AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The ING Economic Office’s research shows that the airport ranks third on the list of the one hundred largest international airports in Europe. The survey included the 100 largest European airports that processed at least fifty percent more passengers between 2012 and 2017.

European ranking

First of all, Keflavik Airport is located in Iceland. Both Icelandair and the main competitor WOW Air opened one route after another in recent years. Foreign airlines also managed to find the airport well. The second place is occupied by Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport, after the Ataturk Airport, the largest airport around the Turkish metropolis. Many holiday companies and price fighters were responsible for the growth there. The Eindhoven Airport is in third place. In 2006, the airport passed Rotterdam The Hague Airport as the largest regional airport in the Netherlands. The accelerated growth of recent years was used because Transavia Airlines extended the holiday flight offer from the North Brabant airport and the growing activities of the Ryanair and Wizz Air price fighters. Europese ranglijst

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Inspections continue CFM56-7

Resultado de imagen para CFMGeneral Electric continues to make revisions to CFM56-7 engine vanes

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the US will hold a research hearing on November 14, 2018 focused on the CFM international engine model that involved a failure of an in-flight engine earlier this year in a Boeing 737 -700 Southwest Airlines.

General Electric reported one of the two companies that owns the engine producer, said Friday that a handful of problematic fan blades have been removed during the most stringent inspections that followed Southwest’s accident in April. A small number of fan blades with cracks similar to those said to have caused the fatal accident of Southwest Airlines have been found on other airlines and the engine manufacturer considers recommending more frequent inspections.

The one-day hearing at the boardhouse in Washington DC will consider the CFM56-7 series fan blade design and development history; inspection methods and procedures of the fan blade; and the design and certification criteria for the containment of the fan blade, announced the NTSB on July 24, 2018.

Investigations SW1380

The pilots of Southwest Airlines Flight SW1380 made an emergency landing at the Philadelphia International Airport on April 17, 2018 after the Boeing 737 left the CFM56-7B engine, which caused the depressurization of the cabin. One of the 144 passengers on board died and eight passengers suffered minor injuries. The NTSB investigators who responded to the scene discovered that one of the 24 blades of the titanium alloy fan was missing from the damaged engine, and there was evidence of fatigue of the metal where the blade separated. The airline’s Chief Operating Officer, Mike Van de Ven, said he is aware of perhaps four or five reports of cracked blades on other airlines.

Airworthiness Directives

As a result of the accident, the FAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued emergency airworthiness directives that require inspections of the fans. «This was the first fatal accident involving a US Part 121 airline in almost 10 years», said John DeLisi, Director of the Air Safety Bureau of the NTSB. «This hearing will be an important part of determining why this tragedy occurred and will provide researchers with important data on the engine fan blade and the design and certification of the engine input».

The blades are analyzed as part of the investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the SW1380 accident of Southwest Airlines where a woman died after being partially ejected through a broken window when her plane was flying at 10,000 meters (32,000 feet) above the ground. The security council has scheduled a hearing for the November 14 accident. 2018

Earlier in the week, the agency said that at the hearing it will examine the design of the blades and inspections. It will also analyze the measures to prevent broken parts from becoming deadly splinters, as happened on the Southwest flight.

CFM International is a joint venture between GE and Safran SA of France. GE spokesman Rick Kennedy said about 150,000 blades were inspected after the Southwest accident. The inspections focused on motor blades that had made a large number of flights and are considered to be a greater risk of fatigue of the metal formation of cracks visible by use. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

US airlines do not join the Taiwan-China agreement

Most US airlines that fly to China did not adhere to China’s protocol for Taiwan

Chinese regulators appear to have rejected a possible attempt by US airlines to reach a compromise on Beijing’s demand to call Taiwan a ruling part of China, an order Washington opposed.

The regulator of China’s airlines has reported that United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Hawaiian Airlines did not report the relevant changes on Wednesday, the deadline to modify their websites, while other forty airlines obeyed. US airlines made some changes «but the rectification of the content is still incomplete,» the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) reported on its website. Beijing demanded that airlines call the capital of Taiwan, «Taipei, China.» Three of the US operators UU Quoted by CAAC they went on to say only Taipei, without any country, on their websites. Other destinations have names of cities and countries.

China has pressed through its growing economic influence to isolate the democratically elected government of Taiwan. In the midst of an escalating trade dispute, many airlines were forced to change the map of China and Taiwan to continue flying.

