high demand for commercial aircraft.
Due to supply chain issues and a continuing glut of undelivered planes built in 2019, Boeing has been unable to maintain 737 production at its 2022 target rate of 31 per month. By contrast, Airbus is on track to ramp up production of the A320 Family at a record pace of 65 per month by next summer. It is also laying out plans to increase production to 75 per month by 2025, while increasing production of the smaller A220 model from six per month today to 14 per month in a few years.
Increased order activity and a resumption of 787 Dreamliner deliveries could soon help Boeing shares begin to recover from a 40% drop over the past year. However, investors looking to bet on the aerospace industry should probably choose Airbus instead. Despite having a clear product advantage and a dramatically larger commercial aircraft portfolio than Boeing, Airbus has a lower market capitalization than its US competitor. That makes it a much more attractive investment opportunity.
In short, Airbus is circling Boeing in the narrow-body market. That’s where the vast majority of current demand is, due to the narrow bodies’ superior cost profile and range improvement.
