Regulador SACAA suspende vuelos Comair en Sudáfrica

AW-Comair_(South_Africa)__Isologoty.wine

South Africa suspends Comair flights

Regulator SACAA suspends Comair flights in South Africa

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has grounded all Comair and Kulula Airlines flights in South Africa. In a statement on Saturday, March 12, 2022, Comair said its Kulula and British Airways flights have been suspended, with the grounding expected to last twenty-four hours. Comair Limited is an airline based in South Africa that operates scheduled services on domestic routes as a franchise of British Airways. It also operates as the low-cost airline under its own Kulula brand.

«Comair regrets that our flights have been suspended by the CAA for 24 hours. This will affect British Airways (operated by Comair) so much. Our executive team is engaging with the CAA on an urgent basis. Comair believes there is no justification for the suspension. All passengers booked for Saturday March 12, 2022 are advised not to travel to the airport unless they can make a reservation on an alternate airline Comair deeply regrets any inconvenience caused and we are doing everything we can to restore our operations as soon as possible. as soon as possible. All updates will be posted on our social media channels as they become available», the airline said in a statement.

A spokesman for civil aviation authority SACAA said the grounding was due to safety concerns surrounding Comair’s planes. «This decision was made after an investigation into the recent series of security incidents at the operator. This is a preventive suspension for a period of 24 hours, within which the operator must demonstrate to the regulator that the risk management systems and safety are effective in managing potential hazards», said the South African aviation agency.

Comair entered business rescue in May 2020 after the pandemic decimated the airline and travel industry. He resumed flying in December 2020, while on business rescue. Subsequently, it has been forced to start and stop the flight several times in the last eighteen months due to the ongoing confinement restrictions.

FAA ultima AD Boeing 777

AW | 2022 03 11 08:00 | AVIATION ORGANISMS / AVIATION SAFETY

Aprueban Boeing 777 después de fallas asa ventiladores

FAA-Isologotype

FAA finalizes AD Boeing 777

Boeing 777 approved after fan handle failure

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on Wednesday 03/09 that it is finalizing the Airworthiness Directives (AD) to require the strengthening of a key part of the power plant in Boeing 777 aircraft with Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines such as the one involved in an emergency landing in February 2021 of United Airlines flight UA328. The FAA proposed the directives in December 2021 after three reported in-flight fan blade failures.

An airworthiness directive requires the installation of debris shields on the inside wall of the thrust reverser, inspection of the fan hood doors for moisture ingress, and repetitive checks of the hydraulic pump shutoff valves.

A United Airlines PW4000 engine failed shortly after flight UA328 took off from Denver in February 2021, sending debris flying over nearby cities, but no one was injured and the plane returned to the airport safely. The Federal Aviation Administration said it is finalizing safety directives aimed at repairing Pratt & Whitney 4000 engines on some grounded Boeing 777 planes that will allow them to return to service after being grounded for more than a year.

Reunión bandas tarifarias Argentina

AW | 2022 03 10 18:13 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT / AVIATION ORGANISMS

Meeting tariff bands Argentina

First meeting airlines-Government
Low-cost criticized while Airlines defended them

The hearing held this Wednesday 03/09 at the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) headquarters between the Government and the airlines to establish guidelines for the implementation of Decree No. 879/2021 that enables the modification of the minimum and maximum fare bands in the cabotage air tickets, the airlines set their positions on the rule changes for the sector established by the decree signed in December 2021.

This Wednesday 03/09, the first of a series of meetings planned between the Government and the airlines that carry out domestic flights and the entities that bring together the companies took place. It was a meeting that aimed to gather opinions from the parties. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the ANAC, with the participation of the National Ministry of Transport. It was headed by Álvaro Errea, head of the Cabinet of Advisors of the Ministry of Transport, and Paola Tamburelli, head of ANAC. The airlines that operate flights within Argentina attended: Aerolineas Argentinas, JetSmart Airlines Argentina, Flybondi Air Lines, Avian Air Lines (operator of the Avianca brand), Andes Air Lines and American Jet Air Lines. In addition, the associations that represent the companies, such as the Chamber of Air Companies in Argentina (JURCA), the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) were convened. Although they highlighted that it was a meeting with a collaborative spirit and agreed to continue deepening the analysis of the situation, each actor presented his point of view. In this way, Aerolíneas Argentinas defended the commercial aviation policy promoted by the Alberto Fernández Administration, while the low cost airlines were the ones that defended the non-application of the norm.

