Philippine Airlines ha recibido su primer Q400 de próxima generación en las instalaciones de Bombardier en Canadá

Este es el primero de cinco aviones que serán entregados a PAL Express este año, mientras que el resto llegará en los próximos meses, con lo que la flota actual de la aerolínea será de 81 a 88 a fin de año, dijo el presidente de PAL y director de operaciones Jaime Bautista.

Actualmente Philippine Express, subsidiaria de Philippine Airlines, utiliza cinco Bombardier DHC-8 402, con una edad promedia de entre 14-16 años. Estas aeronaves son una serie inicial del más moderno Bombardier 8-Q400, más conocido actualmente como el Q400.

Los Q400 se utilizarán en Cebu, Caticlan y Clark, cuyos aeropuertos aún tienen ranuras adicionales en comparación con el congestionado Aeropuerto Internacional Ninoy Aquino (NAIA), dijo. El nuevo avión Q400 también permitiría a Philippine Airlines aumentar su competitividad y establecer un nuevo estándar para turbopropulsores en la región.

El nuevo avión Q400 de PAL está configurado con 86 asientos en clases económicas y de clase económica premium con un tono de asiento de 29 y 33 pulgadas respectivamente. La aerolínea está recibiendo 12 Q400 desde ahora hasta 2019, de los cuales los cinco iniciales serán entregados este año.

El nuevo avión llegará a Manila el 26 de julio luego de un swing de cinco días, que es la ruta más segura posible de Canadá a Filipinas para un avión regional como el Q400, dijo el capitán Anthony Laperan, quien pilotará el avión a Manila junto con otros dos pilotos y tres mecánicos de vuelo. Está programado para entrar en servicio en dos semanas. La tripulación abandonó Canadá el viernes por la mañana desde el aeropuerto de Goose Bay. Su ruta les llevará a Islandia, París, Malta, Egipto, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, India, Tailandia y finalmente, Manila.
