Sanford-bound Allegiant Air flight makes emergency landing in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.· Allegiant Air confirmed that Flight 749 from South Bend, Indiana, to Orlando-Sanford International Airport had to make an emergency landing in Jacksonville Wednesday afternoon after reports of an electrical odor in the cabin.
In a statement, Allegiant Air said, “Initial crew reports indicate that there was no visible smoke in the cabin.”
An evacuation of the plane wasn’t necessary. Passengers told they smelled something burning while flying.
Fire crews met the airplane when it landed in Jacksonville. It caused a more than five-hour delay, the plane eventually landing in Sanford shortly after 6:30 p.m.
News has reported on a series of emergency landings involving Allegiant Air since last year. Some were caused by engine problems, smoke in the cabin and blown-out tires.
In April, also discovered that the FAA moved up a safety evaluation of Allegiant Air by two years due to incidents including aborted takeoffs and low-fuel landings.
It’s an evaluation that is meant to determine if the airline is operating at the highest possible degree of safety. A\W
