Accidente aéreo en Nepal deja saldo 68 muertes

Un ATR 72-500 de la aerolínea regional nepalí Yeti Airlines que transportaba a 68 pasajeros y cuatro tripulantes se estrelló mientras se aproximaba al Aeropuerto Internacional de Pokhara/PKR, Nepal, en la mañana del 15 de Enero de 2023. La compañía fabricante franco-italiana ATR Aircraft dijo en un comunicado que sus “especialistas están totalmente comprometidos para apoyar tanto la investigación como al cliente”.

Los datos de CAPA/OAG muestran que Yeti Airlines es la tercera aerolínea más grande en términos de capacidad doméstica, que aumentó en el último año tras el regreso a la normalidad del turismo.

La filial de la aerolínea, Tara Air, sufrió un accidente fatal en Mayo de 2022. En ese accidente, un De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter se estrelló mientras volaba a nivel nacional entre Pokhara y Jomsom, matando a los 22 a bordo.

Antes del accidente, Yeti Airlines, creada en 1998, tenía una flota de seis ATR 72-500 (6), que opera en servicios domésticos. En un comunicado, la aerolínea dijo que había cancelado todos los vuelos programados para el 16 de Enero de 2023.

El Aeropuerto Internacional de Pokhara ha sido inaugurado el 1 de Enero de 2023.
