Imagen relacionadaASIENTOS SKYRIDER, UN ASPECTO FUTURÍSTICO DE «AVIONES SARDINAS»

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

FAA tight seats do not imply insecurity

The FAA will not force airlines to modify seats because they do not represent safety difficulties

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will not force airlines to provide passengers with more leg room and wider seats because the current arrangements do not present safety problems or hinder the speed of evacuation, the agency said Tuesday. The tightest seats do not seem to hinder safety or slow evacuations.

In a document, the FAA said it could not find evidence that the current width of the seat, leg dimensions or increased passenger size will slow evacuations. The agency also said that more time is required for flight crews to open the exit door than for passengers to get up from their seats. «The FAA has no evidence that a typical passenger, even a larger one, takes more than a couple of seconds to get up from their seat», the document says.

Case Flyers Rights

Last year, the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit ordered the FAA to review the rules of seat security after a group called Flyers Rights challenged the administration over concerns that tighter seats and passengers larger ones could slow evacuations. Flyers Rights acknowledged the FAA’s decision, but gave no further details.

Distances between seats

A couple of decades ago, the distance between a backrest and the back of the next row used to be 35 inches. Now there are 28 and regulators say it still meets the evacuation standards.

The distance between seats, called height, has gone from an average of 35» inches before 1978 to 31» inches today. Sometimes it can measure only 28» inches. Meanwhile, the average width of the 18-inch seat has been reduced from one to two inches. Some airline seat manufacturers are pushing for an even tighter seat. The Skyrider project looks more like a hanger than a full seat and has a pitch of only 23 inches.

With the advent of low cost airlines that want to take advantage of the best, the spaces of the aircraft cabins have allowed under international safety standards to reduce the margins of spaces not only between seats, but also, eliminating spaces such as galley, toallet, among other modifications.

Resultado de imagen para seat airlines historyTHE LOW COST AIRLINES HAVE USED THE TYPE OF SERVICE TO REDUCE THE SPACES BETWEEN SEATS

Through the Department of Transportation of the United States (DOT), the FAA has determined in the FAA-2015-4011 file that there is no reliable evidence that small seats or the selection of distances between rows threaten safety at aviation in airlines.

Airplane makes evacuation test videos to argue that the new rules are not necessary. Boeing said that in 1996 it tested planes with 351 passengers and 28 inches between rows, and the results met the FAA’s evacuation standards.

Jeffrey Gardlin, a security engineer who has worked for the FAA for 36 years, said that large passengers may take longer to escape from exits, so the agency sets the minimum sizes for exits with excess wings. But, he said, the size does not make much difference in the time it takes to move from a seat to the aisle.

In an affidavit, Gardlin cited seven accidents since 2015 in which passengers were able to escape aircraft designed to meet current standards. Some passengers were injured during the evacuations, but none died in fires, even those that destroyed the plane. He said there were no reports that the size of the seat or the tilt of the row slowed down any of the evacuations.

Government & FAA

Tuesday’s decision is not necessarily the last word on aircraft seats. A bill passed by the House of Representatives would indicate to the FAA that it establish the minimum size of the seats, although it leaves the decision on exact measures to the agency. The bill is pending in the Senate.

Last month, the inspector general of the Department of Transportation announced a review of the FAA’s evacuation standards, noting that today’s planes have more seats, passengers are larger and have more hand bags.

The inspector general was responding to a request from members of the Transportation Committee of the House, which followed a confused evacuation of an American Airlines plane in Chicago after a fire in the engine. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

FAA will carry out an audit in India

The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct a DGCA audit this month

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will carry out an audit of the Indian regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as of July 2018. The Federal Aviation Administration team will arrive on July 15. The audit of the aviation agency will supervise the country between 16-20 July 2018.

The FAA audit comes months after a comprehensive safety oversight audit carried out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in November last year. The audit will cover three key areas: operations, airworthiness and the pilot licensing mechanism.

From 2013, this would be the third audit of the national aviation regulator by the FAA. In 2013, the US regulator had downgraded the security classification of the Indian aviation sector and was only restored in 2015. The FAA, in 2013, had degraded due to the failure of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to comply with international safety standards.

