TAME finaliza operaciones en Venezuela

AW | 2018 02 04 18:06 | AIRLINES ROUTES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

TAME finalize operations in Venezuela

The Ecuadorian airline TAME Airlines will close its operations in Venezuela as a result of the institutional crisis

TAME Airlines had announced the cancellation of its flights to Caracas announced in October 2017, canceling the offer of ticket sales in November 2017.

The last scheduled flight on the Caracas-Bogotá-Quito route was held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, said TAME Manager, Octavio Pérez. The decision due to low profitability, the exchange system (monetary) and the technical problems that Simón Bolívar de Maiquetía Airport presents in Caracas. «The demand for tickets had been decreasing for months and the exchange system from bolivars to dollars was very complex», he said.

Regardless of the political-economic reality in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Copa Airlines will continue to survive the attacks in 2018, confirming that it will continue flying to Caracas. As if it were a necessary confirmation every year, the Panamanian company will continue to face the complicated operations adding an economic risk. «We know there are many difficulties and a lot of uncertainty, but for now we are going to continue flying to Venezuela. We are one of the few airlines that still operates in the country despite the fact that there are some months better than others. Today we only sell in dollars, but there is a debt from previous years that has been frozen and we will see tomorrow what happens», CEO Pedro Heilbron said.

The airlines have been trying to change the bolivars generated by the sale of tickets in Venezuela for several years, since the country is governed since 2003 by a system of exchange control that leaves the purchase of foreign currency in the hands of the State.

The problem is that the Government of Venezuela does not have enough foreign currency and many have decided to leave the country, including Aerolineas Argentinas, United Airlines, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Alitalia, Latam Airlines, Tiara Air, GOL Linhas Aéreas, Delta Air Lines, Avianca, Aeromexico and now TAME of Ecuador is added.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) calculates that the debt that the Venezuelan Government has with the airlines is around US $ 3,800 million. A \ W

Air Belgium iniciará operaciones

AW | 2018 02 04 17:40 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Air Belgium will start operations

Brussels-Charleroi will be the main operational base of Air Belgium

The new airline of Belgium, Air Belgium has announced the beginning of its operations for March 2018. It has officially chosen Brussels-Charleroi Airport as its base of operations.

Air Belgium is processing the pending certifications in time to start its international operations projected for March 2018.

Base operations

The airline air Belgium has announced that it has selected Brussels-Charleroi Airport over Brussels National because of better access, quality of service, competitive costs and commitment to expand to a larger international airport. «Brussels South convinced us because of its great development success and commitment to major investments and infrastructure improvements. The airport is well established and attracts millions of travelers, of which 60% are international passengers and 31% are business travelers. We are convinced that our passengers will benefit from excellent service, especially since Brussels South is beginning to adjust its current infrastructure», said airline CEO Niky Terzakis.

Air Belgium will prepare the Brussels-Charleroi Terminal to develop its «Premium» facilities to meet the needs of business and Premium class travelers. Construction will begin at the end of May and will take a year to complete. Meanwhile, temporary measures will be implemented to guarantee the comfort of the passengers from the beginning.

In addition, the airport administrator had announced the intention to extend runway 07/25 from 700 meters to 3,200 meters so that the new Airbus A340-300 could land without limitations.

The installation of the Charleroi Airport for the Air Belgium airline represents an investment of € 6-7 million for the Charleroi Airport of Brussels-South (BCSA), informed its General Director, Jean-Jacques Cloquet.

It will be necessary to adapt the facilities and acquire the adequate equipment for the adaptation of the large aircraft. By first welcoming an airline that operates long-haul flights, the airport wants to demonstrate that it can become a central platform, where passengers would sometimes be in transit between a European destination and a more distant one. But such an approach implies some limitations of infrastructure development.

«With the arrival of Air Belgium, we are entering a new era and integrating a new category of airports, if we had stayed in the status quo, we would have retreated», said Laurent Levêque, President of BSCA.

Network services

Air Belgium will begin its expansion of national and international services. It will connect nonstop flights from Brussels to Hong Kong-Chek Lap Kok four times a week at the end of March. It also contemplates connecting another six destinations to China.

Asia will be the market that Air Belgium will focus on over the next four years, says its CEO, Niky Terzakis. According to him, 60-70% of the company’s revenues are generated in Asia.

North America and South America are also included in the project of the analyzed routes.

