JetSmart Perú inaugura vuelos en el imperio Inca
JetSmart Airlines Perú ha iniciado operaciones aerocomerciales el Martes 14 de Junio de 2022 inaugurando la ruta doméstica Lima—Arequipa. El grupo JetSmart Airlines Group ha incursionado en el tercer mercado en la región latinoamericana después de Chile y Argentina, expansión que se enmarca en su plan de crecimiento en Sudamérica.
El grupo le ha dado la bienvenida a una nueva unidad de operaciones en la región. “Estamos marcando un hito en la industria de la aviación peruana. Esto es un paso importante en nuestra visión de llevar a más de 100 millones de pasajeros y 100 aviones para 2028″, expresa Estuardo Ortiz, CEO de JetSmart. En la inauguración de la nueva filial peruana participan del inicio de operaciones, Brian Franke, Director Principal de Indigo Partners LLC; la Viceministra de Turismo del Perú, Julia Álvarez Novoa y el Consejero Económico de los Estados Unidos, John M. Barrett, Francesa Luna, Directora de JetSmart Airlines Perú.
La startup remarcará la importancia de continuar desarrollando el mercado aéreo en Perú para contribuir a la reactivación de la aviación comercial, del turismo y la economía en el país como en el resto de la región, buscando generar la mayor cantidad de eficiencias posibles, necesarias para asegurar economías a escala y sustentar el modelo de ultra bajo costo y tarifas bajas de un modelo de ultra bajo costo (ULCC). Para atender los primeros vuelos, JetSmart Perú considera una flota conformada por tres Airbus A320-200N (3) transferidos desde Chile. Actualmente, la compañía dispone de dos A320-200NEO (2) con los cuales realiza los vuelos inaugurales. La transferencia de estos aviones al Perú junto con los envíos de flota a Argentina contribuirá a ajustar la capacidad en toda la red, siendo Chile el mercado más afectado por estas acciones.
JetSmart Perú competirá con SKY Airline y Viva Air como operador low cost. En el sub-segmento ULCC, será el segundo operador después de la firma colombiana integrante futura del Grupo Abra. La compañía descarta que la operación en el Perú sea algo complejo por la experiencia que tiene en el sector y el gran potencial que ofrece el mercado, especialmente con una creciente actividad turística y las condiciones geográficas que hacen del avión un medio de transporte esencial. “Creemos que el espacio está y lo vamos a aprovechar. El enfoque está en la estimulación del mercado”, dice Estuardo Ortiz en Abril 2022. El ingreso de la ULCC de Indigo Partners anticipa una participación dinámica competitiva con las aerolíneas de bajo costo SKY y Viva Air, sino que también con LATAM Airlines Perú. SKY Airline ha rspondido al estímulo de mercado aumentando frecuencias en cinco rutas peruanas: Arequipa (4%), Cusco (20%), Juliaca (3%), Tarapoto (57%) y Trujillo (100%).

El plan de rutas es significativamente superior al anunciado en Abril 2022, cuando en la conferencia Wings of Change de la Asociación de Transporte Aéreo Internacional (IATA) anuncia el inicio de operaciones en el mercado doméstico peruano. JetSmart Airlines Perú ha expresado que proyecta concretar trece (13) rutas domésticas de las cuales nueve parten desde la base en Lima/LIM y otras cuatro de carácter interregional. De acuerdo con el plan presentado, las rutas troncales conectan Lima con Arequipa, Cusco, Piura, Trujillo, Tarapoto, Talara, Juliaca, Iquitos y Cajamarca. Las rutas interregionales corresponden a Arequipa—Cusco, Arequipa—Trujillo—Arequipa—Piura y Arequipa—Tarapoto. Además, estudiarán hacer de Arequipa, la denominada “Ciudad Blanca”, como una eventual segunda base operacional. Por el momento, JetSmart Airlines Perú no considera operaciones internacionales. Sin embargo, la operación de vuelos internacionales desde Lima, Arequipa y Trujillo con Santiago de Chile, serán atendidos por la filial de Chile.