India is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world and most of the national operators have embarked on ambitious expansion plans, which include orders for a large number of aircraft. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

MH370 Memmorial in Perth

The Australian Prime Minister says that the monument is a highly sensitive issue

Plans to build a memorial for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 were suspended until the Boeing 777-200ER was found. The Australian government undertook to build a memorial in Perth in 2014. But Prime Minister Mark McGowan said that he and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack had decided that building a monument before the plane was found was insensitive . «This is a complex and highly sensitive issue, and the well-being of relatives of the disappeared has always been our number one priority», McGowan said in a statement.

While some relatives supported the monument, others had concerns. It was decided by the best interest of all concerned not to proceed with the monument at this time. «When they find the plane, at least we know where they are and we can make a decision on where to build a monument we can visit, we should not have wasted energy on this, that energy should have been spent on finding the plane», Weeks said.

It is believed that the Boeing 777-200ER plane rushed into the Indian Ocean, and the governments of Australia, Malaysia and China have financed four years of searches. A $ 200 million effort funded by the Malaysian government was canceled in May, after five months of searching.

The Minister of Transportation, Anthony Loke, told reporters that at that time «I was hoping that they would discover new information that could help direct the search, and at some point in the future the aircraft will be located. unwavering commitments to solve the mystery of MH370», he said. ONU aprueba protocolo emisiones gases

AW | 2018 06 28 18:33 | AVIATION SAFETY / AVIATION ORGANISMS

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

UN would approve protocol emissions gases

The United Nations agency will approve protocol for emissions standards for airlines

A United Nations group is passing standards to measure how much airlines need to reduce the growth of greenhouse gas emissions from aircraft. The standards were approved Wednesday in Montreal by the council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Under a 2016 agreement, airlines that fly international routes will start measuring their emissions on January 1. Those measurements will be used to determine how much airlines need to offset the growth of emissions.

Imagen relacionadaThe UN group is deciding how to implement a plan called the Compensation and Carbon Reduction Plan for International Aviation, or CORSIA, which aims to freeze the level of aviation carbon emissions to 2020 levels.

Airlines could buy credits to offset their emissions, an approach that critics say would do little to improve the environment. One of the most discussed issues under discussion in Montreal was a change in the definition of alternative fuels to include fossil fuels that are marginally cleaner than others. Environmentalists worry that they may undermine the drive to use biofuels or develop electric planes. Some European countries have expressed opposition to the change, but a group of airlines called Air Transport Action Group said the UN group approved it. «We think it’s quite scandalous and fossil fuels have no place in a global policy of protecting the planet», said Brad Schallert, deputy director for international climate cooperation at the World Wildlife Fund.

Annie Petsonk, of the Environmental Defense Fund, said the blessing of fossil fuels that are at least 10% cleaner than conventional fossil fuels «could be a problem for the credibility» of the emission reduction scheme. The production of aviation biofuels is small, but it is expected to grow. Petsonk said that the adoption of standards and recommendations by the United Nations group «marks progress and momentum, but important details remain to be resolved».

The leader of the airline group, Michael Gill, said the industry considers it possible that conventional fuels can emit less carbon emissions. But, he said, airlines believe that long-term emissions reductions will depend on non-fossil sources, and should be the subject of research and funding.

The ecologists show that it is a significant advance, but distrust of a change that they fear could slow down the wider use of biofuels. Aviation represents only about 2% of emissions related to climate change, but its participation is growing faster than many other sources. A \ W

AW | 2018 06 26 14:23 | AVIATION SAFETY / AIRPORTS

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Israeli missiles impact Damascus airport

The Damascus International Airport has suffered cancellation of flights due to missile attacks in the area

Syria’s state news agency SANA said that two Israeli missiles hit near Damascus International Airport, today Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in the morning.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Syrian air defense systems did not intercept the missiles. The war monitor based in Britain said that an explosion was heard at 01:00 hs. near Damascus Airport was caused by missiles fired by Israeli planes from the direction of the Golan Heights. Its objective was the storage of weapons and stores belonging to non-Syrian militias loyal to the Syrian regime.

Iran is a key ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and supports a number of militias, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which fights in support of Assad. Israel, concerned that Iran’s growing presence in Syria is a threat to its security, has attacked dozens of positions backed by Iran and Iran in Syria during the course of the seven-year conflict.

The Damascus International Airport has not suffered any damage due to the impact of the missiles in the area. The operations of the airport have been normalized, but cautious to new threats. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

DGAC reports irregularities in LAW

The DGAC reveals that very serious irregularities in the Chilean airline LAW Airlines

The report recently released by the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), the body that oversees the airlines in Chile, reports on the irregularities in the breach of the aviation regulations of the airline LAW, Latin American Wings Airlines. On May 16, 2018, the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) definitively canceled the license of the airline LAW for national and international operations.