Air Belgium aircraft

It will use aircraft under the lease of four A340-300s from Finnair Aircraft Finance, previously operated by Finnair. The arrival of the first two A340-300s will be by mid-February 2018. They expect to start operations with four A340s and aim to reach 500,000 passengers transported per year. A \ W

Embraer E2s expectativas China/Asia-Pac

AW | 2018 02 03 17:38 | INDUSTRY

Embraer E2s market expectations China / Asia-Pac

Embraer expects the Embraer E190-E2 to increase the market in China, Asia and the Pacific

The relative scarcity of orders that Embraer has made for its E-Jet line in the Asia-Pacific region contrasts sharply with its success in China, a market company that executives only hope to grow with the introduction of the first E2 variant. Waiting for the imminent certification of the E190-E2 when the Singapore Airshow approached, Embraer (Static Display CD 31, Stand V01) sees the recently announced improvements in high and high performance to attract the attention of the airlines in the People’s Republic, where Less than 100 E-Jets already fly with five operators.

EMBRAER E195-E2

Throughout the rest of Asia, E-Jets of the current generation only fly in Japan, but according to Embraer Commercial Aviation’s vice president of marketing, Rodrigo Silva e Souza, the interest has spread as the company demonstrates E2’s ability to generate seat-mile costs rivaling those of larger narrow bodies.

The current market in China, for the E190 represents virtually all deliveries of Embraer. The Brazilian constructor observes that each of the three new variants E190-E2, E195-E2 and E175-E2 addresses existing and new markets throughout Asia. In the case of the E175, even the current generation, or E1 version, will find a niche in China along with the Comac ARJ-21 in the coming years. The E175 is very well positioned for that particular incentive. You could even send E175-E1’s to China before you have the E175-E2 ready (by 2021).

Market for the E190 / E195-E2

As for the rest of the Asia-Pacific, Silva expects the largest E2 variant, the next E195-E2, to find a niche in the low-yield markets where none of the E1 managed to take hold.

«The Asian market is a very low performance market, and it requires a plane with a lower cost of seat mileage, which is the case with the E195-E2.It has a unit cost similar to an A320NEO, for example, but a cost 20 percent better travel, so we think it will be very attractive, I think the E190-E2 brings more efficiency to the current E190 customer base, but the E195-E2 will change the balance between E-Jets and narrowbodies in any fleet of airlines because the unit cost is much more attractive and will open some markets that we can not reach with the E-Jets of the current generation», said Rodrigo Silva.

The E195-E2 benefits from all the performance and cost advantages demonstrated during the E190-E2 tests, whose final specification shows a fuel combustion efficiency 1.3 percent better than the original estimates and an improvement of 750 nm in high ranges and hot from the London City airport and Mexico City.

The aerodynamic improvements in the E190-E2 result in a 17.3 percent reduction in the combustion rate compared to the E190-E1, compared to the original estimate of 16 percent, explained the director of the E-Jet program Fernando Antonio Oliveira The company attributes the improvement to better than expected performance of the new wing, an aerodynamically clean fuselage and the «smart» use of the aircraft’s fly-by-wire controls.

Embraer credited improvements in track performance to a weight control program that allowed it to achieve its weight goals with precision in goal optimization, flap and slat during the flight test campaign, reduction of drag on key elements for the takeoff performance as the landing gear and finally, «excellence in the use of the fly-by-wire».

The high and high improvements have resulted in an increase in the reach of London City Airport to 2,200 nautical miles, which allows the E190-E2 to reach the markets of Russia, Egypt and Turkey. The company expects to obtain certification for the city of London within two years, said Oliveira, who appointed operators E1 BA Cityflier, KLM Cityhopper and Austrian Airlines as potential candidates to fly the E2 inside and outside LCY. From Mexico City, the range increases to 1,600 nm, extending the reach of the E190 to Canada and South America.

Silva explained that the aerodynamic adjustment that resulted in improvements in performance also translates into a reduction in aircraft noise. The specifications show that the E190-E2 generates a margin of 20 EPNdB in Stage 4, which is equivalent to an improvement of 3 EPNdB over the original expectations. Of course, the reduction of fuel consumption resulting from aerodynamic improvements also reduces emissions, and Embraer estimates that a 1.3 percent better fuel consumption translates into approximately 1,700 fewer tons of CO 2 emissions per aircraft in 10 years.

Embraer now expects pilots to need only two and a half days of transition training for E2, or half a day less than the original plan. «The differences in the procedures are very small, a full flight simulator is not necessary, and the 2.5 days actually represent less than 10 percent of the full flight training for a new airplane. Transition becomes a very strong point of sale for current E-Jet operators, said Rodrigo Silva.

In times of shortage of pilots, having a tenth of the normal transition training to jump to a more efficient plane is a big advantage compared to a new platform. A \ W

Las regulaciones aéreas en EEUU

original.jpg

AW | 2018 02 03 17:01 | AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The air regulations in the USA

Several incidents call into question the regulations of the FAA and the NTSB

Growing evidence suggests that Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) agencies must react to four major airline mishaps in the last seven months. Regulators could «bow down» to industries, but it is their duty to monitor the safety of air transport.

The events have led an investigation to the United States Congress, to deepen the incidents that occurred and a presumed lack of controls by transportation agencies.

