New Leaf Airlines expanding services out of Calgary

Sunshine and warmer temperatures at a lower cost will soon be made available to Calgary travellers looking to get to Phoenix.

Canada’s newest low-fare airline New Leaf announcing Wednesday that it will begin a route from YYC Calgary International to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. People can book their trips now with service starting on January 19th, 2017.

The move follows a recent decision by the airline to begin offering service to Abbotsford and Hamilton from Calgary over the holidays. President and CEO Jim Young says they’re excited about a move that represents their first foray to a sun destination in the United States.

“The second thing that’s good about it is we’re sending customers to an airport that a lot of second homeowners in the Alberta region are actually closer to and this will make it more convenient for them and of course we’re doing this with our ultra-low fares and convenient simple service.” Young says they don’t want to make travel just affordable for those in the smaller cities and says there are a lot of disenfranchised travellers in hub cities who can’t afford to fly.

He says the response to their airline has been so great in the southern Alberta area that they believe they can carry it through and remain a sustainable force at YYC. “I think we could possibly be putting more out for the summer as well, it’s Canada’s 150th birthday and we think it’s a great way for people to get out and see the country.”

“You’ve got a great new international building and that extra terminal space gives a lot of room for growth and we’re hoping to be part of that.” A\W
