27º edición de World Travel Award 2020
La 27º World Travel Award la iniciativa global para reconocer y recompensar la excelencia en viajes y turismo ha anunciado que sus ganadores de Europa 2020 coincidan con su día inaugural de Europa. Los resultados siguen a una búsqueda de un año de las principales marcas de viajes, turismo y hostelería del mundo. Los votos fueron emitidos por profesionales de la industria de viajes y el público, con el candidato ganando la mayor cantidad de votos en una categoría nombrada como ganadora. Graham Cooke, Fundador de World Travel Awards, dice: “Nuestros ganadores representan lo mejor del sector de los viajes y el turismo de Europa y mis felicitaciones a cada uno de ellos. Todos ellos han demostrado una notable resiliencia en un año de desafíos sin precedentes. El programa World Travel Awards 2020 recibió un número récord de votos emitidos por el público. Esto demuestra que el apetito por los viajes y el turismo nunca ha sido más fuerte y es un buen augurio para el futuro de la industria a medida que comienza la recuperación global”.
Entre los ganadores incluyen Portugal, que defendió la dura competencia para emerger como «Destino líder de Europa», mientras que el esplendor imperial de Moscú fue reconocido con premios por «El principal destino de la ciudad de Europa» y «Destino del patrimonio líder de Europa». Las islas de Portugal disfrutaron de excelentes actuaciones, con Madeira elegida «Destino insular líder en Europa» y Azores nombrada «El principal destino turístico de aventura de Europa». El centro de atención también brilló en la localidad costera de Batumi, Georgia, denominada «El principal destino turístico emergente de Europa». En el sector de la hostelería, el Palacio Kempinski de La araan, Estambul fue votado como «Elounda’s Leading Hotel», Elounda Beach Hotel & Villas, Grecia ganó ‘Europe’s Leading Beach Resort» y el Forte Village Resort de Cerdeña levantó el título de «El Resort Líder de Europa». Italia también tuvo una fuerte presentación en las categorías de recién llegados, recogiendo tanto el «Nuevo Hotel Líder de Europa» para Palazzo Doglio como el «Nuevo Resort Líder de Europa» para Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti.

Premios a aerolíneas
Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA ha sido reconocida como la «Aerolínea de bajo coste líder en Europa» por sexto año consecutivo en la 27 edición anual de los World Travel Awards, uno de los premios más prestigiosos de la industria del transporte y el turismo. Estos premios se establecieron en 1993 para reconocer, recompensar y celebrar la excelencia en todos los sectores clave de la industria y son reconocidos a nivel mundial como el principal sello de excelencia de ésta. A lo largo de 2020, Norwegian lanzó una nueva estrategia de sostenibilidad medioambiental que tendrá como principales objetivos reducir las emisiones de CO2 en un 45% para 2030, eliminar todos los plásticos no reciclables y reciclar todos los plásticos de un solo uso para 2023. Además ha sido la primera aerolínea en firmar el compromiso de la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático (CMNUCC), comprometiéndose así en alcanzar la neutralidad climática para 2050. Norwegian también fue reconocida como la «Aerolínea de bajo coste líder en Europa» en los World Travel Awards como la aerolínea más eficiente en el uso de combustible en rutas transatlánticas en 2015 y de nuevo en 2018, por parte del Consejo Internacional de Transporte Limpio (ICCT). Desde 2010, la aerolínea ha reducido sus emisiones en un 28%. En 2019, Norwegian Air fue elegida como la «Mejor aerolínea de bajo coste de Europa» por sexto año consecutivo en los SkyTrax World Airline Awards.

The 27th World Travel Award the global initiative to recognize and reward excellence in travel and tourism has announced that its Europe 2020 winners coincide with its opening day for Europe. The results follow a year-long search of the world’s top travel, tourism and hospitality brands. Votes were cast by travel industry professionals and the public, with the candidate winning the most votes in a category named as the winner. Graham Cooke, Founder of the World Travel Awards, says: “Our winners represent the best of Europe’s travel and tourism industry and my congratulations to each of them. They have all demonstrated remarkable resilience in a year of unprecedented challenges. The World Travel Awards 2020 program received a record number of votes cast by the public. This shows that the appetite for travel and tourism has never been stronger and bodes well for the future of the industry as the global recovery”.
Winners include Portugal, which defended stiff competition to emerge as “Europe’s Leading Destination”, while Moscow’s Imperial Splendor was recognized with awards for “Europe’s Leading City Destination” and “Europe’s Leading Heritage Destination. Europe”. The islands of Portugal enjoyed excellent performances, with Madeira voted “Europe’s Leading Island Destination” and Azores named “Europe’s Top Adventure Travel Destination”. The spotlight also shone on the seaside town of Batumi, Georgia, dubbed “Europe’s Top Emerging Tourist Destination”. In the hospitality sector, Kempinski Palace in La Araan, Istanbul was voted “Elounda’s Leading Hotel”, Elounda Beach Hotel & Villas, Greece won “Europe’s Leading Beach Resort” and Sardinia’s Forte Village Resort lifted the title of “Europe’s Leading Resort”. Airline Awards
Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA has been recognized as “Europe’s Leading Low Cost Airline” for the sixth consecutive year at the 27th annual World Travel Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in the transport and tourism industry. These awards were established in 1993 to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in all key sectors of the industry and are recognized worldwide as the industry’s premier seal of excellence. Throughout 2020, Norwegian launched a new environmental sustainability strategy that will have as its main objectives to reduce CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030, eliminate all non-recyclable plastics and recycle all single-use plastics by 2023. In addition has been the first airline to sign the commitment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), thus committing to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Norwegian was also recognized as the “Leading Low Cost Airline in Europe” in the World Travel Awards as the most fuel efficient airline on transatlantic routes in 2015 and again in 2018, by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). Since 2010, the airline has reduced its emissions by 28%. In 2019, Norwegian Air was voted “Europe’s Best Low-Cost Airline” for the sixth consecutive year at the SkyTrax World Airline Awards.
