La Asociación Internacional del Transporte Aéreo (IATA) asigna Madrid como centro operativo mundial
La Asociación Internacional del Transporte Aéreo (IATA) establecerá en Madrid su mayor centro de operaciones a nivel mundial. Ha elegido a España como centro del transporte aéreo internacional.

La nueva sede en Madrid empleará a 330 personas de 60 nacionalidades, seleccionada conjuntamente con otras ciudades como Singapur, Montreal y Pekín. «Los altos niveles de eficiencia han sido uno de los motivos por los que la IATA ha escogido a Madrid», ha informado el organismoregulador IATA. La nueva oficina cuenta con expertos en materia de aeropuertos, cargo, seguridad aérea, operaciones de vuelos y finanzas, entre otros. El vicepresidente regional para Europa de IATA, Rafael Schvartzman, ha asegurado esta mañana que «la apuesta por Madrid va más allá de designarla como centro de operaciones. Estamos convencidos de que, con decisiones como esta, la ciudad se convertirá en una de las capitales más importantes en materia de transporte aéreo del mundo».
IATA gestionará desde Madrid las operaciones aéreas de unas 280 aerolíneas que forman parte de IATA y 50.000 agencias de viaje y agentes de carga en las regiones de las Américas, Europa, África, Oriente Medio y parte de Asia. En total, la oficina en España gestionará 300 millones de billetes aéreos anualmente. En 2008, Madrid fue seleccionada para albergar la oficina regional para Europa y desde entonces su crecimiento ha sido exponencial. Hace un año, ya contaba con 160 empleados de 41 nacionalidades. A día de hoy alcanza la cifra de 260 trabajadores, provenientes de 58 países.
