Iberia, aerolínea española del grupo británico IAG, podría dejar de volar en España si no hay acuerdo con el Brexit, ya que para mantener la licencia debería tener sede en un país de la Unión Europea. Bruselas plantea extender los permisos pero solo para vuelos del próximo año entre Reino Unido y la UE.

Para evitar los efectos de una retirada sin acuerdo, Bruselas plantea extender de forma temporal ciertas licencias para el transporte aéreo. Sin embargo, los permisos excepcionales que otorgará la UE tras el Brexit a aerolíneas británicas, y tan solo durante un año, se limitarán a vuelos directos entre una ciudad del Reino Unido y un aeropuerto de la UE, y dependen de que Londres adopte medidas recíprocas.

La aerolínea española Iberia, que forma parte del grupo británico IAG, podría dejar de poder volar dentro de España si finalmente la salida del Reino Unido de la Unión Europea se produce sin acuerdo, según se desprende de los planes de la Comisión Europea para un Brexit sin pacto.

Los efectos post-Brexit no permitirán vuelos domésticos dentro de la UE o conexiones con escala en Europa a aerolíneas del Reino Unido como así a Iberia por tener sede social en el Reino Unido. Por tanto, Iberia, al formar parte de IAG, una compañía británica, podría no poder seguir volando dentro de España si la primera ministra británica, Theresa May, no logra que la Cámara de los Comunes en Londres apruebe el acuerdo de retirada pactado con Bruselas.

La Comisión Europea expresó que para mantener la validez de la licencia operativa y la libertad de proporcionar servicios aéreos dentro del club comunitario, la aerolínea debe estar controlada por una empresa con sede en la UE. «Si las condiciones no se cumplen, ya como consecuencia de la salida del Reino Unido de la Unión Europea, la licencia operativa no será válida nunca más», señaló Bruselas. Se ha notificado a las compañías esa situación desde la fase inicial del proceso de retirada y están en posición de tomar todas las medidas requeridas para seguir cumpliendo la legislación de la Unión Europea.

Desde Iberia, el Presidente Luis Gallego, ha asegurado en varias ocasiones, la última esta misma semana, que confían en un Brexit consensuado, aunque trabajan para tener un “plan B”, en el caso de que no se llegue a un acuerdo y mitigar su impacto. Las aerolíneas de IAG (Iberia, British Airways, Vueling, Aer Lingus, Level) se hicieron acreedoras de certificados de operación aérea (AOC) años atrás en países como España, Francia, Irlanda y, por supuesto, Reino Unido. Aun así, el foco está en la nacionalidad del control de la compañía, aunque IAG no se ha cansado de afirmar que tiene claramente establecida la cuestión sobre su asentamiento en España en sus estatutos desde 2011.
