The People’s Republic of China, the world’s most populous nation, is a key market for Airbus and US rival Boeing, and both have worked to increase their presence there. The orders come at a time of growing political tensions between the United States and China, while for the American builder it has been a clear defeat. Although travel in the country remains subdued amid pandemic-related restrictions, aircraft orders must be placed years in advance given the limited capacity of manufacturers.

China’s largest airline groups are piling up commercial aircraft orders from major factories of Airbus, Boeing and COMAC. China Southern’s new order will be delivered between 2024 to 2027, according to a Stock Exchange presentation on Friday 07/01. Deliveries to Air China will span from 2023 to 2027 and those to Shenzhen Airlines from 2024 to 2026.
