Rusia presentó este miércoles el MC-21, su primer avión de medio recorrido, como apuesta para resucitar a su aeronáutica civil, un sector dominado por Airbus y Boeing.
El primer ministro ruso, Dimitri Medvedev, celebró «un acontecimiento esperado desde hace mucho tiempo por la aviación civil, por el sector de la construcción aeronáutica y por todo el país».
El prototipo, azul y blanco, se exhibió en un hangar del fabricante Irkut, en la ciudad siberiana de Irkutsk, durante una ceremonia transmitida por la televisión estatal.
El MC-21, que incluye un 30% de piezas fabricadas en el extranjero, ofrece una capacidad de transporte de entre 150 y 211 pasajeros. Remplazará al anticuado Tupolev Tu-204 de la era soviética.
Los primeros vuelos de prueba están previstos para fines de este año o principios de 2017, y las primeras entregas en 2018.

El nuevo aparato se presenta cinco años después de la puesta en servicio del avión regional Superjet, que buscaba encarnar el renacimiento de la aviación civil rusa, desmantelada después de la desaparición de la URSS.
Pero el despegue del Superjet quedó asociado a múltiples problemas –técnicos y financieros del fabricante Sukhoi- además de un accidente ocurrido en Indonesia en 2012, que dejó 45 muertos.
Su lista de clientes se limitó durante varios años a la compañía nacional rusa Aeroflot y a la mexicana Interjet, antes de obtener este año su primer pedido europeo, de la aerolínea irlandesa CityJet.
Irkut asegura que tiene encargos de 175 MC-21 por parte de Aeroflot y de grupos estatales rusos, que se comprometieron a apoyar el proyecto con arrendamientos de aparatos con opciones de compra.
