La compañía brasileña Embraer tiene intenciones de lanzar el programa «E3» en el segmento de turbopropulsores
Embraer ha insinuado nuevamente su interés en un posible futuro desarrollo de turbopropulsores, pero insiste en que la gama E-Jet seguirá siendo su foco central, sea cual sea la producción que finalmente produzca como el programa «E3».
John Slattery, director ejecutivo de Embraer Aviación Comercial, dice que a medida que sus programas de desarrollo entran en servicio en el período hasta 2021, los recursos de ingeniería estarán disponibles, «queremos desplegarlo de manera óptima». Añade: «En algún momento pensaremos en lo que es el E3. Aún así, deseamos «imprimir» nuestro concepto del nuevo avión turboprop que deseamos denominar E-155. Muy seguido «volamos la imaginación» [Airgways ®].
Sin embargo, Embraer está observando todo el mercado regional con interés, dice. «Nos corresponde a nosotros como líder del mercado en el espacio regional para mirar qué oportunidades se pueden presentar en los años venideros. También es justo decir que la tecnología que se presenta al mercado en el espacio del turboprop de un motor y materiales anticuados». Slattery dice que «elogia a ATR por su desempeño en ventas, lo que le ha dado una «posición casi monopolística en el mercado» contra el Q400 de Bombardier. Embraer has again hinted at its interest in a potential future turboprop development, but insists the E-Jet range will remain its core focus, whatever it eventually produces as the program«E3».
John Slattery, chief executive of Embraer Commercial Aviation, says that as its current development programmes enter service in the period to 2021, engineering resources will become available «and we want to deploy that optimally». He adds: «At some point we will think about what the E3 is. It could be anything. I would like to do another platform to 
complement the E2.» Slattery says the E-Jet family will be its «core focus» in the future, but rules out a larger jet that would compete with Airbus and Boeing.
The advances of the program called «E3» (Stage 3) are preliminary and there are no data from primary sources of Embraer, whether the aircraft will incorporate turboprops in the wings or if they will be housed in the rear of the fuselage as the Argentine-Brazilian project CBA-123 Vector, to take advantage of experiences in designs, aerodynamic tests and flight behavior. However, Embraer is watching the entire regional market with interest, he says. «It is incumbent on us as market leader in the regional space to look at what opportunities may be presented in the coming years. It is also fair to say that the technology being presented to the market in the turboprop space is aged from a powerplant and materials perspective.» Slattery says he «commends» ATR for its sales performance, which has given it an «almost monopolistic position in the marketplace» against Bombardier’s Q400. «At some points it does cause me pause for thought,» he adds.
