Norwegian Air une fuerzas con JetBlue para expandir la red transatlántica

JetBlue Airways Corp., con sede en Estados Unidos ha acordado asociarse con Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA de Noruega (Norwegian Air UK Ltd) en un intento por permitir que los pasajeros viajen entre Europa y Estados Unidos en cualquiera de los aviones de la compañía con una sola reserva. A través de esta asociación, JetBlue conectará su red de vuelos de alrededor de 100 ciudades estadounidenses con la red de Norwegian en Boston, Nueva York y Fort Lauderdale desde la cual la aerolínea puede viajar a más de 20 destinos europeos. Norwegian también se ha asociado con easyJet, con sede en London/Gatwick, pero hasta ahora carecía de una asociación en los Estados Unidos.

US-based JetBlue Airways Corp. has agreed to partner with Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA of Norway (Norwegian Air UK Ltd) in an attempt to allow passengers to travel between Europe and the United States on any of the company’s planes with a single reservation. Through this partnership, JetBlue will connect its network of flights from around 100 US cities to Norwegian’s network in Boston, New York and Fort Lauderdale from which the airline can travel to more than 20 European destinations. Norwegian has also partnered with EasyJet, based in London/Gatwick, but until now it lacked a partnership in the United States.

According to Bernstein analyst, David Vernon, this association could help both airlines increase the average fares they earn, as well as passenger traffic, as transatlantic services extend to large U.S. cities. Vernon added that this agreement is a good opportunity for Norwegian to take advantage of profitable traffic. Although Norwegian operators and other profitable long-distance operators have challenged the main players on their intercontinental routes, the routes that connect passengers to smaller cities have so far been out of reach.

Transatlantic benefits

According to the two firms, customers could connect flights of both airlines through websites combining the best of their expansive and complementary network. JetBlue added that the company expects to enter the market for low-cost transatlantic travel.

The airlines plan to launch the agreement in early summer 2020, with flights that can be booked early next year.
