Cenizas volcánicas del Nevado de Ruiz afectan la operación del Aeropuerto de Manizales, Colombia

El Aeropuerto La Nubia, en Manizales, Colombia, fue afectado en horas de la mañana de hoy por la presencia de ceniza volcánica en la pista y permaneció cerrado por varias horas, informó la Aeronáutica Civil (Aerocivil).

Inicialmente, la Aerocivil indicó que el Aeropuerto La Nubia estaba restringido por presencia de ceniza volcánica en la pista y aseguró que el personal estaba haciendo labores de limpieza. Horas posteriores, se informó que hacia las 09:00 hora local (14.00 GMT) el aeropuerto prestaba servicio con normalidad.

Las cenizas provienen del volcán Nevado del Ruiz, que forma parte del Parque Nacional Natural de los Nevados y tiene una altura de 5.364 metros sobre el nivel del mar. El rumbo del viento está enviando la ceniza volcánica al noroccidente del Ruiz.

Las frecuentes emisiones de ceniza que ha tenido durante las últimas horas el Volcán Nevado del Ruiz impidieron que el Aeropuerto La Nubia de Manizales entrara en operaciones hoy en la mañana modificando el itinerario de 600 viajeros están afectados producto de factores meteorológicos.

Alrededor de las 11:00 a.m. se sabrá si se podrá abrir el aeropuerto, pues durante la mañana, con funcionarios del cuerpo de Bomberos y otro personal harán labores de limpieza para retirar la ceniza y dejar la pista en óptimas condiciones para el despegue y aterrizaje de los aviones.

La administración del Aeropuerto La Nubia ha comunicado a las aerolíneas que la aeroestación opera con normalidad, después de que amaneció cerrado. La causa era la presencia de ceniza volcánica en la pista. Los primeros vuelos programados para aterrizar tuvieron que ser desviados hacia Pereira.

Recordemos que en varias ocasiones, desde el 2012 que el volcán ha estado activo y en nivel amarillo, ha originado cierres reiterativos, incluso hasta por varias semanas debido a la presencia de ceniza en la pista. Esta cumbre nevada causó en noviembre de 1985 la peor tragedia natural en la historia de Colombia con 20.000 muertos por cuenta flujos de lodo, tierra y escombros productos de la actividad volcánica.