«It provides reasonableness and sustainability to a system that comes from extreme liberalization. It seems productive to us that all airlines can sit down at a table, because, beyond the competition that may exist, we are all interested in the development of the market. The industry has been recovering significantly and this benefits all companies», they commented from the flag line at the end of the meeting. The position of the budget airlines expressed that the imposition of fare bands artificially increases the prices of the tickets, until they are equalized between the different operators, to the detriment of the users.

Flybondi Líneas Aéreas defended that the decree limits the development of the commercial airline market, with the impossibility of increasing the number of domestic frequencies. Meanwhile, JetSmart Argentina raised the need to eliminate measures that restrict growth, since «greater regulations are harmful».

The meeting took place in a cordial setting, they expressed and shared the points of view of the different parties. Although there are differences in the issues on the agenda, they will remain open to dialogue and the solid construction of an airline industry. The negotiations for the reestablishment of the fare bands on domestic flights that the Government of Argentina established should begin to take effect in June 2022.

Chile pide levantar restricciones

AW | 2022 03 08 12:40| AVIATION ORGANISMS / AIRPORTS

Chile asks to lift restrictions

Airlines ask to suspend restrictions on the entry of tourists

The Chilean Association of Airlines requested the elimination of restrictions on the entry of tourists and the taking of PCRs makes the procedures at the Santiago/SCL Airport cumbersome. The taking of PCRs has caused collapses due to high demand and, according to the union, it can be suspended given the current health situation. Cristóbal Lea-Plaza, Secretary General of the Chilean Airline Association, pointed out that «the vaccination approval process is very slow, very cumbersome for tourists. Having to do this process takes a few days. Therefore, it does not deliver the necessary certainty for tourists to be able to enter Chile».

Manuel Valencia, spokesperson for Nuevo Pudahuel, the Santiago Airport concession company, pointed out that «there is space to implement a measure such as random control of passengers».

Mandato Federal EEUU uso máscaras

AW | 2022 03 08 09:55 | GOVERNMENT / AVIATION ORGANISMS

US Federal mandate use of masks

The United States could end the mandatory use of masks

The Federal airline mask mandate would end on March 18, 2022. Trade groups sent a letter to the White House, urging an end to the mask mandate and other COVID-19 travel restrictions. Following surges in COVID-19 cases, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) twice extended the mask requirement for airports, airplanes, buses, and rail systems. As the number of cases has decreased and other COVID metrics have improved in recent months, the TSA will lift the requirement on March 18. While the mandate could be extended once more, it’s unclear if that will happen.

The requirement has remained in place even after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a change to COVID-19 guidance late last month, saying most Americans are safe without a mask indoors. . It was a dramatic change from previous guidance, which recommended masks in counties with substantial or high transmission, a category that covered the vast majority of the country. According to a metrics update Thursday, more than 90% of Americans live in areas of low or medium transmission of COVID-19, meaning masks are not recommended. The CDC currently advises masks only in areas that have high transmission.

Flybondi nuevo miembro ALTA

AW | 2022 03 04 18:01 | AIRLINES / AVIATION ORGANISMS

Flybondi es nuevo miembro asociado de ALTA

Flybondi_svg

Flybondi appointed member of ALTA

Flybondi is a new associate member of ALTA

AW-Flybondi_B-Isologotype

The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced this Thursday 03/03 the incorporation of the Argentine airline Flybondi Líneas Aéreas as an active member of the Latin American airline association, strengthening efforts to consolidate a solid aviation industry and robust. «We are very pleased to welcome the entire Flybondi team to ALTA, as this way we can provide more opportunities for efficient and safe transportation to many more people», said José Ricardo Botelho, Executive Director and CEO of the ALTA association.

