Eurowings Europa adquiere nacionalidad maltesa
Eurowings Europe made in Malta

Eurowings Europe acquires Maltese nationality
Eurowings Europe, an Austrian airline, becomes a Maltese national. This week he completed his registration with the authorities of the small Mediterranean island, which has granted him the Air Operator Certificate (AOC). In this way twenty aircraft of the company have come to display the Maltese flag. Likewise, its cabin staff are now taxed as Maltese, although the company does not intend to change its operations plan, which is focused on Germany and Austria. The Lufthansa Group subsidiary explained at the time that the intention is to prevent staff from having tax withholdings that would complicate economic results.
Aaron Farrugia, Minister for Transport of Malta, welcomed the airline, whose aircraft will now display the 9H registration, as has also been the case for some time with part of the Ryanair fleet under the name of Malta Air which is a joint venture between Ryanair and the Government of Malta. The Republic of Malta, which has just a dozen aircraft in its Air Malta airline, has 800 commercial aircraft registered and flying in Europe. Aaron Farrugia added that «Malta has a unique and uncontested reputation as a preferred jurisdiction for aviation».
Eurowings claims that this change will give it a boost in its career to grow. The one hundred percent subsidiary of Lufthansa Group explained at the time that the intention is to prevent the staff from having tax withholdings that would affect the company’s coffers due to the lack of tax benefits. Eurowings has another structural problem: although it is a single brand, it operates with several companies, each with its own working conditions. The staff affected by this change is only that of Eurowings Europe, but not the German companies, which maintain their traditional regime.
