El mercado aéreo uruguayo no logra despegar después de años de problemas financieros, primero con la quebrada PLUNA, luego con BQB Líneas Aéreas y terminando con los problemas financieros con Alas Uruguay, ahora se asoma un inversionista para competir con Amaszonas Uruguay, el único operador que sigue volando en la República Oriental del Uruguay.

La aerolínea chilena LAW (Latin American Wings) es la empresa que hoy muestra el interés más firme por alcanzar algún tipo de acuerdo con la empresa Alas Uruguay que suspendió sus operaciones la semana pasada.

La compañía chilena había presentado el viernes una carta intención de negocio, según publicó El País. Ahora pretende continuar adelante con las conversaciones y se prevé que mañana arriben a Montevideo representantes de la empresa para mantener nuevas reuniones con el directorio de Alas Uruguay y con autoridades del Poder Ejecutivo, entre ellos el ministro de Transporte y Obras Públicas, Víctor Rossi, según informaron a El Observador fuentes al tanto del proceso.

LAW inició su actividad en enero de este año con un Boeing 737-300 y tiene vuelos a Lima y Punta Cana. Meses después se quedó con dos de los tres aviones arrendados que componían la flota de Alas Uruguay. Entre las posibilidades manejadas está que la aerolínea chilena adquiera las acciones de la empresa uruguaya, que funciona como sociedad anónima (Dyrus S.A.) y se haga cargo de sus deudas.

Un atractivo de peso está en el potencial creciente que tiene el puente aéreo entre Montevideo y Buenos Aires durante todo el año, así como la ruta entre Punta del Este y la capital argentina en los meses de verano.

En paralelo a la difícil tarea de encontrar apoyo económico, las autoridades de Alas Uruguay tienen otro reto nada menor que es tratar de retener el último avión en condiciones de volar. Esa aeronave puede jugar un papel clave si en su plan de negocios el nuevo inversor aspira a estar operativo en la temporada de verano. Para eso sería de utilidad contar con un avión ya autorizado, teniendo en cuenta que los tiempos que se manejan para las certificaciones superan ampliamente los dos meses.

La temporada representa una buena tajada del negocio aeronáutico, en particular en esa ruta. Por eso es determinante estar operativo para esas fechas para la supervivencia de la aerolínea.
