La República de Costa Rica tendrá un nuevo aeropuerto internacional, y se estudiará la ubicación de las pistas, terminales e infraestructura en general, como así posibles fuentes de financiamiento
La firma británica Mott MacDonald elaborará en el plazo de un año un estudio de emplazamiento, diseño básico y plan maestro de lo que será el nuevo aeropuerto metropolitano internacional en Costa Rica, anunció el Gobierno.
Los estudios determinarán el diseño conceptual del aeropuerto en cuanto a la ubicación de las pistas, terminales e infraestructura en general, así como de un inventario en la comunidad financiera internacional de posibles fuentes de financiación para su construcción.
Además, los estudios contendrán análisis en materia de aeronáutica y asuntos técnicos, operacionales, constructivos, financieros, sociales, meteorológicos y ambientales.
Una vez completado este proceso, el Estado costarricense tendrá en su poder el diseño básico del nuevo aeropuerto, la zona exacta que se debe expropiar y los costos estimados, para luego abrir un proceso de licitación del diseño final y la construcción.
El nuevo aeropuerto metropolitano servirá para aumentar la llegada de líneas aéreas y aviones de cuerpo ancho, así como para descongestionar el Juan Santamaría, el más importante del país ubicado a 17 kilómetros al oeste de la capital San José, cuyo espacio de crecimiento es casi nulo.
El otro aeropuerto internacional de Costa Rica es el Daniel Oduber, situado en la ciudad de Liberia, provincia de Guanacaste, cerca de la costa del Pacífico.
El presidente de Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solís, y su ministro de Obras Públicas y Transportes, Carlos Villalta, firmaron el contrato con la empresa durante un acto oficial en la localidad de Orotina, provincia de Alajuela, unos 50 kilómetros al suroeste de San José, donde se prevé que se ubicará la terminal aérea.
‘Costa Rica tiene la capacidad de construir grandes proyectos y esta administración tiene la voluntad de romper el inmovilismo y paralización que teníamos en materia de obras públicas fundamentales’, declaró Solís.
El mandatario subrayó la importancia de contar con estudios ‘serios, técnicos y transparentes’ para llegar a contar con un aeropuerto «moderno y estratégico que nos debe seguir conectando con en el mundo».
Según el Gobierno, la empresa británica cuenta con amplia experiencia en la materia y entre sus antecedentes citó el desarrollo de la ampliación del aeropuerto de Heathrow, en Londres; su trabajo como asesor técnico de los bancos que financian el nuevo aeropuerto de Estambul, Turquía. ᴀᴡ
