Air Kiribati  y Solomon Airlines han firmado un acuerdo por el que se establece un nuevo servicio de aviación que une Tarawa con Honiara, Brisbane Int’l (Australia) y Nadi (Fiji).

Willie Tokataake, Ministro de Transporte, Información, Comunicación y Desarrollo Turístico de Kiribati, dijo en una ceremonia de firma oficial en Tarawa esta semana que el acuerdo incrementaría significativamente el acceso a la aviación en el remoto atolón de la isla del Pacífico Sur y al mismo tiempo Existentes.

«No hay duda de que este nuevo acuerdo impulsará las oportunidades de desarrollo económico y en particular el turismo y las oportunidades de exportación para Kiribati», dijo el ministro.

El consejero delegado de Air Kiribati, Tarataake Teannaki, dijo que su aerolínea estaba entusiasmada de estar trabajando con un socio de aerolíneas que entendía las necesidades de viajes tanto del pueblo de Kiribati como de Air Kiribati.

Por su parte, Air Kiribati opera vuelos regulares en todo el estado de la isla empleando una combinación de equipos Y12 y DHC-6-300.

«Este servicio será un gran paso adelante y dará a la gente Kiribati nuevas opciones para viajar más allá de nuestras islas», dijo.

El acuerdo se produce después de que la compañía nacional de Kiribati recibiera su código oficial de dos letras IATA. Como tal, las fechas de lanzamiento del servicio, así como los horarios serán anunciados en las próximas semanas con un lanzamiento oficial que se celebrará en Tarawa.

El desarrollo se basa en un acuerdo firmado en noviembre pasado para un nuevo Acuerdo de Servicio Aéreo (ASA) y un Memorando de Entendimiento (MOU) entre las Islas Salomón y la República de Kiribati.

Air Kiribati and Solomon Airlines have signed an agreement establishing a new aviation service linking Tarawa with Honiara, Brisbane Int’l (Australia), and Nadi (Fiji).

At an official signing ceremony in Tarawa this week, the Kiribati Minister for Transport, Information, Communication, and Tourism Development, Willie Tokataake, said the agreement would significantly boost aviation access into the remote South Pacific island atoll while at the same time build on both countries’ existing strong links.

“There is no doubt this new agreement will boost economic development opportunities and in particular tourism and export opportunities for Kiribati,” the Minister said.

Air Kiribati CEO, Tarataake Teannaki said his airline was excited to be working with an airline partner which understood the travel needs of both the Kiribati people and Air Kiribati.

For its part, Air Kiribati operates regular flights throughout the island state employing a combination of Y12 and DHC-6-300 equipment.

“This service will be a major step up and will give the Kiribati people new options to travel beyond our islands,” he said.

The agreement comes after the Kiribati national carrier was granted its official two-letter IATA designator code – «IK». As such, service launch dates as well as schedules will be announced in coming weeks with an official launch to be held in Tarawa.

The development builds on an agreement signed last November for a new Air Service Agreement (ASA) and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Solomon Islands and Republic of Kiribati. A\W
