El fabricante brasileño de aviones Embraer anunció este martes que firmó un contrato por 1.080 millones de dólares con United Airlines para venderle 24 jets E175 como «transferencia» de una compra que le había hecho la maltrecha compañía estadounidense Republic Airways Holdings.

En un comunicado, la empresa informó que la orden que había efectuado Republic será cancelada y que las 24 aeronaves están programadas para su entrega a United en 2017. La operación constará en los resultados del cuarto trimestre de este año.

Republic Airways, que opera vuelos para Delta, United y American Airlines y es operador de la mayor flota mundial de E-Jets, se declaró en concurso de acreedores en febrero.

Embraer es el tercer mayor fabricante de aviones comerciales del mundo, detrás del estadounidense Boeing y el europeo Airbus. En el tercer trimestre de 2016, la compañía brasileña reportó pérdidas por 33,7 millones de dólares, reduciendo los perjuicios que registró en el trimestre anterior e igual periodo de 2015. 

Embraer signs contract with United Airlines to transfer Republic jets

Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer said on Tuesday it had signed a $ 1.08 billion contract with United Airlines to sell 24 E175 jets as a «transfer» of a purchase made by the battered US company Republic Airways Holdings.

In a statement, the company said that Republic’s order will be canceled and that the 24 aircraft are scheduled to be delivered to United in 2017. The operation will be included in the results of the fourth quarter of this year.

Republic Airways, which operates flights to Delta, United and American Airlines and is operator of the world’s largest E-Jets fleet, filed for bankruptcy in February.
