American Airlines se mueve para llenar el vacío de United Airlines

American Airlines está agregando vuelos en dos rutas a Cleveland que United Airlines está recortando en 2Q2020. La aerolínea ha comunicado este Viernes 07/02 que incorporará un cuarto vuelo diario entre el Aeropuerto Internacional Cleveland Hopkins (CLE) y el Washington Reagan National (DCA) el 4 Junio 2020. El mismo día, American cambiará dos de sus tres vuelos nacionales de Washington existentes, así como sus cuatro vuelos diarios LaGuardia (LGA) de Nueva York con aeronaves Bombardier CRJ-700 o Embraer E175, ambos tienen cabinas de Business Class/Economy Class.

Las adiciones se producen apenas unas semanas después de que United Airlines anunciara que finalizaría el servicio a LaGuardia de Nueva York y al Washington National desde Cleveland el 29 Marzo 2020. Con la salida de United de las rutas de LaGuardia y Washington National, American Airlines y Delta Air Lines son las únicas aerolíneas que vuelan entre Cleveland y LaGuardia, y American es la única aerolínea que vuela entre la ciudad del norte de Ohio y Washington National. Los recortes son los últimos en la reducción continua de la aerolínea con sede en Chicago del antiguo centro de Continental Airlines en Hopkins, donde solo servirá a sus centros y cuatro ciudades en Florida después de Marzo 2020.

La capacidad adicional del Aeropuerto Nacional Washington se produce un año antes del crecimiento planeado de American en el Washington Reagan National. American Airlines is adding flights on two routes to Cleveland that United Airlines is cutting in 2Q2020. The airline has announced this Friday 07/02 that it will incorporate a fourth daily flight between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and Washington Reagan National (DCA) on June 4, 2020. On the same day, American will change two of its three national flights Existing Washington, as well as it’s four daily New York LaGuardia (LGA) flights with Bombardier CRJ-700 or Embraer E175 aircraft, both have Business Class/Economy Class cabins.

The additions occur just a few weeks after United Airlines announced that it would end the service to LaGuardia in New York and Washington National from Cleveland on March 29, 2020. With United’s departure from the LaGuardia and Washington National, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines are the only airlines that fly between Cleveland and LaGuardia, and American is the only airline that flies between the city of northern Ohio and Washington National. The cuts are the latest in the continuous reduction of the Chicago-based airline from the former Continental Airlines center in Hopkins, where it will only serve its centers and four cities in Florida after March 2020.

Washington National Airport

The additional capacity of the Washington National Airport occurs one year before the planned growth of American in the Washington Reagan National. In 2021, when a new 14-door regional center opens at the airport, the airline plans to replace many of the 50-seat planes that fly to the Washington National with larger models of 65 or 76 seats, such as the CRJ-700 and the E175. This will allow American to grow in what it considers one of its most profitable centers while remaining within the restrictions of slots that limit it from adding new flights. American plans to increase the system capacity by 4-5% year-over-year in 2020, and the final number will depend on when the Boeing 737 MAX returns to service. Much of this year’s growth will be in Charlotte (CLT), where the airline presented its “Charlotte 700 plus” program in December 2019.