Audit at LAW

The report presented by the regulatory agency of aviation in Chile, more than a month after the cancellation resolution of LAW’s aero commercial operations, the results of a report prepared by the same agency, where detailed the irregularities committed by LAW Airlines, after an audit conducted between May 20 and 29, 2018.

In the audit carried out to the airline LAW Airlines, it has revealed revealing reports and serious abnormalities to the operative norms. The DGAC has disclosed that the airline did not have insurance (or would be due) for the operation of the assigned routes, and there are faults in the training of the crew. According to the document revealed, LAW Airlines did not operate insurance for the planes, among them the lack of third-party liability insurance for passengers, passengers and crew. This means that the company was exposed to very serious faults, security failures and irregularities to the contraventions to the current flight rules in Chile. Another failure of the airline is the lack of training of its crew to face illegal acts or terrorist attacks. In addition, the case of a pilot who did not have the current type ratings for Boeing 737-300 aircraft was recorded. As detailed in the document, the company designated a flight from 1 March 2018 to a pilot, without ascertaining the expiration of its authorizations. The airline LAW Airlines had not made the aeronautical rate payments, could not prove the disbursement of these values that allow it to use the airport and the air navigation services in its operations. The report also revealed debts in salaries in the months between January to March 2018, and the lack of non-compliance with the reports of the airline’s financial statements. Another requirement not met is having an Aeronautical Maintenance Center (CMA). These establishments are equipped to make the maintenance of the aircraft, and as detailed in the report: «the air operator does not have its own and independent CMA approved or recognized by the DGAC».

Cancellation of the AOC

The measure of the Chilean DGAC has allowed five Boeing 737-300 aircraft to be left on the ground. The authority definitively revoked the Air Operator Certificate (AOC), given the breaches of technical regulations issued by the audit carried out between 20 and 29 March 2018. In the opinion of the DGAC, the lack of compliance with these requirements affected the safety of air operations.

The document issued by the 60-page DGAC of Chile, evidences the serious irregularities that affected an airline and, on the other hand, the lack of control by all the aviation organizations involved, exposing the very serious faults in both sectors.

The case of the flight DMJ-792 of Global Air exposes the serious faults to the breach of the security regulations. The operations of the Mexican airline Global Air, which provided services as a wet-lease to Cubana de Aviación, were suspended so that the Mexican aeronautical authorities could carry out inspections of the planes it rents after the tragedy in Cuba.

The recent report of the DGAC of Chile clearly demonstrates the recurrent lack of agencies to monitor airlines seriously exposing users to attack security. The case of LAW Airlines with slight consequences; the case of Global Air, a fatal descendant. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

UTAir ATR-72 Emergency

An ATR-72 of the Russian airline UTAir suffers technical failures in engine, lands without problems in Russia

The expertise of two Russian pilots allowed a ATR-72-212A UTair plane, which suffered a technical problem of one of its turbines in full flight between cities of Yekaterinburg and Tyumen on Friday, could make a smooth landing in the airport of the latter city.

According to Rosaviatsia (Russian Federal Agency of air transport), during the landing there was a failure in the operation of one of the engines. «As a result, smoke from the superheated oil entered the passenger cabin through the air conditioning system,» which was soon replaced with clean air», said Rosaviatsia.

None of the engines caught fire

Rosaviatsia has stressed that none of the engines of the aircraft caught fire and the situation was under the absolute control of the crew, which is able to carry out a landing with a single engine running.

For its part, the airline UTair has also commented on the incident, underlining that the information about a fire on board said plane is false. «The crew acted according to the instructions and landed the aircraft in normal mode, the aircraft went independently to the parking lot, passengers left the ship by the stairs, without the use of emergency devices», they said from the airline. In addition, they have indicated that together with the Russian aviation authorities an investigation is being carried out to check whether an alien object entered the engine during the landing.

On board the apparatus there were about 70 Peruvian fans, who along with the rest of the occupants arrived safely at their destination. The fans had been in Yekaterinburg supporting their national team in the match that ended on Thursday for them with defeat against France. They flew to Tyumen to make a transfer and continue towards Moscow. A \ W
