La aerolínea Niki cesa sus operaciones después de que Lufthansa renunciara a su adquisición
La aerolínea austríaca Niki, ha anunciado que a partir de este 14 de diciembre ha cesado sus operaciones tras el quiebre de la compañía. Niki informa a los pasajeros que hayan comprado billetes a través de un tour operador que deberán contactarse para las compensaciones. Esta aerolínea conectaba Alemania, Austria y Suiza con Canarias, aparte de otros destinos turísticos del Mediterráneo y Portugal.
El acuerdo para la compra por parte de Lufthansa fracasó el miércoles tras la resistencia de la Comisión Europea. El Ministro de Transporte de Austria advirtió que hasta 10.000 pasajeros podrían verse afectados, aunque varias aerolíneas han ofrecido llevar a casa a los viajeros varados por una pequeña tarifa.
La compañía fue fundada en 2003 por el empresario aeronáutico y excampeón mundial de Fórmula 1 Niki Lauda y era propiedad de Air Berlin, que se declaró insolvente a mediados de agosto pasado, anunció este miércoles que tras la decisión del grupo alemán Lufthansa de no adquirirla, dejará de volar a partir de este jueves. Precisamente, según la agencia austriaca de noticias APA, el propio Lauda está considerando volver a hacerse cargo de la aerolínea.
La aerolínea señala en un comunicado en su web que hay varias compañías áreas que están estudiando cómo cooperar para repatriar a todos los pasajeros que vayan a verse afectados por el cese de actividades de NIKI. A cambio de una pequeña tasa los pasajeros con destino Alemania, Austria y Suiza podrán viajar en vuelos de aerolíneas de esos países, agrega el comunicado, que solo especifica que la alemana TUIfly no participa en esta solución.
La propia compañía austriaca ha solicitado en un tribunal en Berlín abrir un procedimiento de insolvencia. Lufthansa quiso hacerse con NIKI y sus mil empleados pero anunció que renuncia a comprar la aerolínea para poder adquirir otras áreas de negocios de Air Berlin.
Según un comunicado, Lufthansa ofreció amplias concesiones en la primera fase de la evaluación de la adquisición al renunciar a derechos de despegues y aterrizajes (“slots”), pero “la CE considera que estas concesiones son insuficientes y ha indicado claramente que no va a aprobar la adquisición de NIKI y su integración en Eurowings”, añadió Lufthansa.
Lufthansa, que quiere adquirir la aerolínea de vuelos regionales Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (LGW), ha hecho más concesiones y renuncia a la compra de NIKI. Lufthansa ha informado a Air Berlin y a su administrador de que quiere cerrar la transacción excluyendo la adquisición de NIKI y que para hacerse con LGW renuncia a numerosos slots.
