Las autoridades que investigan la desaparición del avión han recomendado que los equipos de búsqueda vayan más al norte, a una nueva zona identificada en un análisis reciente como posible lugar del siniestro. Pero el Gobierno australiano ya ha rechazado la idea.

Australia, Malasia y China, que contribuyeron a financiar la operación, acordaron el año pasado que la búsqueda se suspendería una vez completada la zona de búsqueda, a menos que aparecieran nuevas pruebas sobre la ubicación exacta de la aeronave.
