Las aerolíneas retornarán al Aeropuerto Internacional Sint Maarten en octubre 2017

El paso del Huracán Irma ha arruinado no solo Sint Maarten, entre otras islas del Caribe. El gobierno y las autoridades aeroportuarias están ultimando detalles para reabrir el Aeropuerto Internacional Princess Juliana (SXM) en la isla de Sint Maarten que está programado para operaciones a finales de este mes.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines anunció que reanudará el servicio a la isla el 29 de octubre, pero la aerolínea reducirá el número de vuelos de cuatro a la semana a sólo dos a la semana. Funcionarios de KLM dijeron que la aerolínea ya no volará directamente a Sint Maarten, sino que operará vuelos de escala a Curazao que permitirán al transportista continuar sirviendo a la isla.

«Durante años, KLM ha tenido estrechos vínculos con Saint Maarten. Bajo las circunstancias actuales, ciertamente no estamos a punto de dejar a la gente en esa isla en la estacada», dijo el gerente general de KLM, Pieter Elbers. «A partir del 29 de octubre, KLM reanudará sus vuelos a Sint Maarten, deteniéndose en Curacao por el camino. Lo que es más, planeamos aumentar nuestra capacidad a Curacao, Bonaire y Aruba para ofrecer a nuestros clientes una mayor oportunidad de volar al Caribe». Air France reanudará los vuelos a la isla en las próximas semanas.

Además, KLM anunció que aumentaría el número de vuelos a Curazao, con un total de tres vuelos adicionales por semana añadido a los siete vuelos semanales existentes programados para la isla. Habrá dos vuelos adicionales a Curazao de diciembre a febrero de 2018, con lo que el total a 12 vuelos por semana entre Amsterdam y Curazao durante ese período. KLM también agregará más vuelos entre Amsterdam, Bonaire y Aruba, con un vuelo adicional durante la temporada de invierno, con lo que el número de siete a la semana.

The passage of Hurricane Irma has ruined not only Sint Maarten, among other Caribbean islands. The government and airport authorities are finalizing details to reopen Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) on the island of Sint Maarten that is scheduled for operations later this month.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced that it will resume service to the island on October 29, but the airline will reduce the number of flights from four a week to only two a week. KLM officials said the airline will no longer fly directly to Sint Maarten, but will operate scheduled flights to Curacao that will allow the carrier to continue serving the island.

«For years, KLM has had close ties to St. Maarten. Under current circumstances, we certainly are not about to leave people on that island in the lurch,» KLM CEO Pieter Elbers said. «From October 29, KLM will resume its flights to Sint Maarten, stopping at Curacao on the way. What’s more, we plan to increase our capacity to Curacao, Bonaire and Aruba to offer our customers a greater opportunity to fly to the Caribbean». Air France will resume flights to the island in the coming weeks.

In addition, KLM announced that it would increase the number of flights to Curacao, with a total of three additional flights per week added to the seven scheduled weekly flights to the island. There will be two additional flights to Curacao from December to February 2018, bringing the total to 12 flights per week between Amsterdam and Curacao during that period. KLM will also add more flights between Amsterdam, Bonaire and Aruba, with an additional flight during the winter season, bringing the number seven a week. A \ W
