A poco de cumplirse 20 aniversarios atentados en Estados Unidos
La Oficina de Inteligencia de la Administración Federal de Aviación (FAA) advirtió a las aerolíneas en una circular del 16 de Agosto de 2021 bajo la carátula de “Armas disfrazadas»/IN-2001-12 que los terroristas podrían usar armas modificadas y objetos para secuestrar un avión. La circular no tuvo un impacto real en la seguridad del aeropuerto porque los secuestradores del 11 de Septiembre de 2001 (11-S) parecen haber usado solo cuchillos y navajas, que estaba permitido llevar en ese momento. Se necesitaban cuchillos y navajas: como dejó en claro el testimonio de los asistentes de vuelo y los pasajeros en las llamadas telefónicas de los aviones condenados, los asistentes de vuelo y los pasajeros que resistieron en Primera Clase fueron apuñalados y cortados cuando la tripulación del avión se vio abrumada.

El acto con el que la ciudad de Nueva York recordará este año a los muertos y heridos por el ataque del 11 de Septiembre del 2001 al World Trade Center (Torres Gemelas) contará con la asistencia, únicamente, de familiares de los caídos, como medida para evitar contagios de Covid-19. Como es habitual, la reunión será en el monumento ubicado en el World Trade Center, al sur de la Isla de Manhattan, donde están grabados en mármol los nombres de las casi 3.000 personas que murieron en el derrumbe de las Torres Gemelas, pero esta vez no podrán participar socorristas, sobrevivientes ni autoridades.
En años anteriores, en la recordación del peor atentado en la historia en suelo estadounidense estuvieron los presidentes George W. Bush y Barack Obama, además de senadores, gobernadores y otros dignatarios estadounidenses. Miles de personas, además, fueron en los últimos años a la zona de Ground Zero para rendir homenaje a los fallecidos, la mayoría de ellos policías, bomberos y rescatistas, además de los empleados que se encontraban en sus oficinas en aquella jornada fatídica.
Este año, el Museo y Memorial del 11-S envió las habituales invitaciones a los familiares de las víctimas pero, según la agencia de noticias ANSA, la convocatoria advierte que “la ceremonia será exclusivamente para los familiares del 11-S”. Las tarjetas servirán como «la credencial para la entrada a la ceremonia en la plaza conmemorativa”, se lee en las cartas, y quienes asistan serán agrupados cerca de las dos fuentes cuadradas de mármol donde se levantaban las torres más altas de Manhattan. La vocera del memorial, Lee Cochran, explicó que “solo los miembros de la familia están invitados, aunque ellos pueden llevar tantos invitados adicionales de miembros de la familia como deseen”.
La tradición de reunirse y leer los nombres de las víctimas comenzó al año siguiente del atentado, el 11 de Septiembre de 2002, cuando autoridades y familiares se reunieron en la Zona Cero, donde por entonces había todavía escombros. Tras veinte años de aquel atentado inhumano a los valores como sociedad, resuenan en nuestros oídos los latidos de una tragedia que nos alcanza hasta nuestros días, donde la aviación comercial continúa aprendiendo de los errores.

Ceremony 20 anniversaries of 9/11