Taiwan and China separated in 1949 after a civil war in the continent, but Beijing claims that the island, formally known as the Republic of China, is part of its territory. A \ W

Eclipse Lunar y la aviación

AW-70000888.jpg

AW | 2018 07 27 17:23 | AW AEROSPACE SCIENCE / SPOTTING

G = 6.673 × 10E-11 N · (m / kg) 2
me = 5.97219 × 10E24kg (masa de la tierra)
mp = 400,000 kg (masa del avión)
mm = 0.07342 × 10E24kg (masa de la luna)

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Lunar Eclipse and aviation

An Embraer E-145 plane approaching the Los Angeles International Airport intersects in front of the «Super Red Moon», an event that occurs when the full moon reaches the part of its path closest to Earth.

How will the next eclipse affect aviation, and should the crew and passengers take precautions?

It will be a bit strange, but it has no practical technical effect on aviation. My biggest concern would be to get caught at the wrong time when the light level changes rapidly, which could cause some disorientation. I would definitely be equipped for the night flight, just in case, which is not a problem for most planes. Pilots who have flown enough hours are used to rapid changes in visibility and light conditions, so they do not (hopefully) cause real problems. The best thing is just to be attentive and be prepared. Being caught by surprise is never a good thing.

Are the planes affected by the gravity of the moon?

The gravitational force of the moon and the earth acts on the plane.
Note that the force of gravity is proportional to the mass and inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the plane to the earth and the moon.

The gravitational force is given by: F = G * m * mp / sqr (d). Where G is the constant of gravity, m is the mass of the earth or moon, mp is the mass of the planet, d is the distance between the plane and the earth (moon respectively) are centered.

The specific numbers are:
G = 6.673 × 10E-11 N · (m / kg) 2
me = 5.97219 × 10E24kg (mass of the earth)
mp = 400,000 kg (mass of the plane)
mm = 0.07342 × 10E24kg (mass of the moon)
dem = 3.84 x 10E8 meters (distance from the plane to the center of the moon)
dpe = 6.363 x 10E6 (distance from the plane to the center of the moon)

A quick inspection shows that the force exerted on the plane by the Earth is approximately 297,000 times greater than that of the moon in the plane. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Airbus challenge deliveries of 800 aircraft

Airbus is striving to reach the goal of 800 deliveries

Airbus_Group_Logo_2014.svg

Airbus warned that reaching its goal for 800 aircraft deliveries this year will be a challenge, even if intermediate gains were better than expected.

Tom Enders, Executive Director, said he would maintain the goal of delivering 800 aircraft, despite this year’s problems with the Pratt & Whitney gear motor that drives the popular single aisle A320NEO. «We have a lot on our plate in the second half, our main priority is to make our deliveries and reach the 800 number. I am still cautiously optimistic that we can face this challenge», the executive said.

The head of Airbus said that Pratt & Whitney had accelerated deliveries of the gear turbine. This gave him confidence that the overall delivery goal could be met. «As of today, we are quite optimistic that we will have the engines running by the end of 3Q2018 for all the planes we want to deliver», he said.

Airbus has been forced to intensify deliveries of the A320CEO variant of the previous generation to compensate for the deficit in the reconditioned A320NEO reactors. In May, some 100 aircraft parked on the runway at the Airbus factory in Toulouse waiting for their engines. This had dropped to around 80 at the end of June, he said.

Pratt & Whitney said last week at the Farnborough Air Show that it was now fulfilling its obligations to Airbus, although the schedule had to be revised earlier this year due to new problems in the program.

Earnings of Airbus Group

Meanwhile, Airbus surprised on the upside with a lower free cash flow than expected despite the accumulation of A320NEO’s inventory, thanks to improved costs in its mid-range A350 jet program. The outflow of € 3.9bn, up from € 2.1bn, was € 1bn better than expected, according to the Berenberg Investment Bank.

It also delivered better-than-expected earnings before interest and taxes, adjusted for movements of foreign currency, provision charges and restructuring of € 1.2bn for the first six months. This was approximately 16% ahead of consensus and more than double € 553 million last year.

Semester revenues through June 2018 remained stable at € 25,000 million, which Airbus said reflected the mix of commercial aircraft delivery, the sale of units in its helicopter and defense business and the weakening of the US dollar.

On a legal basis, net income fell 55%, to € 496m, while consolidated EBIT was € 1.12bn, including the increase in provisions of € 98m for the A400M program and a net capital gain of € 157m for sales of units in their defense and space businesses, among other things. The A220 would have a negative effect on the adjusted EBIT for the whole year, the company said, taking the measure from around € 5.2bn to € 5bn. About 18 A220 must be delivered in the second half, he said. A \ W
