Huracán Kay arremete costa Pacífico de México
Una nueva temporada de huracanes se extiende para este periodo 2022-2023 en toda la cintura del hemisferio septentrional en la línea del Ecuador, en las zonas del Sudeste asiático, el Caribe, incluyendo América del Norte.
Tifón Hinnamnor
El Tifón Hinnamnor deja un muerto y varios desaparecidos en Corea del Sur. El tifón dejó el Martes 06/09 un muerto y nueve desaparecidos en Corea del Sur, antes de devolverse al mar después de provocar reportes de daños materiales. El tifón, uno de los más potentes en décadas en Corea del Sur, tocó tierra en la Isla de Jeju antes de llegar a la ciudad de Busán, golpeada por grandes olas e intensas lluvias que dañaron las carreteras y las tiendas del litoral.
La mañana del Martes 06/09 en la ciudad portuaria de Pohang (este), una mujer mayor fue arrasada y murió por una inundación, dijo el organismo de gestión de desastres. Indicó que la cifra de muertos podría subir debido a que se han identificado al menos nueve desaparecidos hasta la tarde del martes, incluyendo siete personas en un estacionamiento subterráneo inundado en Pohang. Más de 60.000 hogares quedaron sin luz en Corea del Sur debido al tifón, que se movía a una velocidad de 154,8 km por hora cuando llegó a la costa, dijeron las autoridades. Como precaución, las autoridades cerraron más de 600 escuelas y las aerolíneas dejaron en tierra unos 250 vuelos domésticos, aunque el servicio se reanudó gradualmente a medida que Hinnamnor se dirigía a Japón.
Corea del Norte también se había preparado para la tormenta con una reunión del equipo de respuesta ante desastres dirigida por el líder Kim Jong Un, indicaron el Martes 06/09 los medios estatales. El Martes 06/09 por la mañana, el tifón se encontraba sobre el Mar de Japón, a unos 100 kilómetros de la isla de Tsushima, en el suroeste del archipiélago nipón, indicó la agencia meteorológica del país. Con vientos de 180 kilómetros por hora, el tifón debe llevar fuertes lluvias al oeste de Japón el Martes 06/09. En la región de Kyushu, más de 35.000 hogares se quedaron sin luz, indicó Kyushu Electricity, y los famosos trenes bala japoneses fueron suspendidos por el viento y la lluvia, informó el operador regional. La tormenta se fortaleció a un huracán de Categoría 1 este Lunes 05/09 por la noche con vientos máximos sostenidos de 130 kilómetro por hora según la Comisión Nacional del Agua de México. Los niveles de lluvia habían alcanzado los 140 mm. Las lluvias torrenciales azotaron a Nayarit, Jaliso, Colima, Michoacán, Puebla y Oaxaca, según el Servicio Meteorológico Nacional de México.
Actualmente, se proyecta que el huracán corra paralelo a la costa oeste de México con bandas exteriores que azotan la costa, pero los pronósticos oficiales indican que Kay permanecerá en alta mar y no tocará tierra en este momento, según la meteoróloga de CNN, Mónica Garrett.
Se pronostica que el Huracán Kay se moverá hacia el noroeste durante los próximos cinco días, permaneciendo al oeste de México, incluida la península de Baja California. El Huracán Kay se moverá a lo largo de la costa oeste de la Península de Baja California desde finales del miércoles hasta el viernes. La tormenta estará en su punto más cercano y tal vez toque tierra en la parte central de la Península a finales del Jueves 08/09. Kay tiene actualmente vientos sostenidos de 136,9 km/h, lo que lo convierte en un huracán de Categoría 1. Se espera que se fortalezca aún más, por lo que podría convertirse en un huracán de Categoría 3 en las próximas 48 horas. Los vientos serán más fuertes si el centro de la tormenta se desplaza hacia la costa, pero las lluvias fuertes son inevitables de cualquier manera. Typhoon Hinnamnor leaves one dead and several missing in South Korea. More than 60,000 homes were left without electricity in South Korea due to the typhoon, which was moving at a speed of 154.8 km per hour when it reached the coast, authorities said. As a precaution, authorities closed more than 600 schools and airlines grounded some 250 domestic flights, though service gradually resumed as Hinnamnor headed for Japan.
North Korea had also prepared for the storm with a meeting of the disaster response team led by leader Kim Jong Un, state media reported on Tuesday 06/09. The North Korean president said that strengthening Pyongyang’s ability to respond to disasters is crucial because «nothing is more precious (…) than people’s lives and safety», the official KCNA news agency reported. Experts have said that North Korea is especially vulnerable to floods and heavy rains due to deforestation and poor irrigation.
On Tuesday morning 09/06, the typhoon was over the Sea of Japan, about 100 kilometers from the island of Tsushima, in the southwest of the Japanese archipelago, the country’s meteorological agency said. With winds of 180 kilometers per hour, the typhoon is expected to bring heavy rain to western Japan on Tuesday 06/09. In the Kyushu region, more than 35,000 homes were left without power, Kyushu Electricity said, and the famous Japanese bullet trains were suspended due to wind and rain, the regional operator reported. At least 120 flights to and from Kyushu airport were cancelled.

Hurricane Kay will continue to strengthen off the coast of Mexico. At least three people died in tropical storm Kay according to the Director of Civil Protection of the State of Guerrero, Roberto Arroyo, in statements on Sunday 09/04.
The storm strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane this Monday 09/05 at night with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour according to the National Water Commission of Mexico. Rain levels had reached 140mm. Torrential rains lashed Nayarit, Jaliso, Colima, Michoacán, Puebla and Oaxaca, according to Mexico’s National Weather Service.
The hurricane is currently projected to run parallel to Mexico’s west coast with outer bands hitting the coast, but official forecasts indicate that Kay will remain offshore and not make landfall at this time, according to CNN Meteorologist Monica Garrett.
Hurricane Kay is forecast to move northwest over the next five days, remaining west of Mexico, including the Baja California peninsula. It is expected to strengthen during the next 36 hours and could «become a major hurricane during that time», according to information from the US National Hurricane Center on Tuesday morning 06/09.
Kay is expected to become a Category 2 hurricane in the next 12 hours and possibly reach Category 3 this Wednesday, before beginning to weaken on Thursday 08/09. Kay is expected to produce 100 to 200mm of rainfall, with isolated storm totals of up to 300mm, across parts of western Mexico, including the Baja California peninsula, through Thursday night. These rainfall amounts could lead to flash flooding, including landslides.
Hurricane Kay strengthens and extends the threat of extreme heat in southern California until Friday 09/09. They issue a hurricane alert for some regions of the Baja California Peninsula. A hurricane alert is issued for the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula from Puerto Cortés to Punta Eugenia, according to the Mexican Government. A tropical storm warning is also in effect from Punta Abreojos south to Cabo San Lucas and from Cabo San Lucas north to Santa Rosalía. In addition, a tropical storm alert is in effect from north of Santa Rosalía to Bahía de los Ángeles and from north of Punta Eugenia to San José de las Palomas.
Hurricane Kay will move along the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula from late Wednesday through Friday. The storm will be at its closest point and may make landfall in the central portion of the Peninsula by late Thursday. Kay currently has sustained winds of 136.9 km/h, making it a Category 1 hurricane. It is expected to further strengthen and could become a Category 3 hurricane in the next 48 hours. Winds will be stronger if the center of the storm moves offshore, but heavy rain is inevitable either way. Widespread rainfall amounts of 76 to 203mm are expected across the Baja California Peninsula, with a chance of up to 380mm in the central portions of the peninsula.
