En el marco de la ceremonia de colocación de la primera piedra, Copa Airlines, CPA subsidiaria de Copa Holdings S. A, y miembro de la red global de aerolíneas Star Alliance, dio inicio formal a la obra de construcción de su nuevo y moderno Centro de mantenimiento técnico especializado, que entrará en funcionamiento el segundo semestre del 2018. Con la edificación de su nuevo hangar de mantenimiento, la empresa multinacional panameña ratifica su compromiso con el desarrollo de Panamá, generando mayores oportunidades de empleo y fortaleciendo la industria aérea en el país y la región.

El Presidente Ejecutivo de Copa Airlines, Pedro Heilbron, mencionó: “Es motivo de gran orgullo anunciar la construcción de un moderno hangar de mantenimiento, toda vez que implica un importante paso para fortalecer nuestro liderazgo en la región, mientras mejoramos nuestro servicio de clase mundial e impulsamos el desarrollo de la industria de la aviación nacional, elevando los estándares de mantenimiento e ingeniería aérea y ofreciendo más empleo al país. También, es pieza fundamental para aprovechar de la forma más eficiente, las oportunidades que se abren con la nueva Terminal del Aeropuerto Internacional de Tocumen y la entrega de la orden de los 67 nuevos Boeing 737MAX, que comenzarán a llegar en el transcurso del 2018”.

Con una inversión que asciende a los 15 millones de dólares, esta importante obra tendrá la capacidad para realizar mantenimientos mayores a tres (3) aeronaves de la flota de aviones de Copa Airlines, tipo Boeing 737 y Embraer 190, de forma simultánea. También poseerá más talleres de mantenimiento; bodegas y depósitos de repuestos; amplias salas de capacitación y entrenamiento, entre otras áreas de trabajo que permitirán lograr la máxima eficiencia y productividad.

El moderno diseño, amigable con el medio ambiente, también permitirá el mejor aprovechamiento de la luz del día, al tiempo que contará con modernos sistemas de iluminación, que contribuirán al ahorro energético reduciendo el impacto ambiental de las operaciones diarias.

El nuevo Centro de mantenimiento de Copa Airlines, que cumple las regulaciones y estándares de la Federal Aviation Administration de Estados Unidos (FAA) y de la Aeronáutica Civil de Panamá (AAC), cubrirá un área total de 10,300 metros cuadrados, que incluyen: un área especial para el hangar y oficinas con 5.900 metros cuadrados, almacenes de repuestos con 2.400 metros cuadrados y áreas abiertas y de circulación con 1.700 metros cuadrados. Por su parte, el hangar tendrá un ancho de 92 m. y una altura de 22.50 m.

Entre los servicios que ofrecerá, además del mantenimiento mayor de sus aeronaves, Copa Airlines podrá fortalecer y ampliar trabajos clave como mantenimientos livianos, instalación de winglets (dispositivos de punta alar), reemplazo de trenes de aterrizaje, pintura de aeronaves, entre otras labores técnicas especializadas.

Se proyecta que en el trascurso de los siguientes 3 años, el nuevo hangar genere de forma sostenida más de 250 plazas de empleo para técnicos e ingenieros de aviación, las cuales, en su mayoría, serán cubiertas por mano de obra panameña.
