Qatar Airways compra la pequeña aerolínea ejecutiva JetSuiteX de California

JetSuite comenzó hace más de una década como una compañía de aviones privados, principalmente transportando pasajeros de clase ejecutiva en jets corporativos en el oeste de los Estados Unidos. Qatar Airways has landed in the United States with the purchase of the JetSuiteX executive airline of the State of California. JetSuiteX operates five Embraer E135 with 30 seats on the west coast, mainly in California and Nevada, with plans to add two more aircraft in the summer. JetSuiteX uses smaller airports, such as Burbank, near Los Angeles, and Concord in northern California, and operates from private air terminals, rather than passenger terminals.

JetSuite said on Tuesday that Qatar Airways would take a minority stake in JetSuiteX, and that its investment would be extended to JetSuiteX. JetBlue has also been an investor in JetSuite and on Tuesday, JetBlue said it would increase its stake. The terms and participation were not disclosed, but Alex Wilcox, CEO of JetSuite, said in an interview that Qatar’s investment complies with foreign investment laws for US airlines. Investors like Qatar Airways can not have more than 25 percent of the shares with voting rights and no more than 49 percent of the total economic participation. “It’s a game changer for us, we’re thrilled with the additional capital and we can expand and have a partner who appreciates the passenger experience”, said Wilcox.

Qatar Airways is a major investor in other airlines, but its goals are often much larger than JetSuite. In particular, it owns 20 percent of International Airlines Group, which controls British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vuelin, and 10 percent of LATAM, the South American airline. Last year, the airline initially wanted to buy 10 percent of American and then cut its proposal in half, but it left after US CEO Doug Parker called the proposal “puzzling.”

Rachel Porges, vice president of marketing for JetSuite, said JetSuiteX could expand to the east coast, perhaps in secondary airports near Boston, New York and Washington, DC She could even fly to Florida, he said. “Anywhere where there are unattended, overpopulated and frustrated travelers at airports, we believe that this model works”, he said.

JetSuite did not have such scruples. The company said the money will not only help it expand its private aircraft business, but also help the charter airline expand into the western United States and beyond. For now, all JetSuiteX routes depart or arrive from California airports, with most routes 500 miles or less.