Flybondi is the first Argentine ultra-low-cost airline, operating since 2018 focused on achieving high efficiency in its processes, managing to transport 3,900,000 passengers. For more than a year, and consecutively, it has maintained the highest load factor in its country and has a domestic market share of 13%. “We are very excited about joining ALTA and we are convinced that this is the best time to do so. With the progress made in reducing the pandemic, we understood that there was great potential for recovery, but that it also requires us to work collaboratively for a faster and more sustainable recovery”, said Mauricio Sana, CEO of Flybondi.

ALTA, which seeks to develop safer, more efficient and environmentally responsible transportation, said that next October it will hold the 18th ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in which transportation leaders will meet in the region, which will generate great opportunities to boost the enormous tourism potential of the South American country.

Accelerating growth

Flybondi’s growth in Argentina with four years of operations, reached almost four million passengers transported since its startup. The new post-pandemic boost has achieved that 30% of them have flown after the resumption of programming in Argentina in December 2021.

The concept of the brand and its linkage strategy with the traveler-consumer has been key, in the sense that its proposal means that 20% of the people who board its aircraft have done so and are doing so for the first time in his life. “Since we began flying four years ago, we have been changing people’s lives: those who traveled with us for the first time; those who reunited with family and friends; those who could know the sea, the snow, the mountains; and so many other stories behind those 4 million passengers that we are celebrating today”, celebrated Mauricio Sana, CEO of Flybondi.

But the most encouraging data is that 1,222,800 of those passengers traveled as of December 2021, when the company resumed its operations after lifting the restrictions that the Government imposed on commercial flights, in the context of the pandemic. At the time of celebrating these 4 million tourists, the low cost also analyzed the behavior of this demand for the new normality. Indeed, through its Data and Business Intelligence team- and based on the data provided by the sales system, it detected some changes in purchasing and travel habits. According to what was stated, in the first place, an increase in the demand of national destinations was verified, «valuing the tourist offer that the provinces have» and with a search for natural and adventure environments. For this reason, they maintain, the best-selling destinations in recent months were Bariloche, Jujuy, Salta, Mendoza and Córdoba, while the incorporation of Ushuaia had excellent demand since its inauguration. The budget airline highlighted other trends to take into account: depending on the destination, there is a different habit in the anticipation of the purchase and in the composition of the trip; the number of people traveling alone is growing; and increases the number of passengers with pets. In fact, in these four years 8,452 of them were transported, but half corresponds to the last three months.

The rapid reactivation of demand observed by the company Flybondi made it possible to announce an ambitious expansion plan for the fleet, routes, frequencies and personnel. Flybondi will hire 400 workers in 2022.

FAA ampliará revisiones de diseño
Implementaciones después accidentes del 737 MAX

Boeing 737 MAX_Isologotype

FAA will redouble inspections

FAA will expand design reviews
Implementations after accidents of the 737 MAX

The US aviation regulator, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is formalizing tighter oversight of new aircraft designs that were used after the Boeing 737 MAX was grounded. The Federal Aviation Administration announced on Monday 02/28 in a press release that so-called independent Technical Advisory Boards will be established during the certification process of commercial aircraft, smaller aircraft, helicopters and drones. The panels are designed to bring a new set of eyes to complex aircraft design approvals to ensure that potential safety issues are not overlooked. One of the findings of numerous investigations into the two 737 MAX crashes, which killed 346 people, is that the agency needed to tighten its oversight.

The action is part of a broader effort to enact reforms passed by Congress by the end of 2020 and implement changes the agency has promised in the wake of the accidents. In recent weeks, he has proposed adding protections for employees of aircraft manufacturers who are delegated to review FAA designs and review pilot training.

The 737 MAX crashes off the coast of Indonesia and in Ethiopia were caused in part by a design flaw that led the planes to repeatedly dive during malfunctions. The FAA created a review panel for the extensive reviews of the plane after the accidents and also has one for ongoing work on Boeing’s work to create new versions of the Boeing 777.