Research cases

A Horizon Air flight on December 29, 2017 landed on a narrow taxiway at Pullman Airport, Washington, instead of the runway where it should have been. The FAA investigators then received orders from their superiors not to bother listening to the voice recorder from the plane. The contorted explanation of the FAA: listening to tapes after a mishap «could have a chilling effect on crew communications». Overlooking this type of analysis could lead to greater problems. The pilots stop talking in the booth because they know in advance that when they are about to make a big mistake, someone later could hear what they said.

It is a silly argument that only serves to protect roving pilots and hide critical evidence from researchers. Experts say that the critical recordings can provide valuable information about what the pilots were doing and think when they made a mistake when landing.

The NTSB did not initiate an investigation of the incident until a month later, only after it began reporting the indifference of the agency. The NTSB now says it will also review why it originally refused to investigate the setback.

Other incidents ignited the alarm before evident lack of controls. An Air Canada plane almost landed on July 7, 2017 on a taxiway in San Francisco (SFO) where four fully loaded planes awaited takeoff. An Air Canada plane landed in SFO on October 22 despite repeated orders to abort due to concerns that another plane would not clear the runway. A Delta Air Lines plane almost landed on November 29, 2017 on a taxiway occupied by a fully loaded commercial aircraft.

To carry out a research process, the recordings of voices and parameters of the first incidents were not even conserved. Worse yet, the federal law did not require preservation because the planes never landed on a taxiway or on a wrong track.

Federal law must be amended to require preservation, but the FAA and the NTSB have not shown interest in advocating for change. The Horizon Air incident was different because the plane landed on a taxiway, meeting the legal criteria that requires the preservation of voice recording. However, even then, the FAA was not interested in hearing what the pilots said. And the NTSB at first did not even bother to investigate. None of this instills confidence that the two agencies responsible for aviation security really care about what happens. A \ W

Pautas Federales de transporte animales

AW-70099855

AW | 2018 02 03 16:03 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Federal guidelines on animal transport

The US Department of Transportation recognizes deficiencies in transportation of animals

The main US airlines are analyzing a new challenge among passengers who use «emotional support animals» that expect to fly with their owners for security reasons.

United Airlines, this week has had an atypical passenger named «Dexter», a peacock, at Newark Airport for health and safety concerns, announced on Thursday that it restricted regulations on emotionally supportive animals to passengers, citing an increase 75% in clients that raise creatures and an increase in incidents. The possible passenger with the peacock created a nervousness in the loo social networks that has generated an unhealthy publicity towards the airlines.

Regulations on transportation

Federal guidelines support the right of passengers with disabilities to deal with a variety of emotional support or service animals, but airlines may deny boarding to some exotic or unusual pets.

United Airlines said: «The Department of Transportation’s rules regarding emotional support animals do not work as intended, and we have to change our approach to ensure a safe and enjoyable travel experience for all of our customers», the airline said. a statement. United Airlines spokesman Charlie Hobart said the peacock had «no relevance to the policy change, which will take effect on March 1, 2018, and the timing was a complete coincidence. We have been working on this policy for some time, long before the incident this weekend with Dexter». He noted that the majestic bird with blue and green iridescent plumage was not allowed on board according to the current policy, which prohibits cabin travel from a collection of wild animals such as hedgehogs, rodents, non-domestic birds and animals that are not cleaned properly or that smell bad.

Delta and the animals

United Airlines ‘decision follows Delta Air Lines’ decision to implement new documentation requirements for owners wishing to fly with their animals, a new policy that says it comes as a lack of regulation that has led to serious security risks by involving animals in flight without training.

This airline said it had seen an 84% increase in reports of animal incidents since 2016, including an emotional support dog that weighed 70 pounds (more than 30 kilograms) that gave another passenger facial injuries requiring 28 service points. suture.

«Customers have tried to fly with comfortable turkeys, sliding possums known as sugar gliders, snakes, spiders and more.» Ignoring the true purpose of the existing rules governing the transport of service and support animals may be detrimental to customers who have real and documented needs», Delta Air Lines said.

The Association of Flight Attendants announced the most stringent Delta requirements. A US spokeswoman said the airline was reviewing its policy, and vowed to «continue to support the rights of clients, from veterans to people with disabilities, with legitimate needs.

«Dexter», the peacock, meanwhile, was forced to make the trip to Los Angeles by car, according to the bird’s Instagram account: «I spent 6 hours trying to take my flight to Los Angeles», said one legend next to an image of the peacock, which according to reports belongs to a performance artist based in New York, perched on a luggage cart. Boeing ofrece pistas hogar Boeing 797

AW | 2018 02 02 12:51 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Boeing offers tracks to build the Boeing 797

4mk91UzFThe State of Washington would obtain the approval for the construction of the new Boeing 797

The positive words of the new CEO of Boeing are encouraging for the company to build its next Boeing 797 commercial in Puget Sound, Washington State.