El ingreso de un nuevo operador aéreo a Perú fortalecerán los destinos altamente atractivos que abrirán nuevas oportunidades de crecimiento, tanto para ampliar las conexiones con Chile como con otros países como Argentina y en el futuro Colombia o Ecuador, entre otros. Actualmente, JetSmart Airlines Group cuenta con operaciones en Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Uruguay, Perú y Chile. En total, la ULCC cubre sesenta rutas en toda Sudamérica.

JetSmart Peru inaugurates flights in the Inca empire
JetSmart Airlines Peru has started commercial air operations on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, inaugurating the Lima-Arequipa domestic route. The JetSmart Airlines Group has entered the third largest market in the Latin American region after Chile and Argentina, an expansion that is part of its growth plan in South America.
The group has welcomed a new operations unit in the region. “We are marking a milestone in the Peruvian aviation industry. This is an important step in our vision of carrying more than 100 million passengers and 100 aircraft by 2028″, says Estuardo Ortiz, CEO of JetSmart. At the inauguration of the new Peruvian subsidiary, Brian Franke, Director Principal of Indigo Partners LLC, the Vice Minister of Tourism of Peru, Julia Álvarez Novoa and the Economic Counselor of the United States, John M. Barrett, Francesa Luna, Director of JetSmart Airlines Peru.
The startup will highlight the importance of continuing to develop the air market in Peru to contribute to the reactivation of commercial aviation, tourism and the economy in the country as in the rest of the region, seeking to generate as many efficiencies as possible, necessary to ensure economies of scale and support the ultra low cost model and low rates of an ultra low cost model (ULCC). To serve the first flights, JetSmart Peru considers a fleet made up of three Airbus A320-200N (3) transferred from Chile. Currently, the company has two A320-200NEO (2) with which it performs its inaugural flights. The transfer of these aircraft to Peru together with the shipments of the fleet to Argentina will help adjust capacity throughout the network, with Chile being the market most affected by these actions.
JetSmart Peru will compete with SKY Airline and Viva Air as a low cost operator. In the ULCC sub-segment, it will be the second operator after the Colombian firm that will be a future member of Grupo Abra. The company rules out that the operation in Peru is somewhat complex due to the experience it has in the sector and the great potential offered by the market, especially with a growing tourist activity and the geographical conditions that make the plane an essential means of transport. “We believe that the space is there and we are going to take advantage of it. The focus is on stimulating the market”, says Estuardo Ortiz in April 2022. The entry of the ULCC of Indigo Partners anticipates a dynamic competitive participation with low-cost airlines SKY and Viva Air, but also with LATAM Airlines Peru. SKY Airline has responded to the market stimulus by increasing frequencies on five Peruvian routes: Arequipa (4%), Cusco (20%), Juliaca (3%), Tarapoto (57%) and Trujillo (100%).
Perspectives JetSmart Peru
The route plan is significantly higher than that announced in April 2022, when at the Wings of Change conference of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) it announced the start of operations in the Peruvian domestic market. JetSmart Airlines Peru has stated that it plans to finalize thirteen (13) domestic routes, of which nine depart from the base in Lima/LIM and another four of an interregional nature. According to the plan presented, trunk routes connect Lima with Arequipa, Cusco, Piura, Trujillo, Tarapoto, Talara, Juliaca, Iquitos and Cajamarca. The interregional routes correspond to Arequipa-Cusco, Arequipa-Trujillo-Arequipa-Piura and Arequipa-Tarapoto. In addition, they will study making Arequipa, the so-called “White City”, as a possible second operational base. At the moment, JetSmart Airlines Peru does not consider international operations. However, the operation of international flights from Lima, Arequipa and Trujillo with Santiago de Chile, will be served by the Chilean subsidiary.
The entry of a new air operator to Peru will strengthen highly attractive destinations that will open up new growth opportunities, both to expand connections with Chile and with other countries such as Argentina and in the future Colombia or Ecuador, among others. Currently, JetSmart Airlines Group has operations in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru and Chile. In total, the ULCC covers sixty routes throughout South America.