FAA 5G safety warning

5G could affect safety Boeing 737NG

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a warning that Fifth Generation (5G) wireless operations may affect radio altimeters on Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft, interfering with the crew’s ability to fly or land. in a safe way. However, the FAA has also stressed that the problem does not sound as serious as it seems, as it does not apply to aircraft flying into areas where the 5G environment has become aviation-safe, which according to the FAA. FAA includes almost all airports. This is because many commercial airports have installed 5G wireless buffer zones around them or lack 5G operations altogether as of now, thus keeping aircraft (including 737s) safe to fly, take off or land.

The FAA’s published Airworthiness Directive (AD) for the Boeing 737 Next Generation is not much different from the advisories issued for the 737 MAX, 747, 757, 767 and 777 aircraft. The directive warned Wednesday that the systems may not work. correctly «during approach, landings and turns» due to interference with radio altimeters from wireless broadband operations on the 3.7-3.98GHz frequency, also known as the 5G C-Band. According to the AD, this could result in «increased flight crew workload while approaching with the flight director, autothrottle, or autopilot engaged, which could result in reduced crew capacity of flight to maintain a safe flight and landing of the airplane». This directive affects about 2,400 aircraft in the United States and about 8,300 worldwide. A Boeing spokesperson said in a statement: «We support the Airworthiness Directive as it requires the same guidance that Boeing provided to operators in January [2022]».

FAA Chief Resignation

Stephen Dickson resigns as director of the FAA Agency

The Head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Stephen Dickson, announces his resignation midway through his term. He began his five-year term in the wake of the Boeing 737 MAX crashes. Other crises included a standoff between the agency and Fifth Generation (5G) wireless carriers. The Federal Aviation Administrator who led the agency in the wake of two fatal Boeing 737 Max crashes, resigned on Wednesday 2/23, effective March 31, 2022. Stephen Dickson’s announcement came halfway through his five-year term. years. In an email to the staff he has expressed that after long separations from his family it is time to dedicate all my time and attention to them. «As I wrote in my letter to President Biden, it’s time to go home», he said, noting his personal reasons for his retirement from the FAA agency. Stephen Dickson has been living in Washington D.C. leading the 45,000 person agency, while his family has been in the State of Georgia. «While my heart is heavy, I am tremendously proud of all that we have accomplished together over the past few years. The agency is in a better place than it was two years ago, and we are positioned for great success. It has been the privilege of a lifetime serve alongside you», said Stephen Dickson.

FAA Changes

Stephen Dickson’s aviation record as a Delta Air Lines captain and Chief of Flight Operations continued with his appointment to the FAA by President Donald Trump, days after the second of two fatal plane crashes. Boeing 737 MAX, after a crisis of twenty months. The two plane crashes killed 346 people and plunged the FAA into a crisis over safety and its close relationship with The Boeing Company. Following changes in enforcement policies, Stephen Dickson took it upon himself to enhance the FAA’s reputation and enhance its safety culture. In late December 2019, then-CEO of The Boeing Company, Dennis Muilenburg, was fired after declaring that regulators would return the planes to service by the end of the year, sparking a confrontation with the Washington DC-based aviation agency by Stephen Dickson.

He oversaw the plane in September 2019 after saying he would not clear the planes for service unless he flew the plane himself. Approvals didn’t come until a year later in November 2020. Stephan Dickson oversaw the 737 MAX’s return to service in late 2020, ending a twenty-month ground-incursion global flight ban, months later than expected. Boeing executives had estimated. Stephen Dickson also ran the agency during the last two years of the coronavirus pandemic, when passenger numbers fell and airlines faced record losses. In early 2022, the agency was embroiled in a standoff with wireless carriers Verizon and AT&T over concerns that the new Fifth Generation (5G) service could interfere with altimeters on some commercial aircraft. The dispute resulted in eleven-hour agreements to pause deployments near airports while the FAA worked on aircraft type approvals, though some airlines were forced to cut flights.

«Steve has been the FAA’s consistent and able captain, and his tenure has been marked by a strong commitment to the FAA’s safety mission and the 45,000 employees who work tirelessly every day to fulfill it. We are grateful for his years of service service to our country and his lifelong dedication to making sure our aviation system is the best and safest in the world», said Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.
