Washington vetará dispositivos electrónicos en vuelos con destino a EE.UU. de diez aerolíneas

Estados Unidos planea prohibir los dispositivos electrónicos en los vuelos de una decena de compañías aéreas extranjeras con destino al país norteamericano, informa Reuters, que cita fuentes del Gobierno estadounidense.

Según una fuente de la agencia, la medida irá dirigida contra dispositivos electrónicos de gran tamaño, incluidos portátiles, tabletas, juegos electrónicos y cámaras.

La fuente señaló que la prohibición de dispositivos de gran tamaño, mayores que un teléfono celular, no afecta a las compañías aéreas estadounidenses. El veto a los dispositivos electrónicos en vuelos extranjeros tiene que ver con una amenaza por terrorismo no determinada, según un funcionario del Gobierno norteamericano.

Una fuente de la CNN señaló que aerolíneas que vuelan a EE.UU. desde ciertos países del Oriente Medio y África deben exigir a los pasajeros que facturen casi todos los dispositivos electrónicos en lugar de llevarlos consigo. Asimismo, otra fuente indica que el veto a algunos aparatos electrónicos está relacionado con el grupo terrorista Al Qaeda en la Península Arábiga (AQAP por sus siglas en inglés).

Sin embargo, ninguna de las fuentes especifica qué aerolíneas se verán afectadas, más allá de Royal Jordanian Airlines, que este lunes anunció en un tuit que prohibirá la mayoría de dispositivos electrónicos en sus vuelos hacia y desde América del Norte.

Se espera que el nuevo decreto sea anunciado el próximo martes por el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional de EE.UU.

However, neither source specifies which airlines will be affected, beyond Royal Jordanian Airlines, which this Monday announced in a tweet that will ban most electronic devices on flights to and from North America.
