NASA collaborates with FAA update 737 MAX

The FAA requests the help of NASA in the revision of the safety update of the Boeing 737 MAX

562The Federal Aviation Administration Agency (FAA) announced a new Technical Advisory Board, whose recommendations «will directly inform the FAA’s decision regarding the safe return of the 737 MAX fleet». The Federal Aviation Administration is convening a panel of outside experts from the Air Force, NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and a Department of Transportation (DOT) center to review MCAS software corrections applied to the Boeing 737 MAX fourth-generation line.

The agency announced the new Technical Advisory Board in a statement on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. The panel’s recommendations «will directly inform the FAA’s decision regarding the safe return to service of the 737 MAX fleet», the agency said.

The plane was landed on March 10, 2019 after the second fatal accident in less than five months claimed a total of 346 lives. Boeing designed the airplane with a system that automatically forced the nose in some circumstances and the malfunction in both flights caused it to dive repeatedly until the pilots lost control. The manufacturer is changing the software to make it less likely to fail and to limit the distance it can drive. Boeing and the FAA have been working closely on the software solution, but the Chicago-based blueprint maker has not completed its work.

The new panel is separated from two existing revisions created by the FAA. The Volpe National Transportation Systems Center of DOT in Massachusetts is participating. A \ W
