El constructor europeo Airbus lanzaría el A321XLR en Paris Air Show 2019
Airbus SE ha marcado la intención este Martes 21 Mayo 2019 acerca del lanzamiento del Airbus A321NEO XLR (Extra Long Range), una batalla en el mercado medio y una inminente renovación de aeronaves para contrarrestar un posible nuevo jet comercial de rango medio conocido como Boeing 797 o New Mid-Market Aircraft (NMA), uniendo los extremos de los mercado narrowbodies y widebories. El Airbus A321NEO XLR de un solo pasillo tendría una autonomía o alcance de hasta 8.300 km (4.500 nm).
Boeing continúa promoviendo el proyecto tras bambalinas, mientras atenúa las discusiones públicas, ya que se enfoca en resolver la crisis sobre su 737 MAX. Boeing está estudiando si lanza el Boeing 797, un avión en el rango de autonomía media para 220-270 asientos, en un momento donde la crisis por el Boeing 737 MAX recién está saliendo de los nubarrones técnicos, pero que persistirán los problemas legales.
Airbus pretende defender ese espacio con su propio A330NEO en el extremo superior y el A321NEO más vendido en la parte inferior, dos modelos que cuentan con nuevos motores en fuselajes de estructuras más antiguas. “Ambos programas son tan maduros que le dan a Airbus la flexibilidad en los precios para abordar este segmento en el medio del mercado”, dijo el Jefe de Ventas, Christian Scherer.
Airbus pretende cubrir ambos sectores para reemplazar el bestseller y líder del rango medio Boeing 757. Para contrarrestar el golpe a Boeing, el constructor americano dice que sus posibles aviones del mercado medio serían significativamente más eficientes que cualquiera de los modelos de Airbus, pero que las aerolíneas están bajo la presión de desarrollarlo al precio correcto.
Mientras tanto, Airbus está pesando planes para impulsar el A321NEO con una versión de largo alcance llamada A321XLR para adelantarse al Boeing 797. El presidente ejecutivo, Guillaume Faury, dio a entender que la confirmación podría llegar al próximo mes en el Salón Aeronáutico de París Air Show 2019, y dijo que el A321LR era el avión a reacción de un solo pasillo de mayor alcance del mundo.
JetBlue Airways y Aer Lingus ya se han inscrito en el A321NEO LR para vuelos transatlánticos entre la costa este de los Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido, mientras que Four Seasons seleccionó al A321LR como su avión chárter de lujo de próxima generación.

Airbus aims to defend that space with its own A330NEO at the top end and the A321NEO best-selling at the bottom, two models that have new engines in fuselages of older structures. “Both programs are so mature that they give Airbus price flexibility to address this segment in the middle of the market”, said Sales Manager Christian Scherer.
Airbus aims to cover both sectors to replace the bestseller and leader of the mid-range Boeing 757. Meanwhile, Airbus is weighing plans to push the A321NEO with a long-range version called A321XLR to get ahead of the Boeing 797.
