Airbus SE has marked the intention this Tuesday 21 May 2019 about the launch of the Airbus A321NEO XLR (Extra Long Range), a battle in the middle market and an imminent renewal of aircraft to counteract a possible new mid-range commercial jet known as Boeing 797 or New Mid-Market Aircraft (NMA), joining the ends of the market narrowbodies and widebories. The single-aisle Airbus A321NEO XLR would have an autonomy or range of up to 8,300 km (4,500 nm).
Boeing continues to promote the project behind the scenes, while mitigating public discussions, as it focuses on resolving the crisis on its 737 MAX. Boeing is studying whether to launch the Boeing 797, a plane in the range of average autonomy for 220-270 seats, at a time when the crisis for the Boeing 737 MAX is just coming out of the technical clouds, but that the legal problems will persist.

Airbus aims to defend that space with its own A330NEO at the top end and the A321NEO best-selling at the bottom, two models that have new engines in fuselages of older structures. «Both programs are so mature that they give Airbus price flexibility to address this segment in the middle of the market», said Sales Manager Christian Scherer.
Airbus aims to cover both sectors to replace the bestseller and leader of the mid-range Boeing 757. To counteract the blow to Boeing, the American builder says that its possible mid-market aircraft would be significantly more efficient than any of the Airbus models, but that the Airlines are under pressure to develop it at the right price.
Meanwhile, Airbus is weighing plans to push the A321NEO with a long-range version called A321XLR to get ahead of the Boeing 797. Chief executive Guillaume Faury hinted that confirmation could arrive next month at the Paris Air Show. Show 2019, and said that the A321LR was the longest single-aisle jet aircraft in the world.
JetBlue Airways and Aer Lingus have already signed up for the A321NEO LR for transatlantic flights between the East Coast of the United States and the United Kingdom, while Four Seasons selected the A321LR as their next-generation luxury charter plane. A \ W
