Durante la feria internacional de Farnborough, en el condado de Hampshire (sur de Inglaterra), una de las más importantes de Europa del sector aeroespacial, la compañía precisó que la nueva instalación tendrá un valor de unos 116 millones de euros.
En Lossiemouth se montarán los aviones militares P-8A Poseidon, y el Reino Unido será su base europea para el mantenimiento de alas fijas de aparatos de defensa, indicó Boeing.
Este compromiso de Boeing con el Reino Unido permitirá crear unos dos mil puestos de trabajos, el doble de los que ha generado esta empresa en los últimos cinco años, según la prensa.
Al conocerse el anuncio, el primer ministro británico, David Cameron, dijo que quiere que su país esté «en el primer plano de la industria global del sector aeroespacial, tanto civil como de defensa. Es por ello que estoy encantado de que podamos anunciar hoy esta iniciativa estratégica de largo plazo con Boeing».
Esta iniciativa «creará miles de empleos» y asegurará la inversión en el país, además de generar oportunidades para toda la cadena de suministros, añadió Cameron.
«Boeing es una de las compañías del sector aeroespacial más respetadas del mundo. Este compromiso de largo plazo muestra que el Reino Unido está abierto a los negocios y es atractivo para la inversión», añadió el primer ministro.
El presidente de Boeing, Dennis Muilenburg, señaló que su empresa está «comprometida» a apoyar «la agenda de prosperidad del Gobierno y compartimos los objetivos de mejorar el crecimiento económico» del país.
El anuncio se hizo en el primer día de esta importante feria, que se celebra esta semana y en la que las empresas del sector de la aviación buscan hacer lucrativos contratos.
El compromiso de Boeing se conoce semanas después de que el Reino Unido votara a favor de salir de la Unión Europea (UE) en el referéndum celebrado el pasado 23 de junio.
