La
compañía griega Aegean Airlines, miembro de la Star Alliance, ha obtuvido el premio a la mejor aerolínea regional de Europa en el marco de los premios Skytrax World Airline 2016.
En los premios Skytrax participaron más de 19,2 millones de pasajeros de 104 diferentes nacionalidades que han viajado entre el mes de agosto de 2015 y el de mayo de este 2016, gratificante y reconociendo en esta forma, la alta calidad de los servicios prestados por la empresa.
Aegean Airlines fue fundada como Aegean Aviation en 1987. Fue originalmente un operador aéreo VIP y de negocios, especializada en servicios ejecutivos y de ambulancia aérea. El 17 de febrero de 1992, se convirtió en la primera aerolínea en recibir la licencia griega para operadores aéreos.
Tras un acuerdo en marzo de 2001 para fusionarse con Cronus Airlines, operó durante un tiempo como Aegean Cronus Airlines hasta concretarse la integración en forma completa.
En el 2005 la aerolínea anunció que realizó un pedido de 8 Airbus A320 por un valor total de 420 millones de USD, con opción a otras 12 aeronaves de la familia del A320 (A318/A319/A320/A321), los cuales gradualmente reemplazaron los Boeing 737-300/400. En julio de 2006 Aegean Airlines efectivizó tres opciones, ordenando aeronaves Airbus A320; tras esta operación, un total de 14 aeronaves están pedidas (incluyendo 3 que van a ser alquiladas por ILFC) con opción a 9 adicionales. Aegean Airlines anunció un pedido por otras 5, incrementando el pedido total a 19 y con opción a 10.
El primer Airbus A320 fue recibido el 22 de febrero de 2007. Otros dos A320 fueron recibidos en marzo de 2007, mientras que 8 A320 y 2 A321 fueron recibidos durante el 2008 y 6 más se recibirán en el período 2009/2010. La inversión total supera los 800 millones de USD.
En el momento de recibir el premio a la mejor aerolínea regional de Europa, Dimitris Georgiannis, CEO de Aegean, no ocultó su satisfacción por recibir este premio por sexto año consecutivo.

The Greek carrier Aegean Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance, has obtuvido the award for best regional airline in Europe under Skytrax World Airline Awards 2016.
In the Skytrax awards involving more than 19.2 million passengers from 104 different nationalities who have traveled between August 2015 and May this 2016, rewarding and recognizing in this way, the high quality of the services provided by the company.
Aegean Airlines was founded as Aegean Aviation in 1987. It was originally an air operator VIP and business, specializing in executive and air ambulance services. On February 17, 1992, it became the first airline to receive the Greek license to aircraft operators.
Following an agreement in March 2001 to merge with Cronus Airlines, it operated for a while as Aegean Cronus Airlines until integration materialize fully.
