Copa Airlines celebra 75º aniversarios

La aerolínea panameña Copa Airlines celebra su 75º aniversarios y presentará su primer Boeing 737-800 luciendo una imagen visual retro. Copa Airlines (Compañía Panameña de Aviación), fue fundada el 21 de Junio de 1944 con inversionistas del país y el apoyo de Pan American World Airways (PanAm). Inició dos años después sus operaciones el 15 de Agosto de 1947, con una flota C-47 Skytrain, versión militar del Douglas DC-3.
El nuevo avión con la librea “Billboard Style” que Copa Airlines utilizó en la flota de 737-200 durante el periodo de 1990—1999, tenía una línea central roja y amarilla y el nombre COPA centrado en la sección delantera del fuselaje en rojo y en la cola en blanco.
La aerolínea ha sido pionera en las conexiones entre los países de Latinoamérica y su hub, el Aeropuerto Tocumen de Panamá, iniciando en los años 80 con su primer jet Boeing 737-100 y posteriormente con una flota de Boeing 737-200, iniciando vuelos a Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Ciudad de México, Guayaquil, La Habana, Lima, Santiago de Chile y otras ciudades de la región.
Actualmente, gracias a la alianza desarrollada con Continental Airlines y posteriormente con United Airlines, Copa Airlines ha tenido una amplia expansión. Posee una flota de 86 aeronaves Boeing 737 Next Generation y Boeing 737 MAX que atienden a más de 80 destinos en América del Sur, Central, del Norte y el Caribe, así lo recoge el mismo medio. “La competencia ha sido agresiva, se ha dado mucho crecimiento de aerolíneas que recibieron fondos estatales, y hemos notado la apertura de más vuelos directos entre las grandes economías, evitando así centros de conexiones como el de Tocumen”, dijo el Presidente de Copa Airlines, Pedro Heilbron.
