Gobierno español garantizará la viabilidad de Air Europa
El Gobierno español no parece estar dispuesto a dejar caer a Air Europa, compañía en la que ha invertido un total de € 615 millones de Euros mediante un préstamo avalado por el ICO por importe de € 140 millones y un rescate de € 475 millones aprobado por la Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI). La Ministra de Industria, Comercio y Turismo, Reyes Maroto afirma que “el Gobierno garantiza la viabilidad de Air Europa porque es estratégica y las opciones a tomar para ello son muy diversas, sea manteniendo la participación de la SEPI o teniendo un aliado como es Iberia. Contamos con dos aerolíneas españolas internacionales y hay que buscar esa integración interna y con mirada hacia el extranjero”.
Las opciones que ha cobrado más fuerza en las últimas semanas es que Iberia y el Gobierno español se repartan el 80% de las acciones de Air Europa, dejando el 20% restante en poder de la familia Hidalgo. No obstante, de momento no hay nada firmado y las conversaciones siguen en marcha, entrando en una fase crucial. La ministra también defiende la concesión de la ayuda estatal de 475 millones. “El Gobierno tomó en su momento una decisión muy acertada porque se trata de una aerolínea estratégica, de ahí la ayuda que recibió del SEPI. Desde el primer momento la consideramos estratégica para el país, la conectividad y para el destino España”, sentencia.

The Spanish Government does not seem willing to let Air Europa fall, a company in which it has invested a total of €615 million Euros through an ICO-backed loan of €140 million and a rescue of €475 million approved by the the State Company of Industrial Holdings (SEPI). The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, affirms that “the Government guarantees the viability of Air Europa because it is strategic and the options to be taken for this are very diverse, whether it is maintaining the participation of SEPI or having an ally such as Iberia. We have two international Spanish airlines, and we must look for that internal integration and with a view to foreign countries”.
The options that have gained more strength in recent weeks is that Iberia and the Spanish Government share 80% of the shares of Air Europa, leaving the remaining 20% in the hands of the Hidalgo family. However, at the moment nothing has been signed and the talks are still going on, entering a crucial phase. The minister also defends the granting of state aid of 475 million. “The Government made a very wise decision at the time because it is a strategic airline, hence the help it received from SEPI. From the first moment we considered it strategic for the country, connectivity and for the destination of Spain”, she says.
