Daa International nombrado operador Aeropuerto del Mar Rojo

La Compañía de Desarrollo del Mar Rojo (TRSDC) ha firmado un acuerdo de SAR 1.000 millones de Saudi Arabian Riyal para nombrar a Daa International como operador del próximo Aeropuerto Internacional del Mar Rojo/RSI en Arabia Saudita. TRSDC y Daa también están trabajando con el Programa de Acreditación de Carbono Aeroportuario de ACI Europe para asegurar el estándar actual más alto Nivel 4+, lo que convertiría a RSI en el primer aeropuerto nuevo del mundo en asegurar este estándar antes de que comiencen sus operaciones. El aeropuerto fue registrado con éxito en la Asociación Internacional de Transporte Aéreo (IATA), y recientemente completó los aterrizajes y despegues de prueba en la pista principal de 3,7 km. RSI será el primer y único aeropuerto de la región con una pista dedicada para hidroaviones y aeródromos acuáticos, regulada por un nuevo conjunto de directrices de seguridad de la Autoridad General de Aviación Civil de Arabia Saudita. ZeroAvia dijo en Julio 2022 que explorará la posibilidad de convertir hidroaviones Cessna Caravan utilizando su tecnología de propulsión eléctrica de hidrógeno. TRSDC and Daa are also working with the ACI Europe Airport Carbon Accreditation Program to secure the current highest Level 4+ standard, which would make RSI the first new airport in the world to secure this standard before operations begin. The airport was successfully registered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and recently completed trial landings and takeoffs on the 3.7 km main runway. RSI will be the first and only airport in the region with a dedicated runway for seaplanes and water aerodromes, regulated by a new set of safety guidelines from the Saudi General Civil Aviation Authority. In addition, it will also service hydrogen-powered seaplane variants, supplied by hydrogen-electric aviation firm ZeroAvia, as well as electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) and electric short takeoff and landing (eSTOL) technology.

ZeroAvia said in July 2022 that it will explore the possibility of converting Cessna Caravan seaplanes using its hydrogen electric propulsion technology. The 600 kW system, intended for certification to support commercial operations of 9- to 19-seat aircraft, including the Cessna Caravan, will be capable of flying 300 nautical miles beginning in 2024. The company is also working on a powertrain for 40-80 seats with a range of up to 1,000nm to enter the market in 2026.
