Detalles del nuevo grupo aéreo en Latinoamérica
Los accionistas de Avianca Airlines y GOL Linhas Aéreas acordaron crear una estructura de holding denominada Abra Group Limited, que esperan los ayude a posicionar a estas compañías como líderes en el mercado aéreo de América Latina. La movida está sujeta a las aprobaciones de los entes reguladores, pero se espera que reciba luz verde para el segundo semestre del año 2022. El tablero de ajedrez de las aerolíneas en Latinoamérica se está moviendo en la post-pandemia que ha golpeado la rentabilidad y las ha obligado a realizar reorganizaciones, alianzas y fusiones para no morir en el intento. Bajo ese escenario se conoció la nueva jugada de Avianca para reducir costos y consolidar su operación en el mercado aéreo internacional, un nuevo holding regional junto a la compañía brasileña GOL.
Las aerolíneas mantendrían sus marcas, talentos y equipos de manera independiente. El Grupo Abra también informó, a través de un comunicado de prensa, que tendría una inversión minoritaria en la aerolínea Sky Airline en Chile, lo que podría dar señales de otra posible expansión de Avianca a través de una unión con la low cost chilena. Avianca asegura que este nuevo holding beneficiará a los clientes a través de un fuerte programa de lealtad y una estructura de costos más eficiente que permitiría precios bajos, una red de rutas que promovería la conectividad directa entre destinos, conexiones prácticas, más destinos y más frecuencias de vuelos.
La nueva estrategia de Avianca se suma al anuncio, de hace menos de un mes, en el que informaba su compra del 100% de las acciones de Viva Air, la aerolínea de bajo costo que opera en Colombia. Esto implica que esa compañía también estará bajo el paraguas del grupo, que tendrá los derechos económicos de las operaciones de Viva en Colombia y Perú, aunque no la controlaría.
Por lo pronto, se supo que las tres aerolíneas Avianca, GOL y SKY mantendrán sus marcas, talento y equipos de manera independiente. “Nuestra visión es crear un grupo de aerolíneas capaz de enfrentar los desafíos del siglo XXI y que mejore la experiencia de volar para nuestros clientes, empleados, aliados y comunidades en donde operamos”, dijo Roberto Kriete, el mayor accionista de Avianca y quien ahora será el Presidente de la Junta Directiva del Grupo Abra.
Avianca, que tiene más de 102 años de operaciones continuas, es líder en Colombia, Ecuador y Centroamérica. La compañía informa que opera 130 rutas, 3.800 vuelos semanales y una flota de 110 aviones Airbus 320 y Boeing 787 Dreamliner, con conexión a alrededor de 65 destinos tanto en América como Europa. GOL Líneas Aéreas es la aerolínea más grande de Brasil y líder en los segmentos corporativo y de ocio. Desde que se fundó en 2001, ha sido una aerolínea de bajo costo. Hoy, informa la empresa, opera una flota estandarizada de 142 aviones Boeing 737 para atender 157 rutas, 11 de ellas internacionales. Viva Air tiene 23 aviones Airbus A320. Esta cifra sumada a los 142 de GOL y los 110 de Avianca serían 275, lo que acerca al grupo a los 335 aviones operados por LATAM Airlines, que aún sigue liderando el mercado en cuanto a número de aeronaves. Además de que tiene la flota más grande, LATAM Airlines seguiría siendo la líder de la región por su participación en el mercado latino que es de 15,3%, mientras que la cuota de GOL y de Avianca es de 10,1%. Sin embargo, para entender el alcance del nuevo grupo, hay que destacar que Abra entraría a formar parte del top 20 de las aerolíneas más importantes del mundo, teniendo en cuenta que American Airlines tiene 965 aviones y la número 20 que es Air France tiene 206 unidades.
