Mobile, Alabama · About a year and a half after the delivery of its first aircraft, the installation of Airbus Mobile has received the parts that will become its # 50 aircraft. At the end of this year, Airbus executives expect to see the Final Assembly Line in Mobile achieve a target rate of four airplanes per month.

The Airbus Mobile Aeroplex final assembly line at Brookley receives the major components of Europe for every jet it builds, including the fuselage, wings and vertical stabilizer. Parts delivered from abroad include front and rear fuselage sections, wings and tail assembly. The specialized shipping process takes them from Hamburg, Germany, to the coast of Alabama, United States.

The process has gradually accelerated as the FAL reaches the speed towards a goal of delivering four airplanes per month. It is supposed to have reached that goal later this year, and officials have said it is under way.

“The arrival of the 50th ship is just in time for a schedule that was created more than two years ago,” said Daryl Taylor, Vice President and General Manager of the Airbus Manufacturing Factory in the United States. “The production team here at Mobile, and our Airbus colleagues around the world, have continued to work together to ensure we keep our promises to our customers and I am proud of what we have achieved together.”

Airbus has currently delivered 37 aircraft from its Mobile plant to four customers: American Airlines, Spirit Airlines, JetBlue Airways and Delta Air Lines. Almost all of them have been the model A321; according to information published by Airbus, the average list price for an Airbus A321 is US $ 116 million.