Boeing Executive Director, Dennis Muilenburg, has announced that the State of Washington is looking to obtain production of the company’s next aircraft. «Puget Sound is part of Boeing for the future in a very strong way,» said Dennis Muilenburg. The region and the state must continue to work hard to convince the company that their hometown is still the best place in the world to build their next Boeing 797 commercial aircraft.

Looking for a place

A working group convened is making progress and preparing to present the formal request for the initiative. Regional groups in areas such as Snohomish County and Spokane are also presenting their case. This is a critical effort to retain and grow an industry that is a cornerstone of the state’s economy. While Muilenburg did not bow to the 797, which Boeing has yet to commit to build, he dropped clues about where Washington can improve its competitiveness.

As a global city and home to leading companies, it is unlikely that Seattle will once again be an affordable place to live and work. At the same time, the region continues to offer a high quality of life at a price range. Boeing is unlikely to receive another huge package of tax incentives, and so far has not indicated that it is necessary, according to state Commerce Secretary Brian Bonlender.

Growth is a challenge, but it is also a testament to the region’s ability to continue attracting the best talent. It also attests to the enormous value of the region as a place to build products and services of the next generation. Program 797 would benefit from the Boeing tax incentive package that the state authorized in 2013, initially valued at $ 8.7 billion. That extended the tax exemptions until 2040 and ensured the development of the 777X, including a composite wing production center in Everett that will likely be used for the 797.

The work team

Muilenburg also said that the state should emphasize workforce training to have «talents ready for employment.» This is another area where the work team has good tests to present. The Legislature increased funding for education from $ 13.4 billion in the 2011-2013 biennium to $ 26.6 billion in the 2019-2021 biennium. That substantial investment will benefit Washington’s workforce and its appeal as a place to build careers and families.
Recent investments in education include a new emphasis on learning and professional education programs.

Business leaders and government leaders, including Inslee and Microsoft President Brad Smith, are updating the state’s career planning programs, inspired in part by Swiss learning programs that combine face-to-face training with internships at companies such as GE Aviation. This received a boost in December when Inslee awarded $ 6.4 million to create 29,000 «career connected learning» opportunities, including science, technology, engineering and math programs, career planning and new internships and internships.

The Boeing company will decide where to build its next aircraft as its people and facilities in the Puget Sound region reach extraordinary milestones, including the completion of the first 777X flying aircraft in Everett and the 737 production in Renton, which will increase to 52 aircraft per month.

Past performance is an excellent indicator of future success, and Washington is making smart investments to ensure that its workers, Boeing and other companies do even better in the future. A \ W

Justicia autoriza Aeropuerto El Palomar

justicia

AW | 2018 02 02 12:30 | AIRPORTS

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Justice authorizes El Palomar Airport

Flybondi will begin operations on February 9 from the new El Palomar Airport

The new El Palomar Airport was approved by the Argentinean justice to start its operations after a resource imposed by the residents of the airport area.

In this first instance, the Judge of First Instance in Civil, Commercial and Administrative, Martina Forns, allowed a maximum of the progrsamación of flights of three takeoffs and three daily landings, one more than the operations scheduled for this stage. In addition, he requested the removal of the remaining explosive material in the military base depots.

After giving rise to an injunction on behalf of a group of neighbors in December 2017, Forns had arranged for an environmental impact study, which the Regulatory Agency of the National Airport System (ORSNA) presented last Friday. This report has less impact on noise and gas than the historic one. In this framework, the judge asked that the environmental impact of the operations in progress be monitored and that complementary studies be presented before adding new take-offs and landings.

The Ministry of Transportation will hold a public hearing in the next 60 days to present the works and aeronautical operation projects. In this first stage, which requires the creation of 220 direct and 1100 indirect jobs, Aeropuertos Argentina will spend $ 110 million of a total of $ 1,600 million for the reconditioning of El Palomar Airport. You can feel the progress of the works inside the terminal, where they have already installed customer service stations, seats, floors and even a luggage scanner. A \ W

French Blue cambia denominación

AW | 2018 02 02 11:51 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

French Blue changes denomination

JetBlue Airways resorts to justice to force change name to French Blue

The French airline French Blue, a subsidiary of the Dubreuil Group, has announced that it will be renamed French Bee due to a visual branding conflict.

The change of denomination is due to a judicial process in the United States initiated by the airline JetBlue Airways. The French company announced its intention to operate trips to French Polynesia, a destination for which it is necessary to make a stopover in the USA. Given this, JetBlue Airways denounced that the similarity between the names of companies could lead to misunderstandings among customers.

After the change, the connections between France, San Francisco (chosen stopover) and Papeete will not suffer delays. The first trip is scheduled for February 6, 2018 with an Airbus A350-900. A \ W
