United Airlines está cambiando su Boeing 747 volando a nuevos aviones de fuselaje ancho, incluyendo los modelos Boeing 787 Dreamliner y Boeing 777 que la compañía aérea ha ordenado. Los 747 de la flota de United , todas las variantes del jet B747-400   transportan a 374 pasajeros.

El actual Boeing 777-200s de United ocupa 266 a 364 pasajeros, según las distintas configuraciones que tiene para el avión. Los modelos 787-8 y 787-9 Dreamliner de United tienen 219 y 252 pasajeros, respectivamente.

Delta Air Lines es el único otro operador de los Estados Unidos que actualmente usa 747 para el servicio de pasajeros. Al igual que United, Delta también ha comenzado a eliminar gradualmente sus modelos del jet. El transportista está en el registro como diciendo que espera retirar su último 747 para el final del próximo año.

El portavoz de Delta, Morgan Durrant, dijo a Today in the Sky que la aerolínea espera tener cinco 747-400s en servicio a fines de 2016. Delta usará varios modelos para reemplazar sus 747. Incluyen nuevos Airbus A330 que ya están siendo entregados al transportista, así como nuevos Airbus A350 que Delta espera comenzar a recibir el próximo año. 

United: Boeing 747s to be retired by October 2018

United Airlines is shifting its Boeing 747 flying to newer widebody jets, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Boeing 777 models that the carrier has ordered. The 747s in United’s fleet – all 747-400 variants of the jet – seat 374 passengers.

United’s current Boeing 777-200s seat anywhere from 266 to 364 passengers, based on the various configurations it has for the aircraft. United’s 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliner models seat 219 and 252 passengers, respectively.

Delta Air Lines is the only other U.S. carrier that currently uses 747s for passenger service. Like United, Delta also has begun to phase out its models of the jet. The carrier is on record as saying it expects to retire its last 747 by the end of next year.

Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant tells Today in the Sky that the airline expects to have five 747-400s remaining in service by the end of 2016. Delta will use several models to replace its 747s. They include new Airbus A330s that already are being delivered to the carrier as well as new Airbus A350s that Delta expects to begin receiving next year. A\W
